Russian Women's take on "Brokeback Mountain" (gay cowboy love story)

Hi Everyone,

Lena and I went to see "Brokeback Mountain," which is a gay cowboy love story set in 1963 Wyoming.

I was curious as to how Lena would feel about the film, as well as of a love story between two men.

She actually found the story fairly interesting, especially the fact that the two men maintained a relationship with one another, even though they both were married to women and had children.

Lena mentioned that she did not think that it was fair to the wives that the men kept a secret relationship, and that they should have been honest with their wives.

When Lena lived in Belarus, she had virtually no exposure at all to homosexuality. But since having lived in Los Angeles for the past 3 years, Lena has worked with some gay co-workers, as well as has seen gays and lesbians assimilated in society and open about their homosexuality here in L.A.

She also mentioned that she thought the film would not do well in Belarus, because of the conservative attitudes towards gays there.

I personally thought that the film might be shown in Moscow, since there is a gay community there. (I know that the film was banned in China and the Middle East, but I have not heard anything about the film being banned in Russia.)

Copies to download online are already circulating in Russia.
How they do it I do not know.

I saw it and cried like my first broken heart.

It was so sad, but so real.

Too many men marrry anyway for all the social and family reasons, and the results are too often bitter sweet, just like the movie tells it.

The 60s were a horrible time for gays.
To set the time line there is a big part of this movies magic.
And Wyoming is so fantastic.

Many gay rights groups don't like the sad ending and suggest it was not a positive profile on film.

I feel the movie shows how deeply two people can be in love despite overwhelming odds, and how that love effects their entire lives.

It gets my vote for best picture.
I re-read this is a forum for Russian women.
This was an oversight to post here. I will be more careful.
