The Shock of Proposal

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After fifteen months of telephone calls, letters and a total of four weeks together, a month ago I proposed to my Nadya. Hahaha, there was a pregnant pause between her reading the words on the page and her saying yes (her written English is better than her spoken English). Silent and delighted shock!
Her sister does not graduate from university for another two years and not until that time will she move to the UK. Total time from making contact over the internet to living together will be something in the region of three years.

The question I want to put to all others is how long between meeting and marrying was it for you and what were the most stressful times?

Nice one

I presume that the proposal was via internet chat, as it was written and you were also able to determine the pause..? I bet her smile was a mile wide

Bummer that you'll have to wait that long before she can move here though....2 years=at least 8 trips=at least £8000 probably

I can't answer your last question unfortunately (yet) as you're ahead of me. I'm visiting Elena in Moscow next month and while there we're going to apply for a tourist visa for her to come here for Xmas and New Year. I'm not too optimistic so presume we'll end up meeting somewhere else.

I must say thought that the 2 months since I last saw her (i.e. between visit 2 and 3) has been much harder than the time between visit 1 and 2)....not surprising I suppose.

Congrats Woody
For Liliya and I:
We met online in March of 02
We met in person in July of 02
We got engaged in November of 02
We arrived together in NYC in August of 03
We'll be married in Nov 03 (if all goes as planned)

The most stressfull times were waiting for my Gov't to get off its collective arse and do the 15 minutes of paperwork that would advance us to the next phase toward visa issuance
other than that, 2 days before until 2 days after arrival in the states were quite difficult from a relationship perspective.

I met my future RW January 14, 2003 (I received her first letter that date). We met in person exactly 6 months later (July 14, 2003). I proposed with a diamond ring on July 16. I sent paperwork in August 5, 2003. I expect her here around Feb-March 2004 (hopefully April at the latest - I've been watching the processing times for TSC).

Ho

C O N G R A T S or in Danish tillykke

Actually I am not married YET. I was going to be in 20 days, but paperwork delay this. However not more than 100 days.

From our first meeting in February 03 to her YES in august. Thats is 6 months and 7 weeks together.

Congrats Clive!!

I imagine that you were quite anxious waiting for her to answer with a yes!!
When I go in December, I have to see if the chemistry is there for real like it is now before I can pop the wuestion. I am hopeful it will be, but one never knows for sure until that day has arrived.

Any way, Congrats and I'm sure you will make trips to see each other as often as you can afford in that two year waiting period!

Thank you, thank you, thank you........

Hahaha, to me it is perfectly clear, I just didn't think to put it into words. I must explain..... Nadya was over in the UK for two weeks, end August / beginning September. The first week I took her, together with my two children, up to a little place on the North Wales coast. On the first full day I decided that no more time would be wasted and with her beside me and pen/paper to hand I wrote my proposal down. This was to ensure she understood exactly what I was asking.
The last thing I wanted to do was propose and not see the her reaction. It was pleasant to see her whole body in a state of excited shock.

CONGRATULATIONS CLIVE! Best to you and Nadya for a wonderful life together.

I started writing Sveta in Sep 02, met for 25 days in May & Jun 03 and we are now waiting on the paperwork. I certainly hope it goes faster then it is. Up to this point the toughest part is the waiting for California to process the paperwork. Even though we want to be together now it is also a special time. I used to be in the Navy and I know when two people are really in love being apart from each other makes that love even stronger. And the reunion is that much more special....
