i am visiting Moscow in February. One of her co-workers is an english translator. We don't know what the going rate is. Does anyone have an idea about what we should offer her? Any guidelines, etc are appreciated also.

I think in Moscow its about $10 an hour, but I might be wrong, I was quoted $5 an hour in Kharkov.

When I was in Moscow in 2003 and 2004 The rates I was charged were $10 per hour for the 1st 2 hours, then $5 per hour for more than 2 hours plus her transportation and food.

The Agency I am with charges $50 a day or $8 per hour. Guess these rates are reasonable. You could also invest in a pocket language translator to reduce the hours you will pay for an interprter.

H.H. What agency is that if you do not mind?

I am going in April/May to see my GF who lives just south of Moscow (Zhukovsky) and she speaks very little English and I speak very little Russian thus I need to hire a translator for at least part of each day.

I told her if need be we can draw picture!!!! It could be fun!!!!

To Bad my Phone translater did not work for $10 an hour.

This Agency only covers one town 'Chernivtsy' in the Ukraine. It isn't a 'National' one.
Try this site http://freepersonals.ru as it also has a forum which will give you help with translation. Also you can purchase actual 'voice' electronic translators. Check them out on eBay!
