Off to St. Pete....

Well, after a year of writing and talking for about 4 months it is time to meet..

I leave in about 15 hours... I am excited and calm at the same time...

I can tell people that it feels a LOT different if you take your time.. the first one I visited was more of a want to be with someone as opposed to someone that matched... it was not bad, but we just did not click... I can tell with this one that we click a LOT more even over the phone.. and I keep being surprised that we have more things in common as we continue to learn about each other...

Well... I will not be here to read any replies... I have to PACK...

Thanks for all your help and knowledge.

So how was the trip?

Posted by: Texas Proud

Hey, thanks for asking....

Well, the trip was very successful.... there were some bumps along the road, but overall I think I found the one I want... time will tell...

Some of the things that were 'bad' is I would like for her to come visit.. but she kept asking for me to get her an invitation.. or telling her friends and family that I did not want to get her an invitation... I got VERY frustrated telling her that she does NOT need an invitation!!! Over and over again.. but I could not get it through her stubborn head... arrrrrrgggggghhhhhh

But, she is a very nice lady... and as a few of my friends have said, she sounds very very emotional... which she is... which is a good thing and a bad thing.. according to how she is feeling..

Hopefully I can get her over here to visit and things will progress from there...

As I say... all is good...

Am I reading this right, when she says an Invitation do you think she means an officialm one so she can enter your country? are you sure she does not mean a personal one from you?

The reason I mention this is I had a similar situation with Iryna whebn she came over to visit me twice, she had a business visa and could visit the UK anytime she wanted (if she could afford it), but would not come to visit me unless I invited her personally ie by email or letter. She told me it was not right for the women to ask such things and she could never come unless I invited her!! Don't aks me why but it was just her way and she really believed it.

just something to think about.

Chris...

Thanks for the thought... but no, she means an official invitation from a hotel or something... she said I was too cheap to book her a tour or a room so she could get an invitation from them to get her visa.. I kept telling her our system is NOT like theirs and you do not need an official invitation...

I have asked her to come over a couple of times.. and she is willing... what I need to send her is a letter saying that I will take financial responsibility for her stay and make sure that she leaves the country before her visa expires... we are trying for a visitor / tourist visa so she can meet the family and see what it is like here...

Yes I did the financial responsibilty letter also for Iryna just in case and it did help her get through Immi easily.

That's what I am hoping for... but thisis the US and who knows what will happen... if you read the website they ASSUME that you want to become an immigrant and you have to PROVE you do not... but she has property and two kids she will leave behind for the couple of weeks she comes over.. so I would think this and the letter would be enough... we will see... but, have to wait a month for her to get back home from visiting relatives...

Posted by: Chrismc

Write a letter to her inviting her toi visit you and specify the exact dates when she will arrive and leave again. State that you will be financially responsible for her while she is with you and you will provide or pay for accomodation and living expenses.

That is what I did and it certainly speeded up her passage through immi and customs, in fact she was through in about 20 minutes. Much quicker than me going the other way!!

first let me congratulate you on trip to Mother Russia, travel to points half way around this globe is never a small feat. Trip damn near "killed" me.
I'm not good on long flights.

Now as far as this invation business goes, shoot, if thats what the lady wants, then ......use computer to draw up fancy document, and invite her here ...and how.

She will be most impressed and satisfied, heck you could even have George Bush sign the thing.

Sometimes it better to keep the peace in the camp, by follow through on stuff like that.....just my opinion.

Any way Texas, I am so pleased you made the trip, and returned safely.
Yeah Russia is sure a different cup of tea.
But if you find the second half.....well can't put a price on that.

Best of luck, to continue to build and nuture

Texas, I dealt with this situation yesterday. Same deal - we have no invitation system. It help when I explained we also have no registration. Then it seemed to sink in that maybe it was different after all. Like you I am going to take over a letter of support .

Posted by: Texas Proud

Thanks So Cal and Deccie...

Yes, peace was made when I got back home and was able to send her information showing NO official invitation needed..

One of the problems is she has never been out of FSU before.. so ONLY knows thier system... would tell me, YOU should know this stuff because you have traveled so much... I would tell her... except for the Ukraine and Russia, I did not need a visa... and now I do not need one for Ukraine!!! And all my friends can come to the US without a visa as they are UK, Aussie or NZ... so how would I know the visa process for FSU to get into the US....

She also went to an 'expert' and spent some of my money... and they told her she could not get in because she did not make enough...ARRRRGGGGHHHH Why or why do they listen to these idiots!!! Well, she is visiting her childrens relative (father's side) right now, but will return in 2 more weeks... then we start the visa process to get her to come visit...

Like So Cal.... I would like her to come and see what our state is like... and then start the long process of fiance visa (that is... if all continues to go as well as it has)....

Again.. thanks

Congrats Texas....I hope all continues well.. I owuld not bring her to Houston or Galveston in july or August.... she will becasue of the heat and humidity!

Really glad all went well. let me know if you should need any assistance with applying for her visa. The lett of financial support, her strong ties to Russia will help her case considerably. I would also advise that she open a bank account in Spb at the Citibank.. this will be a hugh plus, immigration see this as an extremely strong reason to come back, and not immigrate.

When I was in Russia, I opended an account for my wife at the local Citibank office. makes it easy to send her money as well.

Take care.

I don't know about the US system but for all Russians applying for a UK visa they need a letter of invitation. I have written many of them, all its says is that they are invited to stay with me and I will take financial responsibility for looking after them (ie they will not be a burden on the state). If they do not have this then they have to show at the consulate or the border that they have enough money to take care of themselves.
another factor to remember is that I think Russia still requires its citizens to have Exit Visas (something rather alien to US or EU citizens but a hangover from the old days) even if they already have an Red Passport. This is issued by the OVIR (the Bureau for the Control of Public Order) the same people who register visas for foreigners. They will want to see the letter of invitation. In the past this had to be translated and the translation certified. I don't know how much this situation still applies but if more recent arrivals may be able to help.

Good Luck

Hi John... Welcome to the forum I used to live in Braintree, just down the road from you... Are you linked with the language school near stansted - I forget the name, but remember investigating it when I was looking for a CELTA course. Anyway, hello!
