I'm known here (and in some other places) as ConnerVT. As my screen name might tell you, I live in Vermont, which is just east of New York state, close to the Canadian border.

My wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in June. We have a son who will turn 7 years old next month, and he will begin 2nd grade. My wife and I met in Russia almost 2 1/2 years ago. When they arrived in the US last year, my son spoke perhaps 10 works of English. Now, he will talk your left ear off in English, then talk your right ear off in Russian.

I first started reading these forums to learn. Then I used them to keep myself occupied while I waited for the visa to be processed (it was 'lost' in the embassy in Moscow for over 6 months! ). Now, I check in to see how well life is for the friends I've made. And I occasionally try to share an experience, or make a bad joke. I've been posting here at RMP almost since it began, and my post count is so high due to the long wait for my family to arrive to me. You will find that you have little free time to post when you have a young son.

I just returned from Russia 2 weeks ago, but my wife and son are staying with family a few weeks more (unfortunately, I had to return to work). It was my 6th trip to Russia. I truly enjoy visiting there, except for the long time it takes to travel.

I am new to this type of communication. So please bare with. I was in Tver Russia last dec. 07. I have been communicating with a woman there for over one year. It is difficult because her english is not very good. Her letters are short and not very often. It is very frustrating to me.

When I was in Tver I stayed with her and her mother in the flat (3wks). We got along great. Anyway, it is good to meet you.

it's funny, I've had a problem signing up, it would not let me click signup button on the form with the age, so my original DOB did not worked, I tried to hack it by using a really small number lik 06, it registered, but sent me the form for under 13yo, which I did not filled up due to laziness

Hello everyone, Last August I went to Odessa to study Russian, and I asked a few questions about dating over in Odessa, I had a good time for about two weeks, but did not meet anyone memorable.
Three family emergencies resulted all in one week brother and grandmother passing away, and my father having a massive stroke. So I havn't been looking for a while.

I met a wonderful woman from Kiev in Detroit, and now I am looking forward to visiting her and starting a relationship with her.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Welcome back Tony, sorry to hear about your loses and your father. I know the healing process can be slow and I wish you the best of luck with this process.

The RMP can be a source of support and I have found a few good friends here. I am in Battle Creek, just down the road from you. If you need to talk or have questions, send me a PM and I'll give you my e-mail address and phone number. Take care and I wish you the best of luck in the future, in life, and in love.

Hello, everyone.
I am new to this forum and I joined because I married a Russian women and brought her and her son and daughter to the US. I absolutely love her and her children. My daughter from a previous marriage loves them all as well.
We all intend to return to St Petersburg sometime soon. We still have an apartment there and it is empty. I gave my wife a website so that she would have something to do, but I am running it. She was, is, an excellent chef but cannot find work here because her English is not very good yet. My Russian is terrible too.
Anyway I just thought that I would introduce myself.

Posted by: Legal

gregw2 Welcome Olga and I also love Saint Petersburg. Like you Olga's son and I get along very well. Wow Olga also has her own website and makes her own cultural videos. Olga also has been teaching me Russian.
If you or your wife need help just let us know.

Posted by: Cheburashka

Welcome Greg! Don't let that flat sit empty in St Pete. Lease it. There is serious cash flow to be made in short term flat rental. Tourist season is upon us.

Hello, Everyone! I'm Roxie! What should I have done to be allowed to post new topics?

Posted by: eddie465

Hello Roxie. If I understand correctly you should be able to create new threads in the "New Members Post Here" section. But to be allowed to post in rest of forum, you need to post three times.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Yes Eddie is correct. Make 3 posts and then you can post in other threads or start your own thread. You have 2 more to go so tell us about yourself and what interested you in finding a foreign bride or maybe you're just curious about this website.

Welcome and good luck with your search.

Hello everyone

I have just joined this website and am looking forward to sharing thoughts, commentary, questions and ideas with all of you.

My name is Augustus, I am 32 years old and divide my time between London and the Kent/Sussex border where I have just moved house.

My connection to this website is that my wife of three years, Marisa, is originally from Moscow.

My story so far...

I met Marisa four years ago in the Seychelles. I was working out there and she visited the islands on holiday.

