Hi,is it better to buy a wedding ring in Russia or in your own country..US,Canada,UK?Is it any less expencive to buy the same quality of ring in Russia?

Also,I know everyone will have a differant answer for this one...how much should be spent on a wedding ring?
I think here in Canada, but not possitive on this,it is supost to be a months wadges,or was it 3 months wadges.

Hey Randy,
Just wondering, are you talking about wedding rings or engagement rings? Most wedding rings I have seen are just plain(ish) gold bands and I couldn't imagine it would cost more than a few days wages to purchase, hence why I'm thinking you might mean engagement rings (diamonds etc) in which caseyou might be closer to the three months(?) salary. There is another post around here somewhere.... where russian gold (and rings) was talked about and it seems that their gold is more like what we would call "rose" gold because of the higher copper(?) content.
Hmm hope this helps,
Sam,

Randy, That 3 month thing is a "tradition" that DeBoors started around 1900 for engagement rings. Have you heard of DeBoors before..

They got super dooper rich with that one.

I bought Tanya's rings in Egypt when I proposed to her at the jewerly store..

nat was a school teacher in siberia, pay isn,t even close to oz teachers lol
mate take it from me sticking (or trying lol) to your budget is the way to go,this deal can be expensive but well worth it too.
cheers

Randy I thiink AK is right 3 months wages, but only because the likes of De Boors and De Veers and one or two others have managed to make us guys feel cheap if we don't keep up the tradition which they successfully managed to market to us a hundred years ago.

You're a good sport Randy.

There are cheaper countries you can buy Gold in, eg Egypt, when I worked there it was really cheap, but you have to watch what you are buying, some of it is not proper gold or the quality is inferior or the gold is mixed with other metals, and it is easy to get ripped off.

Maybe better sticking to what you know locally? unless your future wife knows good places where she lives!!

Skinsfans, your link didn't work for me (but then this Novosibirsk Municipal Telephone System sometimes has trouble finding yahoo.com, so your link might be fine!)

We're also wondering where to buy wedding rings. I bought her engagement ring at a store across the street back on October '04. That was fun. Spent I forget how much, $300-400 US equivalent, for a very pretty ring. It was well over a month of her wages. We looked at a lot of rings and found one that is "hers".

Elsewhere on this site is a posting of some beautiful Russian wedding rings that are three bands woven together. We went shopping last week, hoping to find such bands. On the Internet I find these called "Russian Rolling Rings" but here in Novosibirsk the jewelers say that, on the one hand, these rings are not in style and, on the other, that they are a foreign style. There is a jeweler in Ft. Collins, Colorado who has a website with many such beautiful rings. Such a pity we cannot find them here.

We really like the Rose Gold (an alloy with a bit of copper in it, rare in the US) color, but haven't been able to find good rings for each other in three trips to jewelry stores. Perhaps we'll buy in the States. At any rate, we'll keep shopping and time isn't of the essence -- the wedding is probably about a year off.

I like the red goldish when you buy ring in Russia. Which also make it a little more special when you home to USA, Europe or so
