Which Instant Messenger Do/Would You Use?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: searcher

Which one do you or would you use?

Please take the poll and tell me about you likes and dislikes about certain messengers.

I was think of what would be good for web cast (such as for our gathering we had) or for group meetings/conferences/chats.

Tell me your suggestions and what do you think is/are its advantage(s).

Hi Searcher...

I have prefered Yahoo Instant Messenger...

I think that it has great features like webcam functions, mic features, a good who's online featues, and easy to read layout....

Regarding MS Messenger-- I absolutely don't like the fact that Windows automatically signs you in if you use Outlook or Outlook Express... I can't find a way to stop this automatic sign in, and I resent MS for this...

But, I have always found Yahoo Messenger easy to use, and reliable.

We used yahoo much in the past. The feature I liked most was that you could see if someone on your buddy list was signed on. We often would see one of my wifes friends online and begin speaking with her.

MSN Messenger for me.
I don't know about the outlook connection as most folks I know don't use Outlook because of all the flaws and back doors that Microsoft will NEVER fix.
If you're still using Outlook, a person has nobody to blame but themselves when their computer goes down.

The only thing I don't like about Messenger is it's total lack of accurate search feature which I mentioned on another thread. The plus side is if you can't be found by anyone other than those you want, there's less problem with spam.

Registering for a passport is no a big deal and connection speed seems to be great any time I'm on it...

Just an opinion..

Yahoo seems fine but sometimes it crashes when I have the web cam on.

I'm using a Macintosh and iChat works great but I don't use it often because it seems everyone I know uses MSN or ICQ and a few on Yahoo.

I would like to find out what most of us are using and find some good choices that most of us can use with web cast or conversations.

MSN doesn't support web cams on the Macintosh so I use Mercury if I need to use my web cam on the MSN network.

I like the speed and reliability of ICQ but it also doesn't support web cams on the Macintosh and there seems to be some security issues but I can't say this for certain just a few things I have noticed that seemed odd....

Why use only one when you can run all of them at once with a single program?
Trillian

So it seems AOL, ICQ, Yahoo & MSN are the favourites but all ran through Trillian!

Does Trillian run on a Macintosh too?

Posted by: Leprechaun

No Trillian does not work on mac =o/
There was talk a few years ago but im not sure what happend to that idea.

I use AOL/AIM simply because AOL is my current service provider. My preference has always been yahoo. It feels there are more options available with yahoo than AOL, or it could be they are just much simpler to access. Also AOL is bad about getting into all kinds of other files with a problem to remove the program. I'll wipe my computer and start over when I switch providers. Can't beat AOL for parental controls and child friendly environment "IN MY OPINION!". I know Jeff OBX2005 has started using Trillian. From his initial thoughts he really liked it, but I notice when he logs in, Yahoo will show him logging in and out several times. Not sure what causes this. I do know there are several anti-yahoo sites that teach how to scan proxy servers for users, passwords, and other hacking garbage. Please make sure you password is not your user name or a series of letters, numbers, or symbols! Use something from each category to protect your password!
