Hi Bob,

I can understand how losing thoughts that you have typed can be frustrating. I really don't know why you are experiencing the problems that you are having...

Until we can figure out what the issue is, perhaps it is best if you type your message in WordPad, MS Word or Notepad, and the copy and paste it into the forum message window...

Did you already try to delete your cookies from your internet expolorer window?

I am going to seperate this into another thread so that others who might have the same issue (or who can suggest a solution) can add their comments.

Khashyar

Posted by: deccie

Two things I can suggest here bob if it happens again..

1. Try Firefox instead of Internet explorer...

2. When it fails for you, try hitting the back button in your browser a couple of times and see if you can get back to your post text. DO NOT TRY TO SUBMIT AGAIN... Then highlight the text, right click and copy to your clipboard. Log back into the bulletin board, go back to the topic and try to re-post. I know this is painfull - it's only a work around - but it might save your text.

Posted by: KyDale

I feel your pain Bob, had the same problem a few times! I'll open Word, type a reply, select all text (Ctrl+A), cut and then paste into a reply window. For such an intricate and outstanding website, this is a small annoyance! Not to mention content for price can't be beat . Unless you're dealing with Lep... $25 for a dance because I'm American...

thanks guys but i have an idea it might just be another program i,m running ( fingers crossed) since i,v turned it off when posting i have been ok.
funny it only happens on this list.
deccie i got around problem a couple of times via the back button but dosn,t always work.
dale i,m not into danceing with guys so you & lep will have to scam some other bloke.
i like danceing with natasha & she cost me bloody sight more than either of you 2 because she russian & worth it lol

Posted by: bobjf

g/day mate it,s not so much painful loseing the text, just that it never rewrites the same way the second time.
i find your first thoughts will change a little when rewritten (not always a bad thing)but were you might of told a story you tend to summerise second time & lose a lot of what you wanted to convey.
i spent a conciderable amount of time writeing first part of our adventure a while ago only to have it dissapear on submition & it is obvious that i havn,t tried again.
other night i wanted to get involved with you & ozguy re wildlife, same thing happened.
start to think why bother
cheers bob

Hi All

yes i've also had the same problems occasionally, everything freezes when i press the submit or preview button, cant use any of the workarounds only reboot and as bobjf says its never the same the second time around and even worse the third !!!!, keyboard stops working or mouse, but only on the forum it's not happening on any other program ???

John

Posted by: KyDale

Bob,

If I may ask, what program was it? May help the few of us having the problem!

As far as Lep LOL, just wanted to see an Irish man dance... figured after half a dozen Guiness he'd be on the table LOL.

Hi guys...

Sorry that you are experiencing the login or screen freeze issue.

I personally have not experienced that, but it sounds frustrating if it happens to you.

I can try to investigate the issue...

For anyone who might be experiencing the problem:

Can you please answer a few questions for me so that I can try to understand the issue better...

1) describe exactly what is happening (does your screen freeze, does the computer say that you have an invalid thread when posting, are you told that you are not logged in when posting. Please descrive your issue in detail).

2) Does this happen on any other websites, or are you sure that it definitely ONLY occurs in the forum?

3) How fast is your computer (what is the speed of your CPU-- for example, 1.2 Mgz, etc.)

4) What is the web browser that you are using (Internet Explorer 6, Firefox, Netscape, etc)

5) What is the internet company that you are using (AOL, SBCYahoo, etc)

6) what is the speed of your internet connection (DSL, 56k modem, cable , etc.)

and 7), how often does the issue occur? (once a week, once a month, etc...)

I will do my best to try to understand what the issue is.

Khashyar

P.S... I am using Mozilla Firefox as my browser, and don't experience freezing issues at all.

Posted by: J60

Hi Khashyar,

1, the screen freezes, with intermitent loss of the mouse and keyboard,

2,only on the forum

3, 2.6 mgz

4, IE

5, NTL

6, cable

Posted by: Khashyar

Thanks, John...

Let me add to the questionairre...

7) How often does the issue happen?

Khashyar

Posted by: Khashyar

O.K...

I replaced a file that I am hoping will fix this issue....

Please let me know, over the next few days, if you are still experiencing the same issue.

The old file that I replaced still might be "cached" on the internet for a day or so (or a few hours), so the issue may occur until the internet caching has expired...

But, please let me know if you experience the issue again.

Thanks for your help in understanding what the issue is....

Khashyar

Posted by: Khashyar

Hi Bob,

I believe that this "fix" that I applied should fix the freezing issue...

Tell me if you still have the issue where you are signed in, open a reply window in a message, type a message, and then are told that you are not logged in.

