What is the best way to send a letter from the USA

Would sending by FEDx or US Post, I was planning on sending a letter to a gal FEDx, but I want to make sure I am not barking up the wrong tree.

Edit; Oh I was wondering do I need to add extra postage also?

Hello.... as i am sure you already have her full address, simply go to the post office, and they will tell you the postage. depending on where you send the letter, it can take between 2-3 weeks for her to recieve, at least that has been my experience. fed-ex will be much faster unless it is held in customs, and is more expensive. the last time i used fed-ex, they told me 5 days, but customs held it up, and it arrived in 12 days. i hope this helps.

Check with FedEx (on the website) about how long it will take to go to the place your are sending your letter to. I checked, and ended up going with DSL--a litle cheaper and much faster for this particular destination in Russia. When it was delivered, I got a receipt with a signature on it. Overall, had no problems. Aparently DSL serves more cities in Russia than FedEx.

FWIW, I've had a number of letters by US Post and/or Russian mail get lost. If they don't get lost, they've been taking about 3-4 weeks.

This may sound like a stupid question but did you address the letter/package in English or Russian?

I have sent many letter and packages USPS certified mail and all arrived with no problems and all were written in English Takes about 2 -3 weeks for Moscow Region.....

Unless your GF lives in a major city FedEx and DSL will not serve it. My GF lives in Subburb of Moscow and Fedex will not deliver there.

For the past two years, we have sent small packages (less than 5 lbs) via USPS Air Mail. All have arrived safely to Tver in 2-3 weeks time.

For packages over 20 lbs, we have used MEEST. Sea shipping is about 8 weeks, air is about 4 weeks.

My wife addresses the packages in Russian Cyrillic, with the country written in English as "RUSSIA".

I have sent cards via USPS to Moscow and Kiev. All have arrived in about three weeks. Can't beat the price.

I've used a particular website several times to send flowers to my gal in
Mogilev, Belarus (with an attached card translated into Russian by them),
all with good results. If there's no objection to posting it, I will, otherwise
you can drop me a private message and I'll send it to you.
