American, let me tell you, it's all just a matter of taste...some people have had bad experiences with american women in the past, so they decide to look elsewhere, for some it might be an adventure, just think of it! i can personally tell you that i simply CANT stand russian men in their majority, but it doesnt mean that other russian women dont like them...again, its personal experience and taste...and as far as russian women getting americanized here in the USA, i cant say the same about myself...im still the same russian girl i used to be, i would prefer to live in an apartment, i like organic food and hate fast food, i never watch american television and read alot of classical literature...i like this country and respect its people but i want to preserve my own identity

Not many sheep in VT, but we have our fair share of cows (both 2 and 4 hoofed variety). As you are living in Boston (I'll assume from your profile), you need to remember that living and loving in a large metro area is a bit different than in the less densely populated areas. It's a matter of numbers.

There are far fewer 'acceptable' women per square mile once you get out of the major population areas on the east coast (Boston, NYC to Washington DC, LA & SF, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta). You need to travel to get to them, then one of you need to be willing to move once you find them.

Now, how do find a good one willing to move? After all, many of the good ones are already married (having found good men while they were younger). You need to sift through the drunks and the druggies, the sluts and the users. Meet them in bars? Hang out in the all night supermarket? Been there, done that. If you have exhausted the means closer to home, you start to expand your circle.

The Internet offers that. But on the local scene, it's an empty offer. I did the local Internet dating scene (hell, I even tried the newspapers alternative!). I met more losers, and many who were interested in playmates, not husbands (though the woman who was into getting spanked was... interesting). I traveled Vermont. Then widened my circle, traveling to NY, Boston (yes, your neck of the woods), even as far as Tennessee and S. Carolina. All the same. People who were not truly interested in a relationship, just looking to find something to pass the time, to relieve the boredom.

On my first trip to Russia, I was not expecting much different. And I did meet some girls looking just for some fun, and a couple who were probably as crazy as some I had met in the US. But I met several who were sincere about finding a husband -- more in one trip than all the time I spent looking in the US.

So as Tom Cruise said in Top Gun, "This is what I call a target rich environment..."

Maybe I jumped a little quick too - but your posts often start out looking antagonistic; well, they do to me, anyway.

Thanks for the clarification. As others have pointed out, there are a wide variety of personal experiences here, so generalisations are no good.

Some people may have given up on their local scene, some are just widening their area of opportunity.

My story - well, it's on the forum somewhere, but basically I wasn't looking at all, got contacted by a woman from Bratsk who turned out not to be there, went on a holiday anyway, and met a girl in a bar

Now I'm getting married

I'd also guess that a good number of the men on the forum fall in to my general category (but I know, I shouldn't generalize); I'm 40 and single, and after a certain age, it gets very hard to meet, locally, single and suitable women (and I'm sure it's the same for the women!). So people look at other options, not specifically to get married, but maybe just to find someone they can enjoy spending time with.

So it's not a case of people giving up on the locals, it's just realisation that it's not the only option. I'm sure many people here would be only too happy to meet someone locally, it cuts out all the extra expense, time, uncertainty - but sometimes, life asks you to go the extra yard.

I'm tired tonight, been working 6 days a week as we are on mandatory overtime. I'm already late (nothing they can say today!) but i'll TRY to make it short and hope I don't leave out important details.

There are a few of us here that didn't start out looking for Russian women, etc...

As for me, I was reading my favorite firearms forum AR-15.COM (I post there as MisterHemi) and there was a link to the Russian newspaper Pravda... It was a political article and I always enjoy reading an outsiders view of American Politics/Life. I had worked with some of these SAME people here in Los Angeles at the 1984 Olympics. I was assigned to the Main Press Center (Los Angeles Convention Center) so I was familiar with them. I had known they had become credible publications after the cold war. Also, I had known a few Russians from school and I always had a good impression of Russians.

Anyway, within this news article there was a link for a dating site specifically for Russian women (bride.ru - I knew it was Russian because of the .ru designation). I had NEVER heard of such a thing in my life but I was so curious (What is the saying "curiousity killed the cat"

) so I decided to look......

At the time I was seperated and knew I would never be getting back together with my ex-wife BUT I wasn't looking for anyone. I was happy again, not having the problems I had with my ex-wife and doing what I wanted, when I wanted. Buying music equipment gain, etc....

I looked and looked, read and read just amazed.... So I did a google search and found this site and a few others. So I read some more.....

