Hi Bob,
Thanks for your concern. (and for that of Oz and Mark too) Just got caught up with some work. It's the one drawback of working at a heavy industrial. Sometimes stuff needs to happen at crap hours.

Now if I couldn't find time to talk to K, what chance does RMP have now. (-;

But, hopefully we are all caught up now. I can tell you my motivation to work this week is going to be very low!

It is absolutely pooring rain because of a cyclone that just crossed over Queensland and is re-intensifying on its way to the Northern Territory. If it keeps up we will have a flood here in my area (northern NSW), something that only happens every 4 or 5 years or so.

I feel for the Queenslanders that are just getting over the last episode.

Australian Federal Police have just left to help the Solomon Islanders regain control after a coupla days of rioting in the capitol of Honiara. While the rest of us feel nice and safe in our snug homes I wonder how these guys and girls feel.

Bob, I am communicating with a coupla ladies that seem legit and I have a contact through the RMP who has given my email out to others, but when I have some m ore time I have to write a better intro letter and pass it on.

All in all things seem to be going swimmingly ATM.

Have a HUGE correction, Australia is the LARGEST Island in the world it is NOT a continent, that is Australasia which also takes in New Zealand and West Papua and Papua New Guinea and if you wanna get really technical it also takes in part of Indonesia apart from West Papua. The Australian Continent starts at the Wallace Line and Finishes where New Zealand is split in 2 by continental shelfs. Take a look at an atlas that shows the continental shelves and you'll see that I is correctomundo.

From about:
"What is the world's largest island?
At 840,000 square miles (2,175,590 km2), Greenland is the world's largest island.
Although Australia also meets the definition of an island (a piece of land surrounded by water), it is large enough to be considered its own continent."

The definition of island, is: Is it possible to dective salt in air. You can at Greenland and NOT in Australia.
Your description about coninetal plats has nothing to do with a an Island. As you you say: look at a map and see how many plats there is aroudn world. like around India and thats not an Island.

Posted by: firemansam

I disagree... Everytime our helicopters fly they have to be washed because of the salt laden air. It's just that the island is so big, the salt doesn't always get to the middle! Still, the lakes in the middle of australia are salt laden too, especially when they dry out....
Salt, salt everywhere....

The definition of an island is

Island

A land area surrounded by water and remaining above sea level during high tide.

Even though we are a continent we still see ourselves as an Island

Sunshine, apart from where you so nicely leave the statement that "Although Australia also meets the definition of an Island" YOUR WRONG and so are your facts. I really don't know why you brought India into the equation but I'll finish it off for you. India is, now grab the atlas again and have a look along with me, on the same continental plate as Australia. Wow, what an interesting fact. Now, let me just add this little bit to your font of knowledge, Greenland is part of the North America continent (and this is regardles of who thinks they rule it) and Iceland is on 2 continental plates. These being the North American plate and the European plate.

Now as far as detecting salt in the air of Greenland I would doubt very much that salt can be detected everywhere in the air of Greenland but not having been there to do scientific tests to rebut this claim I cannot argue against it. I will however say that you can detect salt in the air ALL AROUND Australia. Note I said around, this means the COASTLINE. Now to have an Island you need an uninterupted COASTLINE, funnily enough Australia has the longest uninterupted coastline on the whole planet, why is this? it is because it doesn't stop. Unlike India, the US of A, Denmark, Russia etc who have all got borders that are landlocked. Thus their coastlines are interupted and cannot therefor, mathematically, be judged to be continuous.

Any other questions because I may have to PM you my tuition fees and let me just say I don't come cheaply.

Read above Jutman, you have made the statment yourself do you now go back on the knowledge you yourself have presented as FACT.

Australia is an Island, Australasia is the continent it is apart of. Australia is BIGGER than Greenland, therefor regardless of the "Wiki", Australia is the BIGGEST Island on the planet.

That will be $100 thanks.

