I just watched this movie on cable the other night and I really liked it.

I sat through the closing credits specifically to see where it was filmed and it was filmed on location in Prague, not Ukraine but it was still pretty countryside.

Here is a picture of the REAL Lviv train station. It looks different from the one where their movie journey began. Also, notice that the McDonald's there had English signage.

The credits never actually say it was filmed in Prague. They say that casting and post production studio work was done in Prague. I think they probably used Prague as a main base until the Ukrainian film industry takes off.

Here's the real home of horrific food from FSU:

I know for movie production they'll often turn buildings into other buildings. When the scene was playing I thought: "There's just not enough people there for it to be the real one. It's like a ghost town" Thanks for the pictures of the real thing.

I beg you to watch the credits again, and follow this link. See the last paragraph of Laura's review and the second to last paragraph of Robin's review.

Thanks Eril. Those are two great reviews. I went back to watch the credits again and still don't see where it was filmed in Czech Rep. But I trust those two people. And who cares where it was filmed...it was a great movie.

PS: Anyone who has been dealing with Russian people for any length of time will have come across a man just like Alex....track suit and all.

Thanks for the link to this movie.
I hired it on DVD and watched it earlier this week.
Good interesting movie. A few interesting things i learnt from the movie so i was glad i was made aware of it here and watched it.

Some people i see are saying it was filmed in Prague however the first city i was in when i visited Ukraine earlier this year was Odessa. The first scene with Alex in it looked exactly like a street i remember walking down in Odessa and plus the McDonalds in that city was in english so have no reason to think it was not filmed in Ukraine. That does not mean some of it may have been shot somewhere else but there was enough footage that looked very much like places i went to.

Also just recenly i saw a doco called "The Whisperer" that was done in Ukraine. not a movie but real people in it so was absolutely fascinating and give me more insight into the country i visited i knew so little about.

Alex is such a classic character.

Prague is very hollywood friendly so I would bet that they mixed Prague and Ukraine locales for the shooting the movie.

Well, in the begining, there are some shots that are definitely Odessa...but the train station is not the Odessa train station.

That's what doesn't make sense. He is supposed to be picking him up in Odessa, but the train station in the movie says L'viv train station on the front. L'viv is nowhere near Odessa.

they used some stock footage of places in odessa. i guess they figured a train staion is a train station and didn't care. but i remember seeing in the credits that it was filmed in the CR.

I saw Cinemax is airing this movie.
