Hey all, I will be moving to Moscow and Kiev to teach English. Are there any other employment oppurtunities for native speaking expats, besides the obvious ones, like teaching english, translating, etc..

Any information would be appreciated!

Don't know about Moscow, but very unlikely in Kiev. Check conflict transformation jobs, though--maybe you'll get lucky. (FYI: you need to pay a small fee to subscribe to their jobs mailing list--but if you're looking for a job in the FSU, it is well worth it). http://conflicttransformation.org/

Actually, let me go back a step.

What is your field/experience/education/language ability? This will better detemine your chances for employment in Moscow/Kiev. When expat jobs do open up, they generally have fairly specific requirements. What are you looking for?

I speak good Russian, and have alot of experience in an office environment, but only hold an associates degree in business administration. I hold a celta certificate for tefl, and an IB diploma.
Most of my experience is with inventory management and administrative aspects.

That being said, I am not really looking for a top paying job, simply a job that pays enough to get by. Currently the teaching job I will be getting pays $1,000 a month in Kiev, plus free housing and board. I assume there has to be some sort of job an expat could do that paid less then that, but then again I havent been to Kiev since 1998.

Thanks for any information Jill

Honestly, your best bet is probably teaching English and doing some tutoring on the side to make some extra money if you need it.

If money's not an issue and you're just looking for experience, the guy from www.tryukraine.com used to have internship opportunities for expats (in Ukraine--some in Kiev). You could try contacting him (I think he also charges a nominal fee for placement). The internships are generally unpaid--so that would be purely for the experience of it.

In terms of "real" jobs, though, I have to warn you that it is very competitive now

The teaching job you have lined up sounds like a pretty good deal. If I were you, I would concentrate on that.