Posted by: Jutman

What is you not understand.

Either you accept Australia is a continent or not.

if yes, Green ladn is the biggest Island in world. If not, Eurasia is the biggest island in world.

Either way, Australia is NOT the biggest in the world.

Australia is bigger than Greenland, you yourself have stated that Australia is an Island so you are having some difficulty with your own knowledge. Eurasia is is 2 continents and it is attached to freaken AFRICA and also INDIA which you brought into the conversation.

He!!He!! my personal opinion is that it is an island and the Bestest Isand in the world.

But I think we will all agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Take Care Mark

Posted by: Jutman

Try look at CIA's worldfactbook.

I have a collegue who is geograph. He has a nother definition of a continent. Several clima zones, which Australia has.

Yesterday I used a lot of time, study it. The best way to explain it.
Autralia is the mainland of the continent, just like in Europe with Germany, France, Spain, Italy and so on. The Islands like Britain, Iceland, Crete and so is like New Zealand, Solomons and New Guinea.

So okay. I have not been able to verify, the first definition I posted. And yes, the entire continent is Euraustralia.

Posted by: Jutman

Anyway I have always looked at Australia with admiration. That have ended since the country is populated with people of this forums caliber.

brian that is uncalled for
if your going to argue with aussies about australia then you have to expect to get some flack
from my school days & it could be wrong, an island is defined as a land mass surrounded by h2o

on that note i think this topic should end
please end this now people

Hi Jutman Australia is a continent but we Aussies call it an Island so no harm done mate.
We will all argue the point for a bit of fun as we are taught it is the biggest island in the world.

Posted by: andreas

Jutman don't hate Australia just because of this debate. If you were in the pub with these guys and were arguing the same point, you will find they will still be shouting you a beer and considering you as a good mate.

Ok now guys this is just plain silly, we all know what its really about, my Island falls just short of 10 so if anyone can beat that its thier shout.

Posted by: OzGuyLooking

Gentlemen, and that includes everyone in this debate, for me this thread has been ruined, it was started to show current events in the daily lives of the members of the RMP. This is something I am interested in thusmy reason for starting it.

Unfortunately the thread went awry simpy through a typical male thing like my lump of rock is bigger than your lump of rock. Well after a remark which I found offensive in its extreme generalisation I have PMed the other party concerned. I now ask that this thread either be forgotten by all or let it get back to its original purpose. For me however it is finsihed, I wont come back to it after reading such a distasteful (to me anyway) statement.

One last thing for my part of the NOW thread. It seems highjacking threads has become a cool thing to do. Spamming is spamming and it has gone silly. Sorry but I am thinking the RMP is loosing much of its positive aura because of the spam we are generating within.

OK OzGuy although its not news breaking stuff, I will do a now

Right this minute Iam sitting in my Office/Workshop which is a large 6 x 6.5 meter Garage which has been converted. I seem to spend most of my time in here so I have furnished it quite well with wall to wall carpet ceilings L shape lounge TV etc, in fact my house is always neat and tidy cause I just dont use it often, I love it in here.
I cancelled all my jobs for the day because I was up till about 4am this morning debating with a few guys on another Forum and I lost track of time, so Its been a lazy day for me. Helped my son fix his car, ordred Pizza and watched The Devils Advocate on DVD. I just finished chatting to a couple of friends in Russia who are having a three day break due to Victory Day (although I am told they had to work the weekend before this holiday to make up), so now I am pretty much done for the day and having my last cup of coffee and sneaking in a ciggie before I hit the sack.
So its been pretty uneventfull but all in all a good day

Oz guy I have been biting my lip for quite a while now. I disagree with Khashyar on this one thing. He believes that the open camraderie is a good thing, and so do I. But the ability for some to take a thread way off course and make it an open chat forum about things like beer astounds me. I am not associated with any other discussion forum where such allowance is given, and I moderate three of them. And the information is being diluted by all the "Cheers" and other "three word posts" that one really has to start digging to find pertinent information on Russia and things Russian.

