Hi
I'm thinking about going to Kherson in the Ukraine at some point, most likely after my trip to Siberia and I want to do it cheaply.

I looked on the internet for hotel costs and the hotels were really expensive, averaging at least $40 per day. I pay those sort of prices in London. What is going on here?

Is it possible to find an apartment for less than $200 a month? It should be since the average wage is only $180 a month in the Ukraine and I don't think Kherson is the most prosperous of towns.

I did read somewhere that you can find a place for about hr 8 per day at a seaside town ( i forget the name. It has a student population) but I couldn't find out whether this was true.

$40 a day is cheap, the cheapest I have seen an apartment is around $35 - $40 / day but that is for a pretty basic apartment. But it all depends on what city you are looking in as the larger cities will usually be dearer than the smaller ones.

The cheapest I have found in Kherson for an apartment is $40 / day but you can pay more than double that, so you can imagine what the cheap ones will be like.

The cheapest Hotel I have found is around thre $40 / night, but if you search long enough you will probably get them a little cheaper but I cannot imagine them down to the price you are looking for. Maybe for native Ukranians but not for tourists.

Tanya is renting her apt. out for 300 hyrvnia and utilities ($60 US)a month to a young lady. So that gives you an idea what a local would pay for a long term rental.
We had a local contact in Stevastopol and rented an apt. that looked as if the owner had left the day before. Clothes in the closet even. We got that for $15 per night.
Try and get a local contact to arrange an apt. if possible.

OMG! Where are these $40 hotel rooms in London? I haven't found anything worth staying in at twice that price, and if I want to stay by Heathrow or Gatwick, it will be three times that price. Dude, count your blessings. $40 anywhere is a great deal for a nice clean room.

What city was Tanya from AK?

Time of the year makes a big factor on what you will pay on hotels, just like with flights. September the prices seem to drop an incredible amount.

Yeh Cheb....if he can tell me where they are I will move in full time and sell my house!! it would be much cheaper he he

I was paying more than that a night 20 years ago when working in London. If you can get them for $40 now I dread to think what condition they are in!!

JP55,
Tanya was from Cherkassy. 2.5 hrs south of Kiev on the Dnieper.
Winter is very much cheaper than summer rates. But I am only able to travel in the winter because of my job. So all is good!
The apt. we rented in Yalta was only $25 per night within 3 blocks of the sea. A very nice clean modern place too.
