street parties/parades

I have some Russian friends who live in the Tampa, FL area and we went to a celebration in Tampa called Gasparilla (which is Tampa's version of a street party/parade)
Anyway I brought my digital camera for them so they could take pictures to send back to families in Russia and they took 84 pictures in 20 mins. LOL (you can see the pictures here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/corneoo/my_photos )

The part that has me doing a hhmm is: Parades like this are not common in Russia? Any input please.
