I was thinking it might be a nice idea to start a thread where people can find out about the folks whom visit the Russian Meeting Place.

Feel free to add to it to introduce yourself, but let's not clutter it up with extra chit-chat.

I'm known here (and in some other places) as ConnerVT. As my screen name might tell you, I live in Vermont, which is just east of New York state, close to the Canadian border.

My wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in June. We have a son who will turn 7 years old next month, and he will begin 2nd grade. My wife and I met in Russia almost 2 1/2 years ago. When they arrived in the US last year, my son spoke perhaps 10 works of English. Now, he will talk your left ear off in English, then talk your right ear off in Russian.

I first started reading these forums to learn. Then I used them to keep myself occupied while I waited for the visa to be processed (it was 'lost' in the embassy in Moscow for over 6 months! ). Now, I check in to see how well life is for the friends I've made. And I occasionally try to share an experience, or make a bad joke. I've been posting here at RMP almost since it began, and my post count is so high due to the long wait for my family to arrive to me. You will find that you have little free time to post when you have a young son.

I just returned from Russia 2 weeks ago, but my wife and son are staying with family a few weeks more (unfortunately, I had to return to work). It was my 6th trip to Russia. I truly enjoy visiting there, except for the long time it takes to travel.

Welcome, Everyone, to the Russian Meeting Place forums.

It was a great idea of Conner's to create this introduction thread.

I am not going to post my introduction (because it can be found through the website and forum pages), but I would like to welcome everyone to the RMP, and encourage you to post a little information about yourself in this thread so that others can become more acquainted with you, and so that you can begin the process of making new friends here.

Tell us a bit about your story, how you became interested in Russia, Russian culture, or Russian-Western relationships.

Everybody is so shy....Perhaps a girl can get you, gentlemen, started.
My name is Paula, I live in Santa Clarita for over 4 years. Originally from St.Petersburg, Russia (not Florida!). My Rus-Am marriage has failed some time ago. Now I live alone, with my 13 years old son actually. God blessed my with a wonderful son, many great friends, decent job. So I'm pretty happy with who I am and I wish everybody the best of luck.

I'm Eryk. I am British, "30 something" and I live in Minsk with Natasha ...who is Belarusian (obviously). I have been a permanent resident here for 2 to 3 years (my business takes me to other countries for several week trips so I never spend more than 9 months a year in any single country). By training I am a Medical Microbiologist but by profession I am a software engineer. Also, since I am an arrogant SOB I resigned from the whole "being employed" idea a long time ago (15 years - about) and run my own company. "Boss" is a "four letter word" to me -- but then "Eryk" is a "four letter word" to everyone

Hello everybody, my name is Pawel and I'm an arrogant twenty-something SOB as well . I was born in Zabrze (Slask (Silesia) province) in communist-occupied Poland. Later on my parents got separated, my mom stayed in Poland and still teaches chemistry and physics in Poland, while my dad came to the States and is a supervisor/fix-any-machine handyman at a tool and dye factory. I arrived in the States in 1993 and stayed with my dad, but for a couple of years now have been independent.

I'm working to become a history professor one day because history, as people might have noticed here, is my life passion. Other than that, I work in Polish-English translations (a decent way to pay rent, bills and get me through school, since I still have some left), sell cigarettes at discount prices to smokers fed up with paying 50 bucks for a carton of smokes and I also write for "POLONIA" monthly magazine and I'm currently expanding my writing "operations" to other Polish and English-language publications.

Well, no reason not to contribute here to this thread!

I am 34yo Australian, living in Melbourne. I first got the taste for the wonderful Russian ladies having met a wonderful lady in Europe at a trade fair, we courted, dated, I visited 2 times but it finished unfortunately - we both were not prepared to leave respective countries. We still talk sometimes and will see her as a friend in October in Europe.

My business is my own, and I love travelling away from Australia 4-5 times each year, even after many years doing this and still think we have the best country in the world

I am talking each day to someone now and we are meeting in October in Russia - so, we are confident of good times together!!

Oh, I am not as ball-busting arrogant as the other posters - just confident

I should add - I am single dad to 2 girls living with me full time. Makes everything more interesting!! But, I love a challenge....

