Lena and I are leaving today for a trip to Washington D.C. to see my parents

Hi Everyone...

Lena and I are leaving today (late in the evening of Wednesday June 25) to spend two weeks with my parents.

We are still going to maintain the website while we are there (my parents have a computer).

I am going to respond to some of your messages on the forum after I arrive, because I need to pack and get ready for a 2 week trip.

I am finding that I am having to put a lot of computer files onto a DVD data disk so that I can do some work and give the Russian Meeting Place website some attention while I am away

As I mentioned, Lena and I are going to be seeing my parents near Washington D.C. (actually, a few miles from Annapolis, Maryland).

Lena has met my mom (when my mom came to visit me in L.A.), but my father has never met Lena

My dad is a little old fashioned and a bit old fashioned in his thinking sometimes, so... it should be an interesting trip He also speaks his mind in a direct way unfiltered way sometimes.

But, I feel that it is a good thing that Lena begins to develop a relationship with my parents. Lena also really wants to do this, and brought several presents with her for my family when she arrived in January, which she is now carefully packing in order to give to my family during this trip. (Russian people, and Easterners, know how to make people feel appreciated through gifts )

I am going to have to go because I have a lot of preparation to do before our trip (we leave in less than 12 hours for the airport).

I have enjoyed reading your recent messages. I would like to respond to them after I arrive in Washington and settle in.

Khashyar

(p.s.... I will write you about how the "meeting of the parents" goes )

Khashyar and Lena!

Have a great time on the trip! By the way, for comic relief, maybe you should rent a copy of "Meet the Parents"... after that movie, I don't think I'm afraid to meet anyone's parents!

Take care!

Khashyar & Lena:

Enjoy Washington, DC...it's perhaps my favorite city...always so much to do and certainly Americana at it's best. Has Lena been to Washington? That should be eventful for her (that is besides meeting your father :-) I would offer suggestions but Khashyar, given you're from DC, you could probably suggest a few places to me. Take some photos to upload! I'm in DC several times a year so perhaps we can meet sometime.

Agreed! That movie was funny! Does your dad have a cat?

I'm hopeful that this visit will solidify the family bond that keeps you and her strong for the rest of your lives. I hope your father can see the beauty in Lena that you do Khashyar. And I hope that, as she walks through the monuments and buildings there, she gets a great insight into what America really is.

Thanks Steve, Keith and Bob...

We've arrived in the Washington D.C. area, and have been getting settled in.

(Yes, I've seen "Meet the Parents," and I was hoping that we wouldn't be setting any trees on fire here ....My parents only have a big dog, so I was not worried about the cat episode )

Things have been going well here

My mom and Lena already had a good relationship, and their relationship is even better after we arrived.

Things seem to be going well with my dad also...

My parents (just like most parents) just want what is best for their children, and want to make sure that they are happy.

Lena brought presents for my family (that she brought to the U.S. when she arrived in January), including two bottles of Russian & Belarusian vodka (my dad likes vodka when he socializes with old friends). Lena also gave my mom a porcelin Russian-made fish, a couple of hand-painted and signed paintings, as well as a wooden matrioshka doll (the doll that has smaller dolls within other dolls), as well as other things.

I just set up our email accounts on my parents' computer so that we can check our website's emails, and Lena and I both are going to schedule time daily so that we can maintain our website (and so I can read messages and write in the forum)...

We are planning on going to downtown Washington and see the White House, Smithsonian museums, as well as other things in the area...

We will take photographs and posting for everyone...

I will wrote more soon (Lena and I need to eat breakfast with my dad )...

Hello Everyone...

I am still here in Washington D.C. (until Wed. July 9th)....

Tomorrow my family is going to leave the house all day, and I will be able to read and respond to the many messages that have been posted since I left... I'm sorry that I did not have the chance to reply to many messages since I left for my trip to Washington).

Things are going o.k. here with our visit with my parents.

My parent's house (where we are staying) is actually in Maryland near Annapolis and three blocks from the Chesepeake Bay.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Lena and I are going to stay with my sister who actually lives in Washington D.C., so Lena will be able to see the White House, the national monuments, as well as the Smithsonian and other interesting Washington sites

We are going to take some photos, and I hope to be able to post some photos in our Photo Galleries while we are still here on the East Coast.

I actually want to take photos of Lena (and Lena and me) in front of the Capital Building and the White House. Those should be great symbolic photos of Lena being in America I would also like to take a photo of Lena in front of the Hollywood sign.

Again, I am going to write and respond to some messages tomorrow when Lena and I will be alone in the house.

Hello...

Lena's and my Wednesday flight was effectively cancelled by the airlines because of bad weather, so we have to wait for almost 5 hours at the Baltimore International Airport, and then go back to my parents' home.

Our airlines rescheduled our flight for Thursday, so... we should be home late Thursday night.... (I had some time now to write a little before we leave for the airport again in less than one hour).

I still want to write a summary of what it was like for Lena to meet my parents (and meet my father for the first time), but this will have to wait until after we arrive in L.A...

I'm hoping for good weather for my flight today...

Khashyar!

It's a bummer to wait for 5 hours in the airport. But I'm glad that the airlines decided to postpone the flight rather than take the risk to fly through bad weather.

I wish you and Lena a safe journey home! I look forward to seeing you guys soon!

Have a safe flight!