In the meantime, I happened upon the profile of one particular lady. There was something about her that just awe struck me. I can't explain it (so I won't try) but as much as I tried I couldn't forget her. I thought it was crazy to try to meet someone half way around the world.

About a month passed by and I continued to read but still couldn't forget this woman. It was then I did some soul searching to see if it was financially possible, etc... I searched for answers (that is where I got the name "searcher").

I thought I should better my chances, so I decided to write to a few women. I thought that one particular lady would never be interested in me, my baggage, etc...

After writing these other women for a while. I couldn't resist writing to "her" so finally I did.... I saw her a few times on the interner and quite frankly I bought her address from a few places because I wanted to be sure I had her current address. I had read about these women moving or already being married, etc...

I sent her several emails and a letter by postal mail containing my letter and some red rose petals from roses in my front yard.

Well.... It was THAt lady that I got along with best. She was so nice and we must have written 5-10 pages of emails EVERY day for 6 months! She seemed quite special indeed... I don't know if to call it intuition or whatever but it is still quite special.

I am now engaged to "that" woman, her name is

and she was just as special in person as she was in her letters.

I took a chance, a big risk and I feel like I won the lottery. I suppose you can live your life wondering, etc or you can try things, take chances, be adventurous...

You will never know unless you try!

Also consider some of us did not start looking for a Russian woman, but scammers lead us in that direction. It was that case for me, and I have read a couple others saying the same.

I live in a small....small city of 45000 people in Northern Ontario,not much of a selection of women here.Most like fishing,hunting,that kind of stuff,nothing in common with me.When I do meet someone I could be interested in,I find out they are married or have a boyfriend already.

I started first looking 8 hours south,Toronto.Lots of ladies there,none was interested in moving north.
One day I was looking at a Bargin Finder for car parts for a car I was restoring and in the back was a international section.There were ladies from other countries interested in finding a huband.I started writing slowly at first and then more.I made a lot of nice friends along the way and realized that I did not have to settle for what was in my own area,that there was someone for me somewhere in this big ,big world.Dose not matter if she is Russian,German,Swiss,Asian or what ever,as long as we are happy.

i just wanted to respond...not all people go through Russian dating services. the world now, because of the internet, has become a very small place. personaly, i wanted to expand my horizons. why should i be restricted to a smll town or city or state. i also find it funny with the assumption that only unattractive men look elsewhere in other countries...i could easily find someone near me if i wanted to settle for less than my ideal. marriage is a serious business. i was married to an extremely beautiful woman, but her character did not share the same beauty.....it is by a strange chance of fate that i found and later married my russian wife....i married her because of who she was inside and out. because she happens to have been born in russia is secondary to me. i hope, and believe that those people that are married or engaged to fsu women do so because of the character of these women, not because of where they live. governments have borders....people have freedom of choice...let all people feel free to create their own destiny in life based on what they feel is correct for their own lives........

Pehaps it is for the Russian women to anwer why they want American men...all i can say is that there sure are a lot of them coming here......my wife had a good life in Russia, many friends and family...now those same people have become my friends and family...she has given up everything for me, and i appreciate her devotion.....she told me it was an easy choice to make, and she wanted a new life with me...for me personally, she has shown me what real love and sacrifice is, and i will honor and love her for life.

Hey guys, we all have our own particular tastes in life but we should not use them to beat the other person over the head. So, Sorbetongue you prefer French Men and I hope all is going well for you, but that does not mean that they are better than American Men. It is you choice, and only for you. Many of the American memebers here have Russian wives and that was their choice. So I would suppose they would say American men are better than French men, but that is their choice.

Interesting perspective that we men spend thousands of dollars searching in the FSU for a wife. Lets have a look here. OK say we date an AW. First of all if we have a job where we are not in an environment to have women in the work place. Then there are the night clubs ( ya right) Then there is the internet. OK so we get on www.your favoritesightdot com. We write some letters to ones we are interested in. Hmmm no response. Because the ratio of men to women is some where around 2 to 1. But for conversation sake lets say we get a response. How much will we spend dating this AW. 100 bucks, 200 bucks, (rub a lamp dude

we are going to spend serious change) Now put a profile on an FSU dating site. We get reponses from more women than we can handle. Ya we spend money to travel! The travel part is the experience. How many people to you know that can say the swam in the Black Sea, or tasted local Carpatas cuisine. Ya we can travel to these places with an AW. But that costs no less, maybe more because then you buy travel for two. Just my humble opinion.