Posted by: inlove

I'm pretty sure some people here consider me being an arrogant SOB too. Well, I guess it is a price to pay for shooting from the hip and not going around the bush.

I'm Russian, and I have been living in the States for 7 years now. I came to visit California for a months in the fall of 1998, and unexpectedly stayed for 6 months, during which I managed to find a job.. Three years ago I moved to Chicago - one of the wisest decisions of my life. I fell in love with Chicago the moment I saw it, and I'm still deeply fascinated by this city. I love local people, local culture, local weather, local architecture and everything else. I consider myself being a true "chicagonian" with russian roots.
I do a very large array of things. I teach, produce concerts and special events, do marketing and promotion for a few clients in the entertainment industry. I'm also looking into doing something with TV and film, but has not gotten around yet to figure out what I actually want to do in this area.
I'm deeply in love with my boyfriend (we are moving in together by the end of August, btw). He is the most wonderful man alive, there is no doubt in my mind. I also have a son who is turning 12 this fall.

It's good to hear introductory summaries from members who I know fairly well...

It's good to read a capsulization of their lives...

We have a lot of self-proclaimed "arrogant SOB"s who are introducing themselves

I don't consider any of you SOBs...

You all have contributed to the knowledge base and discussions in the forums, and understand the difference between arguing and insulting.

Welcome, again.

I haven't posted here in a long time, but I used to check in alot. I'm Kate, an AW married to a RM, Igor. We met when he was a foreign exchange student (living with my family) when we were both still in high school We didn't get along at all then, but on a family vacation to Russia a few years after he lived with my family we fell in love and the rest is history. I lived in Russia for a little more than 2 years with him and now we are both in the states. Yesterday was our two year wedding anniversary!

I am in nursing school and work at a psychiatric clinic. My husband is working for a company that does GPS systems and digital mapping. We recently bought an apartment in Moscow and are planning on moving back there as soon as I finish school in a year.

I found this board looking for answers about the visa process and I have really appreciated the help I recieved....namely from ConnerVT and JimFL. A very knowledgeable pair!

Hi Kate. Check your PMs.

*sigh*

Well, I guess I feel left out ..... I can't quite proclaim myself as an arrogant SOB but......

I'm a 37 y.o. Black (African-American, for the P.C.) male.

I wasn't looking for a Russian woman but through an unrelated news article saw a link for a Russian dating site.

I had NEVER seen such a thing and fund it quite interesting. In short, saw a stunning lady, thought I was crazy but decided to write to a few ladies and ended up engaged to that stunning lady after all!

She was the only reason I considered writing to RW. There was something about her I can't describe.

I did a search on google, found many forums but this was the one I liked best and found to be the most informative.

My background:

I have an Electronics degree and an extensive background in computers (from IMSAI 8080 til the present). I have written proprietary software and worked side jobs as an engineer designing electronic devices, even some in the early days of HDTV and anti-theft devices.

I haven't written software for many years but I was a bit of a guru with assembly language and wrote a lot in the past in Fortran 77 and Basic.

While I do have an Electronics degree I never completed everything I had planned to do but have many college credits. I either have money and no time or time and no money......

I worked in the private sector but after I lost my job I settled for a less paying but more stable government job

I do technical work in a government job.

Hobbies:
Electronics, Music, Firearms, Autos (Mostly MOPARS, also Triumphs and a few rare others).

I chose the name "searcher" because I was searching for information about the international/Russian/FSU dating scene. I tend to always have questions.

Posted by: Maclode

I am new here, I am recently divorced. I came to the site because I seem to attract the unsolicited emails that appear to be russian girls from my yahoo personals profile. I need to know more about the FSU ladies. I have been very interested in the site for the last month or so. I am considering correponding with someone from the FSU, but need to know all the specifics before I take that step. I really like the atmosphere here, I can tell there are allot of intellegent, kind people. I am glad I found the site.
Now more about me. My name is Jeff and I live in Washington State. I work in the computer field on a goverment base under contract. I hunt and fish, and most hobbies revolve around either computers or doing something outside. I am still getting used to being single.

Take care
Jeff

Well, I can't call myself an SOB since I'm not a guy and my mother wasn't a B!