I know, I know...I am always the turd in the punchbowl around here. But at least I understand how so many get to 500 posts so quickly.

Actually you can tell from the Baltika Ad campaigns. The strategists are all Brit.

What was this thread about anyway :-)

Anyone want to contribute to my mate value thread? I am about to get all serious and start posting census results otherwise.

i use to be on a few other forums to but now 95% here because it is the way it is most of the time its a nice place to spend time ,gain info & banter with friends.
sure posts wander & there are a lot of 1 liners but hey thats part of the attraction & why a lot of us are here
just my 2 cents

natasha who is a phys ed teacher & has a degree in sports med has made me rest it so much i,m going nuts & actually can,t wait to back to work & shock horror get away from inlaws remedies.
i,d love to go out & potter around in my workshop or climb into the boat & tinker but get threatened for even thinking about it.
oddly enough she has had me painting new mdf bookcase i built for her grrrr
never knew a material could continue to soak up paint like that stuff.
yer ok i,m a nong for not sealing it but i,m more into tinkering than painting lol.
after waisting a lot of paint i finaly asked for some advice at the paint shop & know now that this mdf needs a sealer befor undercoat, 1 thing water shouldn,t ever bother it with the amount of paint thats soaked into it lol
think i will use solid timber from now err something i know a bit about.
next she goes crook at me for being on the computer for so long ohh well suppose she has a point so i,m hoping visit to physo & then doc will have me back at work tomorrow

I understand your point and that is where Khashyar is coming from also. And that's cool with me. But when people are asking "Dude, where's my thread?", then maybe this should be discussed.

Banter is great as long as the person who started the thread doesn't mind it getting hijacked and sent down a completely different road. If I was asking for travel tips in Russia, and suddenly there were two pages about putting another shrimp on the barbee, I might get slightly miffed. I've been around here long enough to see it happen a few times.

Hey, what "Special K" wants, he gets. He's the grand poobah in these parts.

With or without banter...this forum still kicks all other forum's butt!

Bob,

Here is MY problem with all this banter.... it is in almost every thread!!! Sure, post these things to the thread that has 10 billion entries and keep going... have fun!!!! Post away all you want... I will ignore that thread...

But, the Aussie group has been doing this in almost every thread and it is making it tedious to actually follow anything anymore... I am getting a bit tired of all of it...

I am not saying any of you do not provide good information on a subject... but that you go WAY off base way to often... so PLEASE... limit you rambling to just ONE thread...

hi cheb
you are completely right, this site is by far & the best forum going, only other 1 stay in touch with is aussie 1 the rest i have dropped for reasons like recent dramas here with some odd birds.
when i first joined i came & went because didn,t at the time hold my interest. but interest level here is high now & i can only put that down to it being the way it is.
mate most aussie & a lot of other members injoy banter & haveing a bit of fun.
look at oz section & you,ll find the longest thread you have ever seen & it has never strayed to far from topic but we do have fun with it.
i,m sure some people get narked at there thread wandering but as most arn,t to long it isn,t hard to follow what has happened.
life is to short mate injoy

Well said Texas Proud, and far more eloquently than I ever could. But in all fairness to our Oz friends, this thread was actually started to discuss Australian domination of the board. So I guess we have nothing to complain about. And the good thing is that I have learned a lot about the priorities of our good friends from down under: beer and ladies.

Posted by: OzGuyLooking

I wasn't going to come back to this thread to post because of how it completely changed from what it was, but I have some points to make. Apart from I am not the happiest chappy on the planet at the moment.

