'Day Watch' A must see movie as well...

'Day Watch' has been showing at theaters in Russia for some time now. I just got an official copy last month and can say that it is a must see movie. This is a first class Russian production. It is the 2nd of a trilogy. If you thought that 'Night Watch' (1st of the trilogy) was good then you will be blown away with 'Day Watch' and its innovative graphics and effects. This is definitely a boy movie with its mix of Matrix and Blade type themes.

I'm going to watch it tonight

Is it true that the third episode will be done by Hollywood? I wonder if they are going to change the Moscow setting to something like LA...

I like this movie, but Day Watch is better! There wasn't such films in Russia before.

Hi,

I saw this last New Year time in Bratsk....after seeing it, I wondered how a third part can possibly relate to what has just happened in Day Watch!

At least in any sense of continuity....

Is there a version with English subtitles? I thought I saw a version with English subtitles on eBay, but was skeptical about it being authenicate copy (as opposed to a bootleg copy).
I read the novel and thought it was much better than the film (despite the high production values).

There will be a limited showing of the movie here in the U.S. on June 1st.

I'm looking for a Phoenix showing, but I think it will be LA and NY only.

I watched a free screening in Scottsdale last night. Очень хорошо!
I already want to see it again, so I can't wait to buy the DVD (NTSC).

I thought the production values where good and were comparable U.S. movies. However, the director has caught the Western tradition of "happily after" endings with second chances. The book leaves things less resolved and with Anton condemn to continue his existence as an Other.
The other key things which it lacked were some of the gender issues that appear in the book.
The film does go a fair job of showing the conflict between Westernizers and Slavophiles - which suggest that truce between the two philosophies with some type of monitoring.
Finally, the film down plays the search for the killer of the Evil Ones. In the book, the killer is human judge who doesn't realize he is Light One and he thinks that doing the right thing by murdering the Evil Ones. Even more interesting, is that killer is not punished but becomes a judge of the Others. I find this interesting because in film Brat, the main character is arrested by police and instead of being tried for his crimes, the intergrotor suggests that he join the police. Also, in the same film the main character sends his hitman brother home with the advice he should join the police.
I am not sure how to interpret these observations, they sure are very interesting.
By the way, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I just watched my Night Watch DVD last night and started wondering when the DVD for Day Watch was coming out. Google is my friend, and we did some searching.

I'm pleased to announce more good news for fans of the Day Watch movie. This from Fox Searchlight home page DVD Info

There's supposed to be some new footage not shown in theaters. I guess that's why the "Unrated". Seems like every movie nowadays has to have "Unrated" on it...

I saw this in Moscow. It was really neat because, the theater we were in was just down the street from the hotel they blew up. We had eaten in the restaurant where one of the fight scenes took place--it has a bunch of aquariums in it. I didn't-an don't-know moscow very well but the movie had me saying--I have been there!! all the way through. It should have been two parts though...2 1/2 hours!!! The seats were wooden and my butt was sore!! haha I do want to see it again!! Bring it to Georgia!!!