My screen nic is what my Russian-speaking DM, cousins, friends, and patients call me. I work in public health and speak Russian and French (and occasionally English) on the job.

I'm second-generation American, granddaughter of immigrants from various parts of the former Russian Empire. My father's forebears (from Lithuania and Ukraine) pretty much all came to the US, my mother's parents were each the only members of their respective families to emigrate (from what is now modern-day Belarus).

I wasn't looking for a "Russian" man, or any other kind, when I found my DM. We are distantly related and originally met five years ago during my first trip to Belarus, the result of a successful search for my maternal relatives there. But we didn't become a couple until last year, when we "noticed" each other at his sister's wedding in Moscow.

We decided on the K-1 just a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for some documents from him so that I can begin the process of getting him here.

Searcher was kind enough to PM me (at another forum where I had posted about wanting to connect with other AW involved with men from the FSU) and to point me to RMP.

Hi Lindochka...

Thanks for contributing to the AW-RM forum discussions, and to the RMP in general.

It's good to have American women's perspectives as well.

Hi All. I'm new to this forum. I've posted a few times. Actually, I am not very smart about these forums so I mostly try to gain knowledge by reading what others have written. I am going to Saint Petersburg on Sept 1st, returning Sept 13. Going to see a beautiful woman who I've been corresponding with for a couple of months through emails and telephone conversations. We are very anxious to meet and find out more about each other. I never dreamed in a million years that I would be traveling to Russia to meet a woman for the possibility of marriage. I am now trying to learn all I can about the visa process in the event I come home engaged. It that happens I am sure I will be asking members here for their advince and input. (The nmnative is because I am from New Mexico but now live and work in Las Vegas, NV).

Posted by: ozarklowrider

I fell into this site while looking for info about visas and have learned very much. Let me thank you all for the info you have posted. It sometimes confuses me, but I'm working thru that. I started emailing two women in Russia, but have since concentrated on just one. She seems to be a wonderful girl and we email often. We have been emailing for a month and we both want to meet. She is checking to see what needs to be done on her end to make a trip to Florida to visit and from this site I see it isn't as easy as jumping on a plane and flying here. I am by training a radio announcer and voice actor for radio and tv commercials. I don't have tons of money laying around, so I would like to know...How do you all travel to Russia soooooo much? It isn't cheap! I can't see me flying there for a day or two and returning. If I get near Natalya I will not want to come home without her. How do you cope? She has not asked for money or anything from me. I am willing to purchase her plane ticket, but she has not asked me to. I need advice on how to manage this relationship and the turmoil we will face in the future if we want to be a family. Any suggestions? My handle here is ozarklowrider, but mom called me Tommy, so you may too. Take care, look forward to being a friend to you all from here on.

Posted by: nmnative

Hello Tommy - From what I understand it is almost impossible for a single woman to get a tourist visa to visit the US. Travel to Russia is not that expensive. I've budgeted about 3500 for a two week visit to Saint Petersburg Sept 1st including airfare. I am spending a little more an an apartment because I want a little more convenience. Hope this helps.
Gene

Posted by: ozarklowrider

3500 is alot for me right now. I really did not expect to fall for someone that didn't live in America. You know, dinner, dancing, a couplt hundred bucks and we are on our way! Yippee!!!! Now I am fasinated by a girl that lives across the world. Have I lost my mind? I thingk not. I know God has a plan, I just didn't realize it would be this. Man, What a curve he has thrown me......Thanks

Posted by: nmnative

Tommy - I dont want to sound too negative here, but if I were you, I would go very slow before falling off the deep end. How did you meet this girl? Have you talked to here on the telephone yet? Does she have her own computer or is she e-mailing from and Internet cafe? Most Russian Woman who are seeking marriage/relationship with foreign men very much aware how difficult it is for them to obtain a tourist visa to the US. I am not saying she is scamming you, I am only saying to be careful and smart and keep a good grip on your wallet until you are absolutely certain your girl is for real.

