I have varying thought on this. I have been emailing a "nice" RW that found me. I was not really looking so we started emailing back and forth. The first couple months were really nice. She ask lots of questions and so did I and she actually answered mine. She did not send me a bunch of "model pictures" but ones of her and her friends at work. Then I got the I love you letter. Kind of out of character from the previous emails but ok. Yup big red flag and my little voice is screaming "warning will robinson warning". She calls me but the message is just telling me the same thing. This is Elena I was born on Oct 2 love you kiss kiss write me back. Hell I knew that why would you call long distance just to give your birthday that we have discussed before. Ok address check time. Per russian blacklist there is a Elena at that address. Ok maybe I am just reading to much about scams. Then I get this.
"My girlfriend Oksana have connected with her aunt
Tatyana to Moscow! As Tatyana has said to Oksana that she has learned how much cost a visa and a foreign passport for my coming to you!!!!!Tatyana have connected with Embassy and there Tatyana was informedthat it will be better for us with you if I will have the visa of atourist. This tourist visa B-2, the visitor visa will valid during sixmonths. The price of this visa, as Tatyana was informed in embassy, is 115 US dollars. Besides the process of the registration of the visa costs 60 US dollars. By the way Oksana's aunt Tatyana as has taken an interest about another kinds of the visas too, as to her have said, that there is a set of kinds of the visas. For example, visa of abride. Tatyana has thought that this visa of bride approaches to us, but her in Embassy have said that this visa costs more expensively and
visa's registration costs a lot of money. It will cost around 750
dollars US and the registration of the visa will during eight months,it is very long and expensive! From it because the tourist visa B-2 isthe betterest variant than visa of bride now for us my love Brent! My Brent, I must to ask you one thing, I will need to ask your helpwith a financial charges for the getting of all necessary documents for my coming to you. difficult
financial situation, and the government don't have a funds on the
salary for the any kind of the job in total.
My Brent, also I asked my parents to help me with this charges on
the necessary documents for my coming to you, but my mum and dad doesn't have such large funds though they would like to help us, Brent. My love Brent, in general as aunt Tatyana said, I'll need
for 335 US dollars for the beginning of the registration. This amountinclude the price of the visa is 115 dollars, visa's registration is60 dollars, foreign passport's price is 65 US dollars, also I willneed to pay for medical exams too, it will be 55 dollars, and I willneed to pay for the coming from Irkutsk to Moscow City, I have learnedabout the price of the airplane ticket Irkutsk - Moscow, it will be 1200.00 russian rubles or it is around 40 US dollars.By the way Oksana's aunt Tatyana will try to find the cheaper pricesof the air ticket for the fling to you. Aunt Tatyana just will need insome information, ......"
Then I get the send it western union. Dam the luck. You know I would have sent her money just to have her write me with no expectations she even said do not send her gifts. Well I allready arranged to send her flowers for her birthday with a picture to be taken I guess I could cancel it. She did open my eyes to this possiblility so there is good to come from it. I will be hopefully writting some of the ladies from this site. My questions is how would you respond?
thanks,
Brent

Hmmm...

Reads just like the first Russian woman I every corresponded with, Galya from Penza. Started out with reasonable letters. Answered my questions. No model pictures, but shots like with her Mum at her graduation or wearing heavy coat and Russian hat, in front of a landmark.

After about 5-6 weeks, letters get full of "I love you", and shortly afterwards she "finds out" that she can get a visa for $350 (where does this magic number come from, anyway?). I had already sent the flowers at this point, but they were not yet delivered. Turned out her home address was that of a bank (ironic twist, no?). Fortunately, the company I used to send the flowers refunded all of my money, without me asking. Anyone interested (in the flower company, not the girl) should PM me, and I'll give you their name/link.

I fortunately didn't lose any money to this scammer. Some are getting smarter. It is, after all, a game of confidence (After all, isnt that what 'con' stands for in 'con man'?). They try to make it seem as real as they can, so you believe them.

I was researching Russia and figuring out how I could travel there. There is a positive side to her attempt to scam me. I was already disappointed in on-line dating closer to home. Galya (or whatever her real name is) showed me it was possible to consider finding a relationship half way around the world. In a way, she is responsible in my finding my fiancee. So I can't be too mad about it.

Your woman may be legit, though I would wager much of what I have against it. How do you respond? Walk away, and put it behind you. Don't waste your time trying to play games with the scammers. It just wastes your valuable time, and gains you nothing. Lesson learned. Take your new found knowledge, and move on.

I'm sorry.

I agree with Fred.. Just walk away. She will undoubtedly write several more letters wondering why you have not responded. Send them to the trash and move on!! If the girl is legit. She will line things up that either you can take care of directly or you can pay for when you get there. Nadya and I have been corresponding for well over two months now and we have just started to tell each other we love and care for each other in that respect. But we both know we must meet in her country to know for sure that what we feel is for real. Keep on looking, but keep your eyes open. you will know when you have met the right one!!
Talk on the phone alot!! A short call for Nadya and I is 30 minutes. Most calls are 1 to 2 hours!!

This is a scam! Run like hell!

bassinfool,

I'm sorry to say this, but I have to agree...

RUN FORREST, RUN!

I have seen a number of scams that go very much like this. Several years ago they were elementary and easy to catch ("I need $$ for my Mum's operation"). The past couple of years the scammers have gotten more elaborate and inventive. They try to get you emotionally involved, then drop hints at needing money, hoping you will lovingly offer to send the $$.

I am a member of a couple other Russian women forums and I can tell you that the Visa scam is a very popular one.

Also, Russian women can't just go and get a tourist visa to the US; its not that easy. In fact its rather difficult to obtain!

Keep this basic rule in mind: NEVER send money to a lady that you have not met in person!

Sorry for the bad news.
