Cell Phones with Russian Language Support

Hello All!

I have a question. On my trip with my gf I saw that her cell phone was cracked so I wanted to surprise her with a new cell phone. But so far all of the phones here in the US I have had no luck with them having Russian language support. I was wondering if anyone of you knew of any place I can get ones with Russian language (europe, asia?) other than Russia.

Thanks a lot!

I believe it's set to Russan when you insert the Simcard of the Russian service provider.

When I put a Kyivstar Simcard into my Ladies' phone, this was done automatically.

Ask your Lady which provider she uses and try a Google search. You may be able to find some info there.

I got my Kyivstar Simcard, for the Ukraine, from this website.

Have a browse here and good luck!!

I think Lester is robably right...

My fiance has a Nokia 7270 and it has Russian text/fonts but that same phone is available in the U.S. so it may just be a matter of how the SIM card is programmed by the service provider.

He's definitely right!

At the end of my last stay, I gave my fiance my mobile, knowing I could get a new contract and phone on my return to UK. We bought a Beeline SIM, installed it and to my astonishment, everything on the screen came up in Russian.

I called her mobile a few days ago and it's still working fine

I took a standard Sony 610 to a local place in the UK and he reprogrammed the software to allow full cyrillic support (input for text as well). As far as I'm aware, the cyrillic support was not standard on many phones and the software had to be installed and this could only be done manually using a special interface box and a slaptop.

I got cell phone abroad. This cell phone works in Russia with no "Russian language support". Good way for improving english language! :-))))

The sim card will provide the Cyrillic font but the only annoying thing would be a US phone wouldn’t have the Cyrillic characters on the number pad. So if she was trying to send an SMS to her friend it might make it more difficult. Plus entering stuff in to the phonebook might be harder. Just a thought.

If you need to, you can buy the keypad inserts from most of the kiosks that sell the phone covers out there.
They only cost about 6 UAH, if my memory serves me well!

Wow guys , thanks so much for your help. I think she will be able to deal with the keypad issues, as long as it can support the cyrillic font. You saved me about 300$ (how much more the phone cost in Russia opposed to here in the US). I'll try to look around for some local places for the cyrillic support but I think it'll be a little harder finding it here in Atlanta Georgia

Further to my post. We had to take the phone to get it unlocked. There were loads of places to do it. In the one we chose, there was a queue of people with phones, requiring all sorts of things. I would just get an up to date phone and take it with you, I am sure one of these shops can make any alterations or supports that, you require
