A NEW way to find an honest woman from Russia

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: scotch

I discovered this accidentally last week.. I've already found a great girl through freepersonals.ru, but recently signed up to a Russian friendship site with the hope of meeting someone who can help me find a job in Moscow.

My ad on there is purely friendship / business related (open to meeting males and females) and I'm getting a lot of correspondence from Russian women who are genuinely interested in my life in Australia - they ask me lots of questions .. no romantic dribble , no generic emails ..all real women who are wondering what a foreigner is doing on their friendship website.

You see, the whole site is pa-rooski (in Russian), my ad is written in Russian, and the girls (and a few gay Russian men) will write to you in Russian! I'm one of the few foreigners on there so I guess thats why I'm getting a fair bit of attention.

And one of the best things... it's totally free!!

Anyway, I'm happy with who Ive found already .. we talk or MSN every night for the past 3 months, and meet in July ..but I was just thinking to myself last night ..if I was starting over and wanted to meet REAL Russian women then I would definitely give this site a go.

The only downside is they may not be interested in meeting a foreigner or relocating .. every girl I’ve spoken to is happy with Russia (for those of you who read the ‘scammer’ section of these forums .. I think I would consider this a good thing!)

http://www.love.joinfriends.com/

In terms of navigating the site, you can pretty much guess what the buttons do by holding your mouse over the top of the links (without clicking). You will see little hints like 'login', 'my profile', 'options' etc appear at the bottom of the screen (written in English).

But for the bulk of the site I use expensive translation software ..(that is on 'loan' from a friend ). I also used this software to help me write my ad. And the feedback from the Russians who contacted me said it sounded like real Russian (but without the usual slang).

For a web-based version of this software try:

http://www.translation.imtranslator.net/

It'll do if you can't find or afford the software (and it also has a handy web-page translator ... see top right-hand corner).

Oh, and by the way, you can write to them in English! they seem used to translating, or perhaps they can read it directly. But be courteous and don't ask them to write to you in English .. even if they have studied it in the past, often they don't have an opportunity to practice.

Have fun guys!

scotch.

I was actually just on the site, and some of the profiles' 'About me' section are written in English characters.
Is this not Russian/Ukranian?
Example:
vse zavisit ot nastroeniya i ot ludei vokryg.

Posted by: mistermopar

It dose not look like any Russian that I know of RRR.
You said you were just on the site, the love.joinfriends or the translation site.

Hi RRR,

Almost everything on this site is written in normal Cyrillic (Russian text) .. perhaps you happened to click on a person who is located in the USA and does not have access to a Russian keyboard? (local people - to you - always appear on the homepage)

I would say 99% of the profiles of people in Russia are written in Cyrillic - so you can easily pop them into a translator.

Plus, the entire website is written in Cyrillic also.

Randy, I'll shoot you a PM re: the type of work Im looking for!

Regards, scotch.

The writing in russian language. In Roman alphabet. We call this "translit".
Using special site for getting change writing text from Roman in Russian before translation.

Posted by: Chrismc

Use this site guys and click the Transliterate unknown words: box should work OK

Chris

Posted by: RRR

Randy: I saw this on the love.joinfriends site... the using of the Roman alphabet.

Ms. Smarty Pants: I didn't understand your last sentence. Writing the Russian in Roman alphabet is sometimes used as an intermediary between English and Russian when translating, you mean? Which special site?

Chrismc: Can you explain how to go from tranlit to English? I can do English to translit, and Russian cyrllic to translit. But not the other way on http://www.translation.imtranslator.net/

Sorry, I don't pretent to be Chrismc ..but I think I can answer this for ya.

Make sure the translation direction is Russian-English, and tick the 'decode' button just below the box where you enter the text.

Doesn't work everytime, however, ...depends on how it's been transliterated in the first place.

Cheers!

Your example: "vse zavisit ot nastroeniya i ot ludei vokryg".

- "vse zavisit ot nastroeniya i ot ludei vokryg"
This russian sentence wrote in English characters (Roman alphabet).

- "Âñå çàâèñèò îò íàñòðîåíèÿ è îò ëþäåé âîêðóã" (in Cyrillic alphabet).

RRR, if you want to translate this sentence, you need to change this spelling from English characters (Roman alphabet) to Russian characters (Roman alphabet).

Posted by: RRR

Sorry didn't mean to take over Scotch's thread.
But thank you very much... the 2 sites work well, and makes sense.

Posted by: Raspberry

Is "translit" the same as "unicode"? Sometimes I have received messages in Cyrillic, or combinations of Cyrillic and English, and they will almost always say "unicode" on the top of the page.....

Posted by: Chrismc

You can change unicode to various others in certain email programmes and word

RRR, I had the same problem with my webmail account also. But they only send you a confirmation email after you signup, and you just have to click the link inside. They also send you an email when someone sends you a message, but I just click the link inside it also. I have never needed to read an email that comes from the joinfriends admin.

If you really wanna read the admin emails I suggest you get a mail.ru account. I use it for all my Russian correspondence as it always handles Cyrillic perfectly.

Warm regards, scotch.

PS. Just want to add that over the past week I've had about 7 gorgeous Russian girls contact me (and some guys also) and want to know about Australia and what sort of job I'm looking for in Moscow. This is a higher hitrate than the usual agency sites (for me, anyway ). When I tell them that I'm single but off the market, and only looking to make friends, it seems to make the girls want to contact me even more Women are so complex...

They want what they can't have, it is now a mission for them, maybe that is the way forward, write to lots and tell them you are off limits and see what happens!!

Posted by: RRR

So, what happened to this site?
I might have remembered they're doing some work on it?

I would say the same holds true for singles.ru. It is all in Russian, there are very few if any non-Russians on the site. You will get lots of attention. It is entirely free. The main difference from the joinfriends site is that singles.ru is a dating site with folks from all over the world, including many ladies from the USA.

Posted by: RRR

Were you replying to my post?

Actually I was asking, why the love.joinfriends.com site has not been working for several days.
But I'll check out this singles.ru....

Why do you have to move back? Last time I check, the only things you have to do is die and pay taxes. Speaking of which, do you pay taxes in Russia, how does that work over there?