Posted by: ozarklowrider

Thanks Gene, She has not asked for money ever and has said she will cover the costs for this one. You are right I don't know if she is for real or not, but I am no fool(yet). I have been reading alot on this site and will keep a lock on the wallet for now. She tells me that some of her family is going to help with expenses for the first trip and have offered an apartment if I come to visit her in Russia. She lives in Safonovo, anyone ever heard of it? I've seen it on the map but not much info. I am willing to pay for flight if needed, but only if it can't be cashed in by her. I would rather lose the money to the airline than be ripped off. We are going slow(maybe not slow enough), but my money is already tight and cannot just throw it away,so I don't think I will get ripped. This is why I joined this site, for help. Thank you very much and keep it coming

Hi

saw this tread by chance, and I agree with Khashyar thats its interesting to read about the members here.

For the new members (and perhaps old) here is a little of me.

I am danish and my real name is Brian. I am 35 yo and married with a lovely RW. Soon 1 yo anniversary. I been in Russia 6 times now.

My background:
I have BA in economics and a 'MBA' in international business where I was exhange student in Iowa at UNI. Here I meet several russian, and we just at the same 'wawe' instantly. I made a decision. If I could'nt be out in the world before I was 30, then i would try to get a small part of world inside my home and bet on family life inside of a carerer. I ended up teaching and like that, so at age of 30 I had the first encounter with a RW* and got scammed. Then waited some time. Tried an american agency, no. 2 just meet a nice RM. No. 3 never answered back and with months who past, and still some money at my account, I tried one last time. And thank somebody for that. I hit the jackpot, even it was sometimes troubled water in my head, for so many reasons.

For that 'troubled water' I looked at the net for advice and help and found a yahoo site, which soon tourn into this great RMP site.

* of course, it had to be a russian, since I meet so many nice people in Iowa and at my local university, there was Lithuanians, some 'russo-lithianian' and they were also very nice.

Other info:
I have a large family, and maybe an inernational family. I am 1/8 german, my sis-in-law has british passport, because her father is and he lives in New York. My cousins has married Norwegian, German, Faroe persons and my uncle was 2nd generation polish and one of my friends is thai married.
I also just got a new house/condo in a small port town, there is starting point for the worlds 2nd longest suspension bridge. The house is located in a old park, so the 25 houses here has a great privacy, and a small community. And we just 1 hour away from Copenhagen downtown, so for me its a perfect place.

So thats all folks, Any Q, PM me.

NB: A event, from RMp I like, is that I meet Cheboureaska ??, formerly Castlestormer in Moscow. Thats was so nice.

Posted by: swindoom

ozarklowrider,

If you are in no rush to visit her you could always go latter in the year when the winter timetable starts, flights are half the price there are during the summer. I paid $800 to fly in July, London to Omsk, but only $400 in February and March, it will be cold though.

Not really sure on that one, I went there which I recommend. Not only is it easier for an American to get a visa, but then you are spending the money on yourself. Not just giving her money that you may not see again. I would have to know more information so that I could ask around. I had all that I needed in just a month, plus he paid for my whole trip which was kinda weird for me. If you have a chance I would go to see her, not the other way around. I used a travel agency and they may be able to help set you up with a guide even if you don't speak the language well. Also, there are just more things that you can never think of. I of course had the best guide in my fiance.

Posted by: searcher

Typically women that ask for money are scammers BUT for the moment lets give her the benefit of the doubt.

INSIST on visiting her first. If she is fine with that (even if it means meeting in a bigger city such as Moscow/St. Pete) then GO THERE!

Some women are misinformed and believe they can easily get a visa but often this is not so.

Hello All !! i am Larry from North Carolina, i fell upon this site looking for forums to find any information about Russians living in NC....i am now awaiting my wife's interview in Nov, and then the long road will be complete. i have been to Russia 4 times...2 times in the winter, and 2 times in the summer. i wish i had found this forum long ago. but, better late than never.

Hi,
I wasn't really sure where to post this but maybe some of you can help me. I was in Russia for two weeks and I have gotten totally addicted to some of the food. I have been able to find pelmeni since I have friends from the Ukraine here. But one of the foods I miss the most is smoked suluguni. It is very good and I know this is really a Georgian cheese, but I am really looking for it or at least a place that will ship it to my home. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks once again!

It would probably be a better to post your question in the Food and Drink Forum.