Khashyar

Posted by: KyDale

I click on the "Quick reply to this message" button (bottom right next to "Quote"). I then begin to type a message. I will leave this reply open for a duration as I may read up the thread to make sure of facts, work on another computer, answer a phone etc. Once done I will click on the "Post Quick Reply" button at the bottom of the screen. I am then redirected to a page that says I must log in again and all I've typed is lost . It's happened to me 3 or 4 times before I started using the work around.

This has only happened to me on this forum, but it is the only forum I belong to.

1.4 Ghz AMD Duron processor

IE 6 fully updated.

It has happened to me on AOL as well as a fiber optic T-1 Line going through the University of Louisville.

Dial up on AOL account. UofL bandwidth is pretty open LOL.

It seems to occur anytime I take a while to submit the message, say over 10 to 15 minutes. Many times I'll have Yahoo running in the back and going back and forth to PMs.

I simply attributed this to the different programs I use to fight spyware. Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AOL's spyware program and Microsoft's Beta spyware program.

I've left this open for about 15 minutes now. I've responed to PMs. I'm going to copy this in case it happens again to post, but if it goes through the problem seems resolved, at least for me. Thank you Khashyar. Thank you also for the forum and all the hard work on the part of Lena and yourself!!!

Dale

Posted by: J60

Hi Khashyar,

My problem was the same as KyDale's with the freeze, a long post or Pm, and about the same time scale,
the keyboard and mouse problem mostly when changing pages, or going to the post reply page,

Thanks Khashyar i will also try firefox, chrismc also suggested this a couple of weeks ago after i mentioned that after writing a Pm everything froze,

john

Posted by: Khashyar

Hi guys...

If I understand correctly, after I applied the fix this morning, the issue so far is resolved for Dale....

How about for everyone else?

Are you still experiencing the same issue?

Khashyar

Posted by: bobjf

Hi Bob,

Is the posting issue resolved for you after I applied the sofware "fix"?

Is there anyone else still experiencing the issue?

Khashyar

Posted by: J60

Hi Khashyar,

it seems okay with regards to the freezing and can now submit okay, but i still have the problem with mouse and keyboard suddenly stop working,

John

Hi Bob,

Joiner and carpenter, worked for a firm in glebe (display construction) and another near whale beach fitting out fiberglass yachts, also a few jobs out side of my trade, whatever was needed to pay my way, at dairy farmers in ultimo and jeldi rugs in punchbowl, Mount Isa and at the shipyards in wyhalla,
and thats probably more than you wanted to know

John

extra dry mmm we have one its called sarsons !!!!!

I have noticed a rather unusual problem.

Sometimes when a page loads, the first post on the page is missing the boarders (Where the date, time and post number are located).

I've also had other times when the text doesn't load AT ALL!

Just a page with the headers (e.g.- General Discussion/Conversations) and the footer (e.g.- forum jump).

If I reload the page it corrects the problem but I am curious as to the cause of the initial problem. It happens occasionally.

previt khashyar.
mate i,m not sure yet as i,m still useing quick reply & had even 1 of those do it yesterday.
i,ll try a couple of short posts & see what happens
bob

Posted by: OzGuyLooking

Well it did it to me today.

Pentium 4, 2 ghz
Firefox, up to date.
Windows Xp up to date.

Also on firefox it needs to load the pages twice sometimes 3 times before you can read or respond to anything.

Posted by: searcher

I forgot to mention my system configuration:

Apple Mac Mini (G4/1.42Ghz/1GB RAM) and iBook (G4/933MHz/384MB RAM)

Browsers: Safari and Firefox

I mention this because it seems to happen to members regardless of their Operating System, Memory, Speed or Browser.

Hi guys...

Thanks for posting your experiences.

One thing that I would like everyone to try (who is experiencing the logout issue)....

I changed the NAME of the RMP English forum "cookie," this summer. So, if you have not cleared your cookied from your computer since the spring, then you could experience logout problems.

Please try to delete your internet cookies, and then tell me if that affects the issue...

What's odd, is that I do not experience any of these logout problems at all on my home computer (or on my laptop). But, I want to understand and resolve why a few of you are experiencing the issue.

So guys, please clear your internet cookies, and tell me whether the logout issue is resolved for you.

Khashyar

P.S....

Instructions for clearing your internet cookies (for MS Internet Explorer)

Quote:

1) on the top of your Internet Browser window, click on "Tools"

2) Click on "Internet Options"

3) Click on "Delete Cookies"

4) Click on "OK" when asked if you want to delete all of the cookies

5) Finally, Click "OK" at the bottom of the Internet Options window to close it

Please let me know if this resolves the logout issue for you.

Posted by: Khashyar

BradIL called me today, and he told me that he experiences the logout issue on his work computer, but never on his home computer, so this is why I would like to rule out any issues with internet cookies or other issues that could be related to a computer.

Khashyar

Posted by: Khashyar

Hi Everyone,

I just created a poll in this thread, so that I can get a sense of how many members are experiencing the freezing and logout posting issues.

Please cast your vote.
