Using your cell phone in FSI

Do most of you use your cell phone in the FSU when visiting there? How do you do this? Do you use your existing service like T-mobile or do you get a temporary service over there? I know I need a cell phone that has the correct BW. Mine is 900MHz.

I know most of the phones in my area would not work over there. But the types that use phone cards I believe work.

I am going to rent one when I get there and not worry about it too much.

T-mobile works in Russia but it is $4.99 a minute I believe. You might have to activate the international option before you leave. If you have a blackberry on T-mobile you should be able to get internet and email as part of your data package for no extra charge (or maybe an extra $5/month--can't remember).

For phone calls, a better way to go is to get a SIM card with a local number when you are there. You can buy prepaid SIM cards for $10, $20, $50,.... That way local people can call you without paying long distance. However, with a local number if you want to call the U.S., it will cost a lot and eat up your prepaid card very quickly.

Cool, sounds like the pre-paid SIM card is the way to go. Guess you get them at just about any kiosk or small store? Thanks again. Scott
