Please pardon my newbie question. I have been corresponding with a woman in Nizhnevartovsk who emails me from an internet cafe. I am curious about how much that sort of thing costs. I do not want to ask her the rude question. Can any of you tell me the typical cost of using an internet cafe in Russia?
Thanks,
Dave1

Here's a bill I had in Kharkov, Dave, was for about 3/4 of an hour.
It works out to roughly $1 an hour.

A US Dollar, even Two sounds very cheap to use the Internet away from home. BUT, if the incomes of say, average people in the outlying areas are $100-200 US, then a few hours on the net adds up to a substantial investment. I know my "friend" in Yaransk only writes aboyut every 3 days or so and stil I think maybe that's a financial drain..............

hi dave & welcom to rmp.
my wife said ( comes from barnaul siberia) for her to receive my e mail & write 1 back cost about 30 rubles (around 1 hour use) or if your girl has the use of a home pc not on the net & can write her letter & then put it on a floppy to use at inter/cafe about 10 rubles.
28 rubles is about $1, you need to understand this can be a lot for average working person in russia
cheers bob

Many of us are perhaps spoiled to low cost Internet access. While certainly I would like to recieve more e-mails and more frequently from my Russian lady friend, I am going to realize that it is not so simple for her. So, if I receive an e-mail very 3-4 days, which is the norm for her... I shall be patient.

3-4 days isn't too bad. My 'girlfriend' uses an Agency to translate our letters and I usually hear from her twice a week. She has a demanding job and family commitments so this is fine with me.
An ideal situation is if she had a home PC. Then again, I have no idea how much Internet access will cost per month.
I guess one thing you could do is to buy her a PC when you go to visit her. ( that is when you feel your relationship is serious and could lead to marriage ).
