Saddam in Belarus?

I know this is somewhat off topic but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know where the "report" that Saddam Hussein, the former ? of Iraq, is hiding in Belarus comes from? It seems when mention is made he may not be in Iraq that Belarus is reportedly where he fled. How long has this report been around? Anyone know the source? What do they say in the Belarus media about this report? Just curious (as always, huh?) . Thanks.

I don't know where the report came from, but most think he is still in Iraq. Saddam is very much a homeboy, and not likely to leave Iraq. Reports suggest he is in or near his home town, which is also where the Bath (sp?) party he formed has it's greatest number of supporters, and where 10 of his bodyguards were recently caught/killed.

I think he is still in Iraq too and I agree he is a "homeboy" probably hiding in or around Tikrit. I am a "news hound" and I keep hearing about the remote possibility that he's in Belarus and I'm wondering about the source of the report. I must have missed a report from some where...must have been on the RMP Board! I must admit from what I have learned about the government of Belarus that it could be a possibility.

Lena had read in some Russian online newspaper that Saddam was or might be in Belarus...

I think that the Belarusian President would be absolutely stupid to do anything like this (and afraid to), so I believe that this does not have a very good chance of being true.

Also... I am sure that the U.S. govt. has good ways of discovering if this were true, and if it were, the U.S. would have no quams about publically chastizing and criticizing the Belarusian govt. since the U.S. has criticized the Belarusian govt. on other issues like unfair elections.