1. The Aussie thread has gone way of topic so much so that another similar thread had been started recently.
2. There are many internationals who come into the aussie thread and make it a great place to be, BUT the material in that thread has leaked into others and quite frankly it shouldn't have. By all means keep it goping and I will still attend the converstions, but can we keep the chattyness in it.
3. I am guilty myself of going of topic but come on, these one liners all the time are rediculous, and have nothing to do with getting a Fiance Visa into Australia, or for that matter anything else that is being discussed in any thread they crop up in.
4. As a group of people we are also starting to argue and/or pick at stupid childish things. I never said this the other day because I didn't want Deccie's thread to get stuffed anymore than it aready had but, I didn't see anyone picking at anyone else yet someone told another person to stop picking at Deccie. Hey I know how Deccie felt and what his reasons were for not putting alot of stuff up in his thread but not everything he didn't say is in the Aussie thread either I would bet.
5. Khashyar, this is for you mate, please get a chat room going soon, I feel it would stop much of the one-liners that are basically conversations happining in threads. JMHO.
6. Common sense has gone out the window. This forum has to (again MHO) to have some sort of thing to stop idiots from getting in and starting up crap. I am a member of other forums and when crap started in them, actually the crap was from Russia about RW's and the forum was an automotive one) the people are blocked instantly. So much so that a database of IP's is set up so that all IP's in a certain group/range are blocked from access to the forum because they are known spammers/trolls etc.
7. I really arc up when I see things that are not right (in my mind anyway). I try to present things, both knowledge and opinions, in a respectful fashion, albiet sometimes with some lighthearted jibes (that are probably misunderstood and misconstrued). Yet the tone of some postings is just off. I would think if you are not willing to talk to your wife/ mother/ parents/ sister/ boss etc. in this fashion then why should anyone else take what people dish out here.

Now can the crap stop and we get back to why we are all supposed to be here for.

Being the person who started this thread I know why it was started, and obviously some people aren't reading what I said only yesterday. All fairnessto everyone here this thread is called now for a reason and that is what is happening now in peoples lives.

Cheb you know nothing of my priorities so another generalisation has been made that is all encompasing.

For those of you who I have regular contact with I'll PM you soon, to the rest I wish you well and hope your dreams and desires are fulfilled. I am thinking I shall leave the RMP alone for a while and see if I feel better about it soon, the argueing in this thread in a persiod of not even 24 hours has indicated to me that some people have used it to say things that should have been said in other places and probably by PM, or at least among the moderators.

Posted by: OzGuyLooking

Here's a question for you guys. Why if you have felt so strongly for an apparently good period of time didn't you bring up your frustrations in the thread that was aimed at you American guys having your say. Why on earth did you see fit to wait till someone else makes a comment? Nothing has changed for better or worse in the RMP since a thread was posted giving you an opportunity to voice your opinions, yet didn't take it until now in a completely different thread!!! This is the sort of stuff I am talking about. Use your initiative and make a move on your own, I asked for this thread to be let die (being the person who started it I kinda feel I have this right, I may not but I have the feeling I do) yet people come in and vent their anger when they have already been given the chance to do that in another place.

Texas I have to say I agree with your comment.

It adds too much fluff to find the real value here.

WOW, I'm stunned OGL! What was it that set you off so? There is absolutely nothing said in this thread that should make you want to leave this forum. Is it because two Texans said that you Aussies were chatty? Is it because we said you guys post a lot about women and beer? Good grief!!! I'd really like to know what was posted that hurt your feelings so much.

I did go back and read the first dozen posts and what I wrote stands. And it is only an opinion...that's all. But for crying out loud guys, don't get all pissed off and want to take the bat and ball, and go home. You will find where AKMike said he loves to read your banter. There are far too many people who learn much about your culture from reading what you write and the way you interact with other people. So why not keep writing and teaching people the Aussie way?

I've learned tons about you guys just by the way you have reacted to my posts. Maybe I have been watching too much Crocodile Dundee.

I officially apologize to all Aussies on this thread, and will post on this thread or any other of yours no more.

