Russia to Close Canal as Toxic Spill Nears, China Promises Help

Beijing promised to send filtering materials to Russia, where residents stocked up on bottled water as a chemical spill continued down China's Songhua River. Russia's monitoring officials said they would close a canal near Khabarovsk to prevent benzene flowing into the Amur River.
