I regularly post letters and parcels from the UK to Saratov and vice versa. My experience is 15 to 23 days although the last one took only 10.

Using the United States Post Office,it took about 4 weeks for the package to arrive to Rima.I have used Federal Epress to send a packet and it took about 3 days.

Fedex is the fastest around 4 business days from the US to St Petersburg though it'll cost you around 90$ @_@

Air Mail took around a month.

I have found DHL to be most reliable.... Sorry. Fed ex is good... but DHL clears it's own customs. From LA to Spb 3 Days..

91.50$

but if you need urgency from US to Spb or Moscow.. this is the only way to go....

I have no idea from India

On June 5, I sent a parcel from the USA to Novosibirsk, using USPS Express Mail. It arrived on 14 June. This is a typical time -- I have sent over a dozen parcels and each has taken 10-14 days.

DHL clears its own customs? wow ! Do you think I would be able to send a cell phone to her with DHL?

Co-incidentally, my fiance recieved my small parcel this morning in Omsk (16 June). I sent it by small package rate on Tuesday 6th June, from East Anglia in UK. So its taken exactly 10 days. I sent her a registered letter last Monday. I'll let you know when it arrives.

I know this is very exiting, but dont hold your breath.

My USA cell phone (Cingular) does not work in Russia, even when my fiance's son puts in his own SIM card. There is obviously some incompatibility -- maybe the phone doesn't work on the right frequency.

So, even if DHL can ship the phone -- which may not be allowed by Russian customs rules -- it may not work once it arrives.

Novotul: depending on the cell phone, you may have to have the cell phone unlocked. Any cell phone dealer in Russia can do this for you. Here is an easy way to know if the phone can be unlocked and work in Russia. Go to one of the flower delivery web sites that also will deliver cell phones. Write them an email as to what make and model cell phones they have, then you can buy that cell here in the US and viola!

Your phone has to be tri-band to work. I use cingular and it works great. I always switch to a Russian SIM card when I get there. but you do have to ensure it is a tri band phone.... also you will have to call cingular to get the unlock code for your phone...

I am not sure about a cell phone... it might have to pay a duty. check on the Russian customs webpage on any airport website. (airport in Russia)
