Personal webpages on the RMP forums? (a myspace-like added feature)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking about adding a feature where registered forum members can create personal html webpages in the RMP Forums, which show up in their profiles...

MEmbers could create a webpage (in html), and then others can post comments to the webpage.

I am looking into it...

Sounds like fun. But you will need to create a set of clear guidelines, and actively monitor them. Not that I think any of our member will post anything inappropriate in them, but you may have trolls come along and create, uh, less than desireable pages with questionable images and intent.

Yes, Jill...

We can't allow any pornographic photos of members

Actually, I think that if someone posts anything inapppropriate, then people will let us know.

The only think that I wonder is do people know how to create a page in html? To be abel to create the personal webpage that shows up in your profile (with a guestbook), they will have to use html (webpage language). Programs like frontpage or some other programs can help you do this, but someone who is not familiar with html, or who doesn't have an HTML editor, many have a hard time creating their page.

Also, I think that photos that you place on your webpage have to either be first posted in another thread in the forum, or from someone other website, though I can check on whether that is actually the case.

Damn good idea... would be interesting to see some diaries... could you not include a blog area? maybe there's some software, i.e. eblog, that could be incorporated... either way, give it a go Kashyar! For the meantime, those people that can get their heads round HTML will try it. FYI, one can write something in Word and same as HTML and copy & paste to the site...

It's a great idea... you'll have to start charging by the idea soon

Re. Pornorgraphic content, why not appoint a Mod - I'd be happy to volunteer

Hi Bing,

Do you think that user blogs would be something that our members would be interested in?

Absolutely... I think it'd be a great way to offer advice through experience... it's surprising what little tid-bits I've gleaned through reading other people's experiences (good & bad). I guess, in short, there's a certain voyeuristic element to this, but if it helps to another person, I'd be happy to post a blog...

PS. if you make me the blog "uber-mod", I promise not to abuse my power and try to take over the World....

You can take over your own world if you would like, Bing...

If we had a choice between ading a blog, or adding a personal webpage, which do you think forum members most enjoy?

I have a question about blogs...

What is the difference between someone writing their experiences in the forum, and someone writing their experiences in a blog?

I could create a new section in the forum, for example, where people can post their "blogs," and where we could either allow or not allow other's to post their comments there. It would look exactly like other forum sections, except that we would not allow others to post replies to a person's "Blog."

Why would someone choose to wrote a blog over their diary in a specific forum section that we can create?

I think that if people know 100% that they can't be lambasted for their actions, they are more likely to post honestly.... I for one have held back because of the recriminations that I could expect...

Hi Bing,

I could easily set up a forum section (called something like "Blogs" or "personal journals), where people can post their thoughts, and replies to their own thoughts, without allowing others to post replies to their blog entries...

Should I do that? Or... add some kind of blog page, where people can also add comments in a "guest book" ?