We first saw each other on a white sand beach outside a hotel on a blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon. I wasn't even supposed to be there, I was supposed to be on a different island on a surfing trip with friends but cancelled in the last minute.

I still get the same butterflies in my stomach when I remember the first time I saw her, she was a vision in a bikini. Probably the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.

I couldn't keep my eyes off her and we kept catching each other looking over, which became almost comical.

However, I never plucked up the courage to speak to her and eventually had to leave to pick up my friends from the boat terminal.

But for the next two days I could not stop thinking about the girl at the beach.

Then, as fate would have it, I returned to the hotel two nights later to do some photography for a conference that my company was holding.

It was on a huge open air terrace. Half way through, I heard behind me the distinct clacking of high heels. I turned to see the girl on the beach. We clocked each other and then she calmly sat down and began to read her book.

It felt like a steam train had entered my chest, my heart was pounding that hard. I knew I had to do something.

I approached her and simply said "Is it a good book?"
She politely replied that she spoke very little English to which I replied:
"That's OK - I'll teach you!"

We met for drinks the following night and it was love from that moment on. Normally it took me months to fall for someone and here it took a matter of minutes. And we didn't even speak the same language!

We then spent 10 fabulous days together. Two weeks later I visited her in Moscow where our infatuation and love for each other doubled each day.

A month later I went back to see her in Moscow and then we planned to spend Christmas and New Year in Sweden, where she could meet my mother.

Disaster then struck. After planning the whole 10 day trip, with hotels and itineraries, Marisa's travel agent made grave errors on her visa application and she was refused a visa to Sweden.
I had already landed there, having made a two day trip from the Seychelles and the day I was waiting at an airport hotel for her to arrive, she was telling me that the visa had been denied and she was unable to travel.
I called the Swedish consulate in Moscow but nobody was there as everyone had left for the Christmas holidays. I tried one last time and managed to get hold of the consulate herself, who had only returned to the office for ten minutes to pick up something as she had missed her flight back to Sweden that day. I explained our predicament and she asked Marisa to return to the consulate immediately. She then personally gave Marisa her visa. It was serendipity!

A few days later I proposed and the following month Marisa joined me in the Seychelles. We married later that year on the most beautiful beach in the world.

We were happy in the Seychelles, but when Marisa became pregnant we decided to head back to England to build our family's future.

Our daughter, Tanya, was born in Oxford. She is now two years old and the most beautiful Runglish girl in the world.

Life in the UK hasn't been easy, especially on one income as Marisa has been adament about enjoying being a full time mother (otherwise what's the point of having children?) but Tanya has really benefited. She is so developed and clever. She starts nursery in September and then Marisa will start work.

We'd love to hear from any other Runglish couples, all my friends are still single lads playing the field and Marisa has not met anyone she has gelled with. Apparently English girls are very wary of Russian girls.

As I mentioned I'm 32, Marisa is 27 and Tanya is 2. I work in London and commute every week day, we just moved out from London to the gorgeous countryside in Kent.

All the best
Augustus

Hi my I just got back from Moscow in the middle of July. I actually got married there on July 4th believe it or not. It was the only date available lol. I met a wonderful woman about a year ago and this was my second time over. I have read alot of you talking about costs and how expensive it is there and to tell you the truth if you are staying with someone who knows the city then you can limit your expensives alot. I was there for about three weeks and we lived as russians do in her flat and took the subway and shuttle buses and yes those people who will give you a ride for cash which is a trip in itself. I have a question that if someone can answer I would appreciate it. I am thinking of moving over there in November while we wait for the paper work to process and not sure about jobs or if I can even find one. Has anyone done this or is doing it now? I would love any information that you can share with me. Also I know the entire process from beginning to end as it pertains to getting married in Russia so if you need some help feel free to ask me. I know the american side of requirements as well as the russian side and believe me there are alot of things that need to be done and done right so feel free to ask me.

Hello Matto and welcome.

I was married July 5 in las Vegas!

We have 2 active memebers teaching English in Russia now. One is mistermopar (in Volgograd) and Pin Boy (in Kiev). Send them a personal message (PM) through this website. I'm sure they can help you out.

CONGRATS on the wedding!