My turn to post I guess..
I'm a (nearly) 35 year old male living in Central Queensland, Australia.
For some reason I can't fathom I've always had a thing for Russian women.
(Green eyes in particular just kill me.. (-: )

Since my brother divorced some time ago he has since become engaged to a Russian woman (so maybe it runs in my family!) and he is currently embarking on the process to get her to Australia.

I'm currently writing and phoning a woman in St Petersburgh and am planning
a visit there in May next year.

I've worked in the computer industry all my working life and am currently working on a large industrial site run by a fortune 500 company. I'm not very fond of the corporate office environment..

I've also got a big interest in military history and aviation so I'm hoping to tack some things along those lines on my trip. (I'd love a visit to the Kursk area if that can be done - tank battle, not the submarine) but obviously I will need to bear in mind Russian sensitivies to such things.

My only concerns so far about marrying a RW and bringing her to the area are the difference in sizes of the cities and the complete inability to identify any sort of Russian Community in the area.

Hi everybody.

I'm an American guy and my current date mate is a beautiful Russian woman who I met in the states.

I read one article linked to this site that says that all Russian women have "chemical imbalances" and I think this one does also, but I kinda like that about her.

She's very sharp, but I have a feeling she's a little crazy. Still, she's also quite genuine, which counts a lot to me.

I seriously doubt if I'd ever marry her, but I can see us being together for the long term with a little patience. She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, and I didn't think that way until I talked with her for a while.

So I just wanted to say hello to the board. Wish me luck!

If the beautiful women of Russia have a chemical imbalance, it must not be a very important chemical.... I've just reserved my airline flight for my second visit to Saint Petersburg and I can't wait to see all those beautiful faces again...

Hello all. My name is Dale and I live in Kentucky... I'm sure anyone from America already figured that out! A pretty astute group here. I'm a computer geek for a non profit, so I love my job. I was stationed in Berlin when the wall came down, so I was able to see how the East Gemans lived during the cold war. I've hosted 3 exchange students; a daughter from the Netherlands, a son from China, and the last was a daughter from Ukraine. I sure wish I'd have learned more from Vica now LOL. I've been on RMP for almost a month now reading as well as several other sites and listening to AFA calls (easy Pin Boy!!!). I have noticed some women have wanted to meet at socials as only about 5% of men will actually travel. I've seen a profile that does not want a man who has ever attended a "social". Where would one post a question to the Ladies as to how they feel about this and WHY they feel this way? I have been called by friends and family a little naieve and too trusting. For this reason I'll be asking a lot of questions and will always take any and all advice offered!!! Please feel free to contact me!!! As for the above post, I'd hope to find the Lady that is my balance and I'm the same LOL... we're all unbalanced aren't we? Dale

Good day to all! - RMP -

I have been corresponding with Tatyana, a Russian woman in Kansk (Krasnoyarskiy Kray) for two months now. She found my email address from an online dating service, with her VIP status. It was an internet service I never used but signed up for once. When it came down to love, I always decided not to pursue an internet service, after signing up, because I was one to believe in happenstance. The story of my quest for true love is much longer, but after a long period of waiting, I prayed for hours in tears, asking God to help me let go of an old love and to send me someone who I could truly love and who would return true love. Suddenly, I receive an email from Tatyana! (“Hello dear! I have serious intensions for you”). Corresponding and dating someone outside of my home country never occurred to me until then. What a wonderful thing to see happen! It was an answer to prayer!

After many emails and picture exchanges, while bearing our souls, we found the love in our hearts for each other. Then, it was time to share everything else including phone numbers, home addresses, and a trip to Russia as soon as my passport arrived. But before exchanging this information, I received an email from her wondering why I no longer emailed her (the last email I sent at this time was three days prier). She sounded desperate and asked if I found another woman and to please tell her that I still loved her. I began to worry. What has happened? Did she receive my last email where I confess my love for her for the first time? If not, why then did she say that she had not received it? So I sent her two more emails telling her that I am here and that I have never left. No response from her! I then decided to use an alternate email address and server ISP just incase. This was a stretch but I was determined to get an email to her by whatever means possible. I began to worry more! Is she okay? Has she found another man? The silence gnawed on my conscience every day, and even now I wonder!

