Hand Luggage Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

As you know im going to Siberia this fri and will be going through Moscow airport.Im pushed for time with the next flight so thought maybe pack a kitbag and carry it with me.I was wondering how big a bag i would get away with.Any ideas.

Posted by: AkMike

Call your airline for the exact size. Gennerally a small gym bag is a good size IMO. Just make sure that it's soft sided so you can stuff it under the seat infront of you or in the overhead bins. Aeroflot doesn't like it in the overhead bins though for some of their older planes.

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks ,the bag i was thinking of would be a good size gym bag.Not as big as a case but big enough to bting cloths etc.I will Check.

Posted by: AkMike

I'd guess 18" X 12" X 12" maximum. And PLEASE don't ask me to convert to metrics...
I have my Achilles heel too.

Posted by: JamesB

No worries ,i think i may have to put bag through. They arranged second flight check in 25 minutes after arrivel.Sneg is the second flight is from different terminal.30 minute drive away.I hear immigration is a nitemare and so expect to have problems. Its all being paid for by tv company as they are doing documentary on guys who meet r/w so i should not moan. Thanks for the advice.

Posted by: AkMike

Yeah I bet you're going to have problems based on what you said on the other thread. I'd bring this carry-on and keep it close. Carry a days worth of clothes and misc. that you don't want to loose.

Posted by: JamesB

Guess so but in there 6 days and will be going out and meeting family etc. Also we are being filmed so dont want to be in same stuu all the time.Aero flot just said it was plenty of time.

Posted by: AkMike

Good Luck ! I have a hunch you'll need it but I do hope I'm wrong.

Prepare for the worst, expect the best!

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks again,i would be lieing if i said i was,nt apprehensive but its a free trip and i get to see liuda before out wedding in six weeks so i can,t lose.Tv compant said if i miss flights they would put me in Hotel until following Day.

Posted by: JamesB

Oh i just thought .As you are in Alaska. It is very cold in Siberia now and i have to buy jacket tomorrow.Better lined jacket or thinner jacket with many layers.Everyone says different?

Posted by: AkMike

I'd get a lined coat. Layered is a PITA trying to get everything right. Just unzip if it gets too hot. What are there temps there? It should be around freezing by now. So that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Posted by: JamesB

Hi apparentlty at night it has been as low as minus 27 so its pretty cold.

Posted by: AkMike

Then stay inside at night. I can't believe it's still that cold there.. Weird.

Bundle up and bring a good sweater.

Posted by: skinsfan

i agree with AKmike...bring a set of clothes in your carry on....in the Russia many times you take one vacation, and your bags take a different vacation...it happened to me, and i wasn't prepared...i was pretty ripe until the shops opened the next day......have fun, bring warm clothes...my Russian wife says that Siberia is never warm (although she has never been)...

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks,im resigned now to letting my bag through.Chances are i will miss my connecting flight anyway but at least i will be warm.Cheers.

As for the weather, check out:
http://weatherstation.wunderground....ery=novosibirsk

It's very comprehensive. And, dont forget, its a dry cold, so -1C feels a lot warmer than the wet-cold -1C in Blighty.

Hand baggage depends on the airline. i.e Krasair:

I wasn’t too impressed with the flight; I think the seats came from old Citroen 2CVs. And, the luggage compartments were so small that, most people (including me) had to store their bags under their seats.

It resembled a refugee flight, mainly because of the size of the bags people took on board and weren't able to store them anywhere!

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks for that ,im sure it will be very usefull.Cheers

Posted by: AkMike

James I just looked at Vics link and if you're headed to Novosibirsk the weather is just under freezing. Not too bad at all. I wouldn't get a down parka for those temps.Check the forcast there.

James, in -25oC I was fine with a T-shirt, normal jumper, fleece and an ageing ski-jacket (hat and gloves essential). Wouldn't worry too much if I were you, especially since the blood should be flowing nicely if you're with Liuda Only one bit of me was a little nippy, but I don't think I'll reveal that here!!! Let's just say, jockey shorts let in a breeze or two LOL

I'd like to offer one piece of advice (if it's OK with you)... please, please, please don't feel that you have to go with something just because the cameras are there! As you know from my story, I spent a month with M in person in Russia over four trips, spoke every night for 1-2 hours for 4-months before and spent 7-weeks together in UK. There were still quite a few surprises!!! I don't wish to be in any way derogatory about your relationship, but you have only met each other once and you may yet see things you don't like... never ever let yourself believe that you "must" go through with it. At the end of the day, f**k the TV programme, it's your future!!!

PS. I'd also suggest that if you do start to have major doubts, tell the TV people to switch off and talk about it with Liuda in private... failing that, take a walk, pick up the phone and speak with a friend (a good one)!

Posted by: vic2012

Yes, but don't take the forecasts too litererally.

I looked at Omsk yesterday and it said Sunday would be the warmest day of the year at 12C. But today it says it will be 3C; a slight difference in just 24hours!

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks for the advice. As for Liuda,we chat for hours every evening and too be honest i dont have doubts because i have been with girls here and didnt know half of what i know of Liuda. As for filming when they were following me here i would not be led in any way and they can only show what i say and i said what i wanted. Some of what i said may be a bit soft to be honest and as im also a club adaoorman my mates will rip me to pieces but i believe that ant guy that does what we do here and goes to such lengths to find the right girl must be quite romantic.I spoke from the heart all through.I even read out emails i sent her.Not too personal but still.I told Liuda the same.We made it clear that we wanted time alone and thats what we will have .They need us not the other way around.Im sure things will be fine. Thanks Bing

Good luck James! What I meant was, you'll be under a lot of pressure (internally) to push through with everything because you know that a lot of people will see good & bad!! Sounds cool, don't worry about the weather and "Tally Ho!!!"

Posted by: JamesB

Unfortunatly for Sleepy Ruislip there are plenty Quaint pubs but ne night clubs.I work at a famous Aussie pub Called The Redback Tavern In Acton.Live Bands aussie beer and Lovely ladies. For some reason lots of Brazilians.Lol

Posted by: vic2012

I agree with Bing about being yourself and not worrying about the camera. You and I have similar age differences with our partners and I am sure that, this will be a particular subject of interest for the film makers. So be careful James and the very best of luck to you in your quest.

Posted by: JamesB

Thanks,to be honest at first when Liuda wrote i didnt take it too serious as she seemed so young, but she wore me down.I had the problem with the age thing and i can think of a hundred things that could go wrong. But im trusting my intuition and my faith in Liuda and going for it.You will see on the docu i was completly myself and made sure questions were appropriate.Lucy the produser was very good and i think it will go ok.Thanks