Posted by: OzGuyLooking

Cheb you made an all encompasing statement that has no reflection on real Australian culture. I am just tired of how the RMP is developing and the absolutley stupid arguements that are developing. Yes I know I have been a art of them, but lets get some perspective here. What really set me off with this is a stupid arguement about islands and how it developed into "I have given proof but I don't believe what I have said so I will get more proof to prove myself right". The arguement was nonsense and purile to the extreme. No wonder we have spammers coming into the RMP when we are spamming each other just to get a bite.

I said I would leave the RMP alone for a while, meaning I wasn't going to post because I feel that apart from social, historical or similar knowledge I have nothing to contribute at this time. Then you made the all encompasing statement. Well I home brew but I would be lucky to have up to 2 dozen beers a year and I can't stand other fermented drinks. If I was as partial to women as you seem to think us aussies are I would be learing at them in a pub while was drinking my 2 dozen beers at once. Your statement got my goat just like so many other generalisations. RBS got booted for similar albeit more extreme things.

Have your opinions about why the thread was started, I know why I started it and I have explained it to you. It just so happened that at the time it was started the events posted was what was happening at the NOW it was posted. Did you also read about the daily happenings or are you just taking a smidgen of posts to form an incorrect opinion?

Now you said about taking my ball and running, you obviously misunderstood what my intentions were, but you yourself are staying away from any post we are a part of because you misunderstood my intentions. The choice is yours Cheb, I am not going to try and disuade you from it. I was going to read but not post, email and not PM, you know just not use the RMP as a social outlet and a means of communication with anyone here, I wasn't running I was changing my means of comunication with my friends. I hope you understand me now. I also hope you continue to take part in all parts of the RMP not just stay out of some because you don't want to be in a thread some aussies are a part of.

I feel I have answered your questions, if not please feel free to PM me. I don't want to continue what has been an inappropriate discusion for all the world to see. I asked for the thread to die out everyone else come in after that with their felings about how us aussies and our chattines has impacted the RMP, and not one of you said it was a good learning experience, infact it was quite the opposite.

So anyone please feel free to PM me, I will be PMing a few of you.

Hey guys,

You got me wrong... I have nothing against you guys from Oz... When I was living London I knew a good number of Aussies and like every one I ever met... my comment was not meant to be derogatory at all... so do not read that into it..

Also, I have a nephew that is living in Oz, has two kids that are living there... and a NZ wife.. (yes, I know NZ is not Oz... but to us Yanks {and us Texans do not like being called Yanks} you are the same country I got hit with that one when I said it to my GF from NZ

Well, back to the subject... It is only the many many one liners that you banter back and forth... I do not want you to stop at all.. just do it in one or two posts... have fun... and I do know that some threads will stray a bit.. it always does.. just try and keep it short.. if it does, move it to the Oz thread and keep it going...

But if you feel insulted and want to leave... I do not know why..

Good luck to you all

NOW.
19:32
Raining outside as it has been for the last 5 days.
3rd can of Bulleit Bourbon is warming my innards...
Deborah Conway is crooning in the background.....

Today I am a daisy
Tomorrow I will be the chain holding up your heart
Today I am a waitress but tomorrow I could be an astronaut
Flying to the moon, playing amongst the stars
Seeing the galaxy from inside a jar
Today I am a sea-shell
Tomorrow I will be the ocean roaring in your ear
Today I am your daughter
Tomorrow I will make your disappointments disappear
And you will come fly with me
We will play leap frog through the years
And life will be elegant
We can chase away the tears
Goodbye goodbye
Today will be tomorrow
Goodbye goodbye
Tomorrow's almost here
Goodbye goodbye
Today will be tomorrow
Goodbye goodbye
Something might be clear
Today I am a daisy
Tomorrow I will be Vincent's sunflowers,
Claude's lilies anything I want
Today I am a waitress but tomorrow well I might be an astronaut
I will be bathed in love
I will be soaking in tenderness
And you will be standing there
The one who loves me best

This is my now....