But after praying and meditating on this undesirable situation, with the hope of resolving the problem, it suddenly occurred to me to contact a local Russian Christian Church with their willingness to help based on their genuine concern for people, including fellow christians. And they did! Ironically, the person who decided to help me was the churches secretary, much more than a mere secretary, and her name was also Tatiana (different spelling thankfully), and she emailed my Tatyana, writing in Russian, and I was now at ease. It felt right and it was at least a step in the right direction. After all, when my Tatyana came to America she would have some new friends to ease the culture shock and be around kind hearted Russian people who helped us in the beginning of our life together. This was/is the dream!

Then, only two days later, my Tatyana sends Tatiana from the Russian Church an email briefly explaining that she indeed is having email trouble and that she would greatly appreciate help in corresponding with me through Tatiana from the Russian Church. A weight placed upon me was lifted! It couldn’t have been more settling than to hear from my Tatyana and that it was an email issue after all, from what she wrote.

I then had the Russian church send my Tatyana an email with my phone number, home address, and alternate email address. But even after all this good fortune, I still have not received a response from her nor have I received a phone call or a hand written letter! The last email from her was Sept 22! The weight from the silence is now a cross I must bare!

Of course now, I’m not sure what to do, and being an analytical thinker, so many thoughts have traveled through my mind that I am deeply saddened from the possibility of never hearing from her again! It has been over three weeks sense her last email and I’m left in the wake with nothing more than the after thought of what could be!

I care for her very much and I want nothing more than to love my Tatyana with everything I am! I want to live the life of a true love story! And being a hopeless romantic, I only wish for a beautiful life with her and to love her like any man should love a woman, from any culture, even if she is from the other side of the planet!

I will wait to hear from her with patient endurance, but until then, until I hear from my dear Tatyana, I have all of you to lean on and to be thankful for while the silence persists!

Thank you all for your suggestions and for your heartfelt thoughts.

Hello folks,
this is "Jacktar"- real name Ray, I'm not sure how to say my piece so forgive me if I wander.
I was married for 27 years to a Chinese lady who decided that I was 'surplus to requirements' and had an affair,[so much for oriental faithfulness]. That was 9 years ago, since then I've held a complete moratorium on women and devoted myself to helping my two sons get on in life. Russia, as a country has always fascinated me, and about 4 years ago the thought of Russian women was brought to mind by my cousin marrying a Ukrainian lady. She dotes on him and is a great cook too, my interest was piqued. Since then I've been 'haunting' Russian sites, and reading all I could though some of it seems contradictory or downright mis-leading. Imagine my joy at 'stumbling' over your site,- I think I've hit the 'motherlode'.
I have a few problems though, I've never been able to write to a lady, because I'm 'stuck' in the US till my pension is due. [It was my ex's idea to come here]. I cannot wait to go home to UK, but that won't be till 2007. Even then, I'll have to wait till 2008 to collect all my endowment money accrued here in the States, because of tax reasons. By then, I'll have reached the 'creaky' old age of 63!!! Then, starts the process of finding and buying a house,- it's no laughing matter starting from scratch at that age. I'm old-fashioned in my outlook, in that before you can write to a lady and contemplate marraige, you must be responsible and have a decent home to offer her. That is only fair, especially as she would be leaving her's to come to mine.
Futhermore, I read repeatedly, ladies ask for a man with a degree and "athletic build'. Well I only have a Secondary education, though I did some associate degree studies in the Service, and here in the States. Also, I was built for comfort not speed, and due to a couple of industrial injuries to my legs and back, I'm often in pain and sometimes use a stick. To add to this I'm not too hot in the 'looks' department,- I could send a train up a dirt road, yuk. yuk. I've found in life, it pays NOT to be an SOB - rather be humble- you make more friends that way........
So, good people, thanks for reading this 'massive-missive'. What do you think? Should I go ahead with my quest, or give up and grow roses?........

Hi Ray, welcome,

Forget the roses (unless you are giving them to a lady!!) You are never too old!! what did that famous actress say (I think it was Mae West) "you're only as old as the women you feel!" there is probably a lovely lady out there somewhere in a similar position thinking if only I could find a man! The hard thing is finding her, but if you don't start then that task will never be fullfilled!! the sooner you start the sooner it will happen!!!

So I say, go for it now!!! don't wait, start looking, just be honest with your correspondence from the start and you won't have any problems, I am sure.

