Hello, I am new to the forums here,

I am currently an Aemrican and I have met a woman fron Ukraine (in the city I mentioned in the subject of this message, and I wish to marry her in Ukraine and live there with her and her family.

When she went to the local consulate and asked about this, they told her that AFTER we were married, I could not live with her in the Ukraine for 2 years. I thought this sounded wrong so I called the Embassy in San Francisco. They weren't able to help much, but they did tell me that I can visit there without a visa but if I stay past 90 days, I must have some sort of Visa.

They also told me about a multi-entrance visa that was good for up to 5 years. So I could live there until I became a citizen. The only additional thing was to go to the Police Station after 5 months and Register.

What information is true? what will I need? Can I really go and live with her right now??

Thank you, any and all, who reply.

Jory

I asked a Scottish man living in Ukraine this question and he said there's no problem with the 90 day thing. All you do is take a trip into Russia once every 90 days, get a stamp on your passport and you're good for another 90 days. I'm not 100% sure if this is true, but it's a thought. Keep us posted on this info. I, for one am very interested in how this works out.

As a quick update to this thread...

I've just returned from a 7 month stay in Ukraine and had my passport stamped at the border to Moldova, so it looks like I left by car. It cost quite a bit to do it this way, due to me being as far away from this border as you can get (Kerch). I had stayed past my 90 days and this border control is the only one that's not hooked up to the computer system yet. I was able to get my passport "fixed" here. I believe this is going to change this month and they are going computerised, so don't stay past your 90 days guys!

Next time, this is the way...

Get a visitors visa to Russia, then the last ferry to Russia across the Kerch strait (about £20 return). Return on the next ferry, which is a few hours later. The reason for the last ferry is that it gets you there late at night, so the return is the following day. Probably not a problem, but I think it looks better on the passport if the return date is not the same as the leavng date. Simple, fast and cheap if you are in the Crimea.

Interesting thread....

I got my 5 year visa BEFORE they got rid of the visa requirements.... so I guess if I meet someone from the Ukraine I am good to go!!!

If that is all you need to get, it is not that hard... apply and send it the the consolate and they will put it in your passport..
