After arriving in Dimitrovgrad Vera and I went to register me within the allowed three days.
While at the offices I had to hand in my passport and that is when the confussion started.
You see, my passport is a Irish passport and our offical language is Irish but we speak English. So, on my passport is Irish and English. When they asked why there were two addresses for the Passport Authority, I was trying to explain that it was the same address but in Irish.
My city is "Cork in English" and "Corcaigh in Irish" but Cork translates as KORK in Russian. So, I was trying to explain one is in English the other in Irish, they just would not believe me.
It took about 45 minutes for them to check that Irish was a real language, before they would accept my passport. It was then all the laughter broke out in the office. I had been the first Irishman they had to deal with and never knew Ireland has it's own language. The added plus was my surname "KENNEDY", when they saw that I would be asked if I was related to President John F. Kennedy. It was a big thing for them, I got great kick out of that.

Well that is what happened me, I hope when I return it will be easier the next time....lol

Hm, if I went there and showed them my Polish passport, I don't think they would be that fun though.

I am a sucker for giving money to all the musicians and beggars in the Moscow metro stations. When coming off the metro one time, I passed a lady who was holding a sign that was written in cursive Russian. I can’t read cursive very well. I made the assumption that she was begging, and that the sign alerted people to that fact. In my generosity, I walked up to her, reached in my pocket, and gave her some Rubles. She got pissed and started cussing me in very rapid Russian. It seems that she was not begging at all. She was there to meet somebody, and the sign she was holding was trying to identify that party. “Gulp!” It’s funny now when I think about what an idiot I was. It wasn’t very funny then.

Exactly a year ago, I was in Odessa and the
weather was far too hot for me 38-40C.

I began to suffer from "heat-rash", in a rather
delicate area, which was becoming very sore.
So, phrase-book in hand, it's off to the pharmacy,
thankfully fairly close to my hotel.
Tried to explain my problem, got the ladies in stitches!
and ended up with this!

I guess that I was their "pain in the arse" that day!