Hello Ray, and welcome.....i agree with Chris, after traveling to the FSU several times, i can honestly tell you that there are many wonderful and honest women also looking for happiness. also, the vast percentage of women live, and have always lived in apartments...owning your own home for them is not a requirement...just be honest about yourself when you write...and remember..beauty is in the eye's of the beholder...you never know until you try...what do you have to lose ??

Posted by: skinsfan

Hello Edward, and welcome...In Russia, there can be many situations why e-mail is slow...that being said, if you do not hear any info in a reasonable amount of time, then maybe something else is going on. also, be careful...too many people fall in love with letters...usually these letters can fill an emotional void for you at the time....unfortunately, there are also preditors out there..be careful. until you actually meet and spend time with a woman, it is impossible to realistically understand what is real love. Forums such as this helps you navigate through this adventure of hope......i sincerely hope that your dreams come true......

Dear Cheetahbum,
I heard your plaintive cry for Russian cheese,- perhaps this can help http://russianfoods.com/home/default.asp I'm no expert but they seem to carry a large range of foods. If they don't have it perhaps they can get it for you. I live in New York, which has it's own "Little Russia" down on a 15 block length of Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. If you could contact anyone close to there, that may be a second route of supply. Hope this helps.

God Bless,

Dear Chrismc & Skinsfan,
thanks guys for your kind words of support, I have to admit I'm getting pretty lonely after all these years. Actually, my marraige was on the skids a few years before we broke-up, I hung-on for the sake of the kids but we crashed and burned anyway. I could'nt go through that again if you paid me.......
Anyway, I mean to get the house first, as I'm sick of apartment life myself, no garden, no workshop to potter in, and my cats stare out of the windows with faraway looks in their eyes. Your kind words have done me a lot of good,- thanks.

God Bless,

Jacktar [Ray]

Hi people.

Thought I would do the nice thing and follow suit and introduce myself. My name is Michael, call me Mick if you want, 37 and I live in Australia , g'day to all you fellow ozzies out there, and I really believe that I live in the best country on the planet. Where the only problem is I haven't found my lady. Become interested in Russia in general in High School because I went to school with a guy who refered to himself as a white Russian. Being the inquisitive guy that I am I had to check out what a white Russian is, and I have been sort of hooked on Russia ever since.

I am what you might call a jack of all trades and a master of none, qualified mechanic, high school teacher, builders labourer and anything I put my mind to I can do, I have even worked in a plant nursery in spring with hayfever.

Anyway I have been emailing RW for a few years now, never seem to get the one for me but still willing to continue the search anyway, come across my fair share of scammers and scammer agenices, some of which are reportedly reputable but to me it is debatable. Currently in contact with 2 very beautiful women and everything is going allong swimmingly so I am happy. Anyway if anyone has any Qs? about Oz then PM me.

See ya.

hello everyone,

my name is yosvany, but people just call me yoshi. i am from the wonderful city of las vegas, nv in the us. i am not married or have ever dated a woman from russia, but i am lucky enough to have meet and are friends with people with russia. and let me tell i get along better with then than with my american friends, sounds strange but since i was born in Camito, Cuba 25 years i have always gotten along better with people from other countries.

well i tell you guys alittle about myself, since this is my first post
i am 25 years old, spent 4 years in the us navy and just got out last year. i am currently going to college, getting a BA in Homeland Security (new field).
i have been reading all of everyone's post for the past year i am told myself i think its time for my 1st post. i thank everyone for their post and info in their own lives, and yes i do plan to marry someone from east europe in the next few years, cuz i have always found then very down to earth, and they dont expect much in return, unlike most women from this country. like my mom told me when i was 25 years old, yosvany, women and (men) are like the bus, they come and go every 15 minutes. you just have to find the right one that will get you to your destination. so i like to thank my cuban mom that raised me all these years and had to put up with me. and yes i still plan to be here in this forum for years to come. and keep up the good work everyone. My Thanks from the GREEN YOSHI

