Welcome everyone to the Russian Meeting Place discussion forum.

Our forums highlight a variety of topics, from Russian culture to Russian marriage and relationships to fiance issues and other subjects.

There is also a Russian language section of the forum where Russian speakers can communicate in their native language (or non-native speakers of Russian can try their hand at expressing themselves in the Russian language). We have added Spanish, German, French, and Italian sections to the forum.

Before you can post or reply to a message, you need to register on the main page of the forum.

Message Board Guidelines and Rules (if you have any questions about these guidelines, please feel free to ask):

1) We strive for, in our forums, to have the freedom to fully and completely express our views, while at the same time treating others with respect. Through this kind of respect for others in our forum, we hope that we can all share different views and create a rich and stimulating environment for everyone.

2) The administrators of the forum respectfully ask forum users not to "flame" or be disrespectful to others. (This forum is a flame-free zone. ) No personal attacks are allowed in this forum, because it creates an unpleasant atmosphere here, and is counterproductive to an open and comfortable forum environment. Please also read our guidelines for "forum etiquette" here.

3) If you have a personal disagreement with someone in the forum, please discuss your personal disagreements and resolution of your conflicts in private messages ("PM"s) rather than expressing your personal conflict on the public forum.

4) Please do not curse in the forum... I do not want to limit freedom of speech, and would like a free flow of differing and respectful ideas, but I feel that it creates a more positive and welcoming atmosphere for everyone and for the free expression of ideas if we can express our thoughts, whatever they may be, in an articulate way without cursing. (To help with this end, some curse words have been added to an exclusion list in the forum software and will be automatically replaced with star symbols ("*") in posted messages.

5) I think that it is obvious, but... please do not post nude photos, or anything that would not be appropriate for this forum. If you have questions regarding this, please ask...

6) Please do not advertise any services or other websites on this forum without the permission of the administrator. It is o.k. to post helpful links about things like calling cards, visa services, immigration info, etc., in order to help and serve our forum members and guests. But we ask that advertisers and business owners please do not post links for your businesses or services here without asking the forum administrators first. We have a website links page (which is accessible through the main page of the website), where you can submit (and exchange) a link to us for your website. We want to keep our forums advertisement free in order to provide a more pleasant commercial-free environment for our guests and forum members. 7) We have a special request regarding writing messages about other forums or Russian personals. So as to respect Lena's and my work and efforts in developing these particular areas of the website, we respectfully and kindly ask that you do not post links about other forums or Russian personals in this forum. We just feel that it works against our efforts and the many hours that we spend in developing the forum and the Russian personals. Thank you for your understanding and courtesy regarding this.

Users who post messages in the discussion forum do so with the understanding and acceptance that the forum administrators have the right to edit or delete the post at their discretion. Also, users of this forum who make a post agree that once a post is placed in the forum, that there is a 24 hour period that it can be deleted or modified, and that the post may not be deleted by the user after that time without permission of the forum administrators. Any posts in the forum become copyrighted by the Russian Meeting Place. We have this policy because other posters have posted their messages based upon the information of other posts of a thread, and if a user removes his or her posts within a thread, that it can do damage to the threads and continuity of the discussion forum and be unfair to other contributors to the forum.

9) Please follow and respect the leadership of the forum moderators. Lena and I have personally selected each one of them, and we trust their judgement in making sure that threads follow the forum guidelines. Please contact Lena or me if you have a disagreement with any of the moderators about their leadership.

Hello Everyone,

We welcome you to the Russian Meeting Place Discussion Forum, and welcome everyone's participation and contributions here.

Our intention with this forum is to provide a positive community whereby everyone has a chance to learn and share their experiences about Russia and Russian-Western relationships.

So that we can create and maintain the best environment possible here, here are some basic social guidelines that we ask that you please follow as to how to treat and respect others...

We certainly don't want to "police" anyone or our discussions. Rather, we want to enable and encourage the free-flow of ideas and conversations that at the same time respect others and help maintain and foster a good beneficial feeling of community here.

Here are the guidelines that we ask that you follow:

1) It is obviously o.k. to disagree with someone and express differing views. Please express your thoughts freely while also respecting others.

2) Perhaps a good way of visualizing and approaching this forum is to imaging that you are attending a dinner party at Khashyar and Lena's house. Have great and lively discussions, but speak and write in a way that would respect your hosts and the others who you would meet and speak to at a dinner party.

3) Just as you would not do if you were invited to our house, please do not make personal insults or attacks in the forum. Personal insults create negative feelings, and is contrary to creating the friendly, good-natured and beneficial atmosphere that we would like to create here. It is important for Lena and I to host and maintain a positive helpful atmosphere here, and we thank you for your helping us create this. We are all co-creators of this forum based on how we participate in these discussions.

4) Please be aware of the impact of what you write will have on other readers, and particularly if you are addressing or responding to another person or another person's ideas. Of course, express your thoughts freely and sincerely, but please be aware as to how they will affect others. We are not writing alone in a room, we are writing in a community full of real people who are gathering in Lena and Khashyar's internet home.

5) A good rule of thumb is to be aware of speaking to others as if you are speaking with them in person. Sometimes, because of the anonymity of the internet, it is easy to write or express something without thinking of the impact on readers of your message.

6) If you feel that someone has crossed the line and is not being respectful, please do not fan the flames (or flame http://www.russianmeetingplace.com/...ilies/smile.gif , and please do not respond in kind ). Perhaps the appropriate thing to do would be to remind them in a private message or email to please keep with the forum guidelines, etc...

7) Another way to deal with a flame, personal attack, or otherwise inappropriate post, is to notify me (Khashyar) or a moderator and let us deal with the possibly inappropriate post.

If there are those who continously and knowingly break our forum conduct guidelines and impact the RMP forum in a negative way, then, although I personally don't like to do this, for the sake of maintaining a positive environment in our discussions in which all of us can benefit, that member will be asked to leave the forum. But, certainly, Lena and I wouldn't want it to go that far, and we know that most everyone will work within these guidelines to help create the most positive atmosphere possible.
