Chernobyl Heart

I've just finished watching an HBO documentary about the Chernobyl aftermath.

It's called "Chernobyl heart" and from what I've seen in the footage, it's been shot with an Irish NGO helping children there.

It takes place in Belarus, and well, you have to see it for yourself. Be prepared to cry I guess

When I went to Kiev, I was thinking about taking the trip there....

But, most of my friends and family thought it was a bad idea and discouraged me from going...

I tried to get to the museum in Kiev, but my 'guide' did not like it as it was 'bad' and delayed and delayed me... finally I insisted we go and guess what.. the museum is CLOSED on Sunday....

I still think she knew about this....

Michel,

Thanks for posting that. I saw it a few weeks ago on HBO and was really saddened by the whole situation, but I want to watch it again.

Ah - a Very good movie.

I also suggest:

"Kidofspeed - my rides through chernobyl area"

Kid of Speed: Motorcycle Rides through Chernobyl Area.

An incredible story. She has moved on to other projects but I find myself revisiting her journey...

And perhaps you have heard that Eric Roberts is in Kiev right now making a movie about Chernobyl. Hard to imagine it, actually...

Hey Minsk1109,

I knew of Kidofspeed, there are many powerful pictures in her website.
I also read accounts that her version was a bit exagerated, and she never actually ride through with her bike but took the pictures during normal visits with guides.

Anyway event if it's true, the pictures are still very impressive, and what they depict is real.

Hey Michel,

You are so right... Sadly, after some research on the whole subject, it is painfully clear that her story and many photos are a fraud/hoax.

The bike is not hers but her (ex-)husband's. (Somewhat amazing that a bike costing $10k USD new in USA and atleast double that in Europe, is owned by a 29+ YO Ukrainian woman. Not absolutely impossible BUT does strain belief.)

She did not ride but she and (ex) husband went on a regular tour in a car.

She set up many photos...
Her Father is NOT a government official with special permit access to zone.
etc., etc., etc...

The truth about Chernobyl is bad enough, especially in Belarus, without having to stage a hoax about it all...

Sad -

featuring the work of Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children’s Project International,

yep an Irish woman =o)

Under Adi's leadership, the CCP-International project has initiated aid programs and delivered humanitarian and medical aid valued at over $50M to the areas most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. A rest and recuperation program has enabled more than 11,000 sick children to come to Ireland for medical treatment and recuperation since 1993.