Larisa and I wish you many years of happiness!

ok I don't know if I did this correct so I am trying a new one. I just got married to a wonderful woman in Moscow on July 4th of this year believe it or not!! That was the only date available for us lol Anyways I am thinking about moving there for 6 months while our paperwork is processed. Has anyone done that and if so what about work in moscow for americans? Is there any? It was a learning experience in itself just to make sure we had all the paperwork done and done correctly on both sides of the world but we are now experts in it and if any of you are thinking about getting married in Russia I would be glad to share what I know and have learned. Anyways if any of you are living in Moscow or are planning on it soon please send me a relply and let me know what would help me.

Matto

Posted by: Cheburashka

Congrats on the wedding matto. Expats are leaving Russia at an alarming rate. Why someone would want to go live there now is beyond me. But if you must, go to red tape forums and post There are lots of Moscow residents who post job openings. You'll love the people over there.

Hey randy thanks for the reply,

How did you find a job there if you did and how is it going. I am thinking of moving there in early November and will be living in moscow. I really do like moscow even with the crazy traffic. The people I met were wonderful and they all think I can find something there. Any idea's of where to start. My wife is looking also for me.

Matto

Thanks so much for the reply. I hope I can get some good information here while I decide if I will move to moscow for a while. Really need to find out first if I will be able to work but if so I am off to the races. Thanks again for the warm response

Welcome to the forum matto. You will find me less than optimistic where moving to Moscow and working is concerned. In short: don't do it. Most ex-pats are leaving. And many of the ones I know still there are not really happy. If an American company is sending you there, you will be fine. But if you want to "show up" and try to find work, you are in for a rude awakening. Employment in Moscow is dramatically different than the fair business practices of HR based Americans. You can get seriously screwed over. You will have enough fight with Russian landlords, why add employers to the mix?

I can confirm what Cheb is saying. The problems for many ex pats are just becoming overwhelming. Even for those married to russian women who should supposedly get an easier path. I have two long term ex pat friends in St Petersburg who bought apartments there. Both in the process of leaving. If you do go you do need to pick your employer VERY carefully as unscupulous ones will use their hold over you in terms of the Visa quite ruthlessly. Employers will quite often not even pay someone's salary if it suits them.

That might be hard for the unseasoned reader to believe. But it happens all the time! And there isn't a darned thing one can do about it except maybe make friends with the Tambov crime family who will go extract the kneecaps of the employer and get your money. There is a great line from the movie "The Wizard Of Oz" where Dorothy proclaims: "Toto, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore!"

New country, new rules.

Hello all:

Just signed up and doing the mandatory newbie thing. I have actually dated 2 former Russian women here in Canada, there does seem to be a number of Russian women in Canada. I have travelled in Europe several times and stayed for several months in different locations.

While in Europe I never managed to travel as far east as Russia but was told by people I talked to that it is an interesting place to travel, so I though I would join a forum and find out a little more from people who had travelled and lived there.

I also thought that any forum on any subject can always benefit from some Canadian input.

Welcome to RMP sudden.

There are many people here who can tell you of their encounters with women and the culture of each FSU.

Welcome Sudden! I wouldn't say they are more high maintenance then any other woman. Just let them know your budget and they can adjust. Most put family ahead of wealth and understand you can't have everything you want.

Hi all. I have been a member here now for a little while but have not written anything till now as I have been reading through the various knowledgable threads on this site. If I may introduce myself my name is Gareth or Gaz to my friends so please free to call me whatever you wish. I live in South Wales just outside of Cardiff. I have been trying for some time to find a Russian lady for myself and last year travelled to Russia to meet one lady which unfortunately was not successful but am again travelling in early November to meet with another lady or two that I have been in correspondence with. While I would not class myself as a newbie I am certainly not an expert neither on anything to do with Russia but still I hope that I can be of some assistance where possible to others.
Look forward to speaking to you all sometime in the future.
Gaz

Welcome Gaz! Any advise or tips you'd like to share about being successful with this process?

We have many members from your part of the world.

Read, ask questions, and good luck with your adventure in November!

