Have just learnt that you can only take two cameras into Ukraine/Russia?
Has anyone taken more cameras into the country?

That's news to me. I have always taken in three cameras and two digital camcorders. When was this law passed?

I have never been asked about cameras when visiting Ukraine.
You have to look for signs saying that no photography is allowed,
Airport, Military places and the like. I have a camera phone too, and have never been questioned about that either.

Maybe this was the case years ago, and now relaxed?

Don't worry about it, Just be careful where you take photos!

Ukraine seemed very restrictive on where photo's can be taken. You can take more than two unless it changed since August. You can only add one extra as a carry on item, maybe you interpreted this wrong?

Airport security in Minsk gave me permission to take pictures of Minsk-2 airport after asking, back in 1995. But I am not sure if it is now allowed, since many of the laws in Belarus have changed since then.

In when the USSR was in existence, not only were photos prohibited at airports and military installations, but also at radio/TV stations as well. Unsure about the status of broadcast facilities, but most likely doesn't apply now.

When in doubt, always ask.

If I have time at work to do so, I will check TIMATIC--the system used by airlines/agencies for documentation/customs regulations.....then post the listings soon........

I remember when I was walking down the main street in Kiev (K-street) one day, there was people standing around watching a couple of policemen trying to prevent some guys from filming in the street. Don't really know why they were doing this, I just assumed that they needed a permit of some kind. I didn't hang around incase trouble flared.

Checked the regulations for entry into Russia and Belarus, as well as Ukraine, and there is nothing said about limits. Just that if you have a video camera, you can bring it in without a permit as long it is for non-commercial use, and that you declare it, and bring it out of the country when you leave.

I was in Moscow in December 2004 and was taking pics of the National Hotel just after the bomb blast there. The militsia swarmed me like dogs to a T-bone when they saw me video taping. It is amazing how much Russian you can remember when an automatic weapon is pointed at you.
