Second-seeded Nathalie Dechy of France defeated Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus 6-3, 6-1 Tuesday to move into the second round of the Gaz de France Stars. Third-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy also advanced, beating Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-3, 6-4. In other news, Silvia Farina Elia, the highest-ranked Italian female tennis player in history, retired from tennis after losing in the first round.
