Shipping Jewelry

I kinda goofed. I bought some jewelry, thinking I would ship it with some other things via FedEx or DHL. I went to both websites, and apparently I cannot ship jewelry to Russia. Does anyone know if there are other ways to safely do this?

Thanks in advance for you wonderful advice!

I have made enquiries into doing this myself in the past. I am afraid to tell you that no one will ship jewelry for you. Either by post or courier. The problem is theft and insurance cover. You will just have to take it yourself.

Thanks GB. Not the answer I was hoping for, but thanks nonetheless.

I ship everything via USPS Registered Mail, just don't declare it, for example i put bunch of stuff in a package, but in the declaration i state "clothes". It has worked for 3 years so far

Just don't expect it to get delivered even with USPS mail. It seems to vanish when it is inspected at customs on the other end. Things coming out do alot better.

I shipped a necklace along with a couple of cards in May 05 using the USPS. It took about 6 weeks to get there and I feel lucky that it did make it in one piece. I didn't declare the necklace so I guess the postal authorities didn't feel the need to check it. But I don't think that I will tempt fate again by sending more..I will just wait to go there and take it in person.

If you register the package it only takes two weeks and it is very safe from my experience, i shipped expensive clothes, jewlery, cosmetics, vitamins, cds, foods, etc, not one thing has vanished so far and everything got there within two weeks...the trick is to get the package registered

I have read some posts in the Russian Language forum that report pretty much the same thing. It seems that usps (either global express or certified mail) seems to work reliably. Some of the women there have received (or sent) jewelry shipped from the U.S. using this method. Here are a couple of these posts (machine translated) from them:

=============================================
I tell about the experience. I have sent to Russia already likely посылок 10. Never nothing vanished, all reached for 5-6 days. I send always Global Express Mail. Not cheaply, but it is reliable. Sent all: cosmetics, whisky-бэйлисы-dear cognacs, toys, clothes... Last time in general the impudence was: has sent the digital camera and a gold chain. Thought, will filch, all the week long shivered. Anything, all is has reached.

Now the most important: I never write in the customs declaration, that inside actually. Has solved, that there is nothing to lead into customs officers a temptation. That is why I write any dregs of type of a photo, a framework for photos, books, kitchen towels... In general, on what will not covet.
==============================================
Utah, I constantly send посылки with clothes, cosmetics, jewels Registered Mail while all reached and is fast, for 2 weeks

I think I'll give it a go.

Thanks,
guy
