I'm 34, never married, no kids. Don't know why I've waited so long. Maybe I was trying to avoid the same mistakes my parents made. I've been thinking seriously about finding someone and settling down for the past 3 years or so.

I started out writing my fiancee just because I was interested in finding out about what life was like in Russia today. I didn't set out to find a Russian bride or anything. Although I will admit that after living in the Czech Republic for a time, I had a thing for slavic women. I also had pen pals in other countries like Ukraine, Poland, Czech, Germany, UK, etc. as well as local girls. But Olya was something special. We began our correspondence by email in April 2002. She wrote English well. Then we started talking on the phone and I was surprised to learn that her speaking was just as good if not better. After about 4 months of phone/email correspondence I was on a business trip to the UK and I decided to take a little excursion to Moscow to visit her. Everything was perfect and we really clicked. A few months after that we met in Prague and had a wonderfully romantic time. It was here that we declared our love for each other. Then 3 months later she came to visit me in the US. She managed to get a tourist visa by some miracle. She got to meet my parents and friends and see where I live. We became engaged on this meeting. Then last May I went to Moscow again for 3 weeks to be with her and since then we are waiting for the K-1 process to finish. Should be hearing from the Embassy in Moscow very soon with our interview date. I'll go over for that as well.

She is everything I was looking for: very loving, very practical, very committed to our relationship and I also love the fact that we are the same age! She also has never been married and has no kids.

From the day we first met, I have never wondered what I should say or do around her. It is the first time in my life I have ever been so in synch with anyone. Of course, there are times we have misunderstandings, usually because of the cultural differences, but we are both mature enough to realize that that is what they are.

I didn't realize when I got into this relationship that I would become a member of such a nice club as we have here. It's been a pleasant experience sharing with those on this board. Thanks to everyone

Thanks for the story. I think sharing stories like yours is a great way for all of us to connect. This forum is by far better for small personal windows some of us open.

Sharing common experiences is an important aspect of a community and in such ways friends are made and kept I think.

That was a great story Gole. Thanks for sharing some of your personal experience. I agree with Dennis and Natasha, it is great to see people share in their personal endeavors on the AM/RW relationships! That is what makes this forum and the people that belong to it so great!!

A really lovely story Golek. I agree completely that this is a great site for sharing, and second and third what Dennis/Natasha and Kevin have said. It is a great way to connect, and I have also found that if I ever feel any negativity (with distances between my girlfriend and I), this website has so much information and advice, all from great people like you all.

I feel amazingly attached to my girlfriend, and sometimes asked myself whether I was letting my feelings and emotions go forward too quickly, but I see from so many guy's on this site, that I have simply allowed myself to fall for the most amazing girl in the world, just like so many on this site

(that is all of your amazing ladies, not mine, lol)

Thanks for all your kind words, everybody. I really like the positive attitude on this site. I've visited other boards on this subject that were filled with too many whiners and chicken littles. Reading the posts there only served to get me depressed and frustrated. Then I found this site!