Posted by: Gaz

Thanks Going to Russia for your welcome. I wish I could offer advice to someone on being successful as so far I have only one failed attempt to my name. Hopefully come November I can change this stastic in my favour but certainly I will only be to glad to offer my own experiences to anyone especially to any person travelling out to Russia for the first time

Don't think of it as a failure, think of it as a learning experience and a vacation. Cupid doesn't always hit the mark and you should go with a state of mind of meeting a new friend and having a vacation.

Take care and have a save journey.

Welcome to RPM Gaz.

Posted by: Gaz

Thanks Azamuner.
GTR you are so right. I guess failure was the wrong word. I certainly don't have any regrets not now anyway because by going last year I learnt a lot and have removed the rose tinted glasses and lowered my hopes and expectations for this trip but also still remaining positive as I am certain in my own mind that in doing this I am doing the right thing for me.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Now that's the right attitude to have Gaz ... GOOD LUCK!!!

Welcome aboard Gaz!

Your experience and knowledge can be a treasure cove of wealth. But on the contrary, keep your hopes and expectations high but leave the rose colored glasses off. You need 20/20 going into this as I'm sure you well know

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm just starting my journey, really. I really enjoyed the time travel I've been able to have by finding this forum. I got to read several wonderful stories of guys who have, over the last few years, chronicled their journeys and shared their insights and thoughts. I purposefully started my time here reading older stories (dating back 3 or 4 years) and followed them up to present time -- completely ignoring recent posts. It's like I got to look into this time capsule and see these year or 2 long stories unfold and then look up and see these same guys posting yesterday or today or tomorrow. It's hard to describe, but I'm so glad the archives stretch back far enough.

So my expectations at this point are:
1) I plan to travel to FSU sometime next year. Maybe late spring or early summer. Money and time off of a new job are my limiting factors. I haven't had a real vacation in 2 or 3 years, and I'm thinking a trip to FSU wouldn't be so bad if planned right. Hopefully, that trip would include a visit to meet a woman. Maybe even more than one. It may also just be a vacation for vacation's sake.

2) It will take some time to get to know a woman before she and I are comfortable enough to commit to a visit. Almost certainly more than 2 months, but probably less than 6.

3) Incorporating phone calls -- and Skype, if possible -- while not mandatory, will be a goal

4) Opinions regarding WMVM/WMVO/WOVO vary, and I'm not yet at a point to have to decide much of this. I'm definitely at the WM stage, but I suspect that will dwindle to WF (write few) or even WO. I'm only a month or two into this, so the road is still too long to tell.

5) I'd love to learn Russian (again), but I don't think it's realistic to expect to know it well enough before a trip. As much as I love learning languages, I don't have as much free time as I used to.

6) One fear I have is the dress issue. I'm very much a t-shirt and jeans guy, but I suspect I'll have to class up my act eventually. This will be a tough one, as I'm torn between the desire to be comfortable and relaxed when I eventually travel there, and trying to put forth my best first impression. That, and I really want to minimize sticking out like a foreigner. Again, I have some time to figure this one out.

7) This journey will probably cost $5K to 7$K USD a year, assuming once yearly travel and several trips.

8) It's atypical (and perhaps a bit foolish) to expect a marriage proposal on the first trip, so there's essentially a two trip minimum.

9) Most folks advise having backup plans for trips, so at some point (probably when it looks like I have a particular destination in mind), I should contact local agencies and establish a relationship with them.

Sorry for the long intro and list. I'm a software guy, so that's how I think.

Hi Storycrafter,
Welcome to the RMP!

I wouldn't worry to much about the dress code.
I have been living here for a year now and I am a t-shirt and jeans guy.
People don't seen to notice that I am a foreigner,in fact I have many people come up to me and ask for directions,of course I do not know a lot of Russian.
It is a surprise to many when I tell them in Russian that I do not know Russian.

Many people here wear t-shirts and jeans. Also running shoes,Nike,Addidas,Rebok and so on.

Welcome to the forum storycrafter. Sounds like you have done your homework and are on your way to a successful and hopefully an enjoyable journey. Just remember to go with the thought of a vacation and having a good time with a beautiful woman. Don't go with expectations of meeting your wife. I guess I would call it self protection.

Good luck with your future adventures and share all you have learned with us. It doesn't have to be about your girl, it can be about restaurants, travel, or cities you visit.

It looks to me as if you have a good game plan! Stick with it and have fun!