I live in Lincoln Park, Mi. I am a graduate student in history. I am on the faculty at a local university, where I teach computer literacy and non-profit sector studies. I am a generalist computer support person - acting both as tech and staff programmer - for my department. While technically I am working on the history of science and technology, I recently have been consumed with learning more about Arkhangelsk. This change in direction is a result of the connection between Arkhangel and Michigan and Detroit (soldiers from Michigan fought the Soviet government in 1918-19). Also, I read Eugenie Fraser's memoir, House on Dvina over the summer, which was interesting because some of the illustrations were postcards with “Archangel”, printed in English and had English captions. This lead to me to conclude there must have been a large English-speaking presence in Arkhangel in the 19th and early 20th century.
In any case, I am interested in all things Russian. I have tried cooking Russian food, watching Russian TV series and movies (I am very interested the how the Russian films portray Americans) and of course learning to at least read Russian.

Hello to All,

My name is Jeff and I would first like to say that what the members have here in this forum is unprecedented on any other forum I have visited. True discussions, mountains of great advice, and what I feel is a true comradeship working in unison toward the same end. I would hope that I can live up to the standards you all have as I participate in these forums. I am here to learn and become wiser.

That being said, a little about myself. Southern Born, Southern Bred, US Army Retired , small construction business owner (sounds much, much more than it really is), residing in NE North Carolina, 30 minutes from The Outer Banks. My age is negotiable, calendar-wise I’m 44, but I’m still kicking around like mid-30’s. Separated since Oct 04, divorce finalizes Dec 05 (what a Christmas present), and my soon to be ex is German (been through the foreign marriage issues on a different level but I am convinced that these issues will definitely offer something for the forum.

What I am about to say is not meant to offend anyone but I’ll say it. Having lived in Europe for 11 years and even though a 15 year foreign marriage did not succeed, I must say that I will continue my search for that ‘One’ everyone talks about, across the waves. That is what indirectly led me here.

I look forward to the discussions, advice, and the process of making friends with you guys.

Jeff

PS: skinsfan check your PM.

Okay....hmmm..

I'm a guy on verge of hitting 25 next month.

I don't know what I am doing on here, except that, I've met a few girls from the FSU in my journies while I was in the Air Force, and I don't think I've ever met girls that had such a great outlook on life and wanting to be happy to be with someone.

nomarriage.com is a quick sum up of everything about American girls I hate

its late

I'll post more when I wake up after work.

after 2 years on this forum I suddenly stumbled upon this thread, so let me copy-paste here one of my first posts from 2003:

I was born on Halloween 1978 here in Omsk (you can take a few minutes to find it - halfway from Moscow to Beijing, also halfway from Aral Sea to the Arctic Ocean). In 2001 I was certified a Dentist, in 2003- a Prosthodontist, in 2004- a Dental Surgeon. Also looking forward to getting a degree in Implantology 2-3 years from now. My major hobbies are

hip hop music (sorry middle class Americans but that's where I learned my English from)

backgammon (can beat anyone my age)

billiards (once in a fortnight)

also carting (sometimes)

skating (I was a figure skater in my childhood)

and I've also performed 2 parachute jumps (broke my leg on the 2nd one).

Recently I found myself hugely interested in communicating with foreigners. I dont know why, but I have something like THIRST for talking with foreigners about my country. Every foreigner that happens to arrive here looks totally disorientated, and everyone around seems eager to help him, but nobody knows the language well enough, so I happen to be the only one to talk about my city and Russian culture with them.

So lately I just went to AltaVista and typed smth like Russians Meet Foreigners and popped in here.

Hope it's for long.

peace

Dude--- Your English is so good . . .

***ITS STAGGERING***

andrei, how did you EVER get so good at English?

By comparison... Brad will NEVER speak Russian as well as you speak English.

So getcha azz around here, we're gonna drink some beer and I'll tell you how to learn a language just watching movies and listening to the music)))

For sure he did, and keep in mind that when me and Nelli were busy during the day he was staying at the hotel, he only went out in the evenings when we were picking him up; and he still was very pleased with the trip; I wonder what he'd have said if it was a lil bit warmer and he could walk around by himself all day!

Someone else who knows Assembly language! Let alone Fortran or Basic. We have that in common. I haven't written much in years either... Not unless you include Visual Basic for Geographic Information Systems.

I'm divorced, 46, 2 teenaged kids. That's it.

Just kidding... lol

I currently attending university, getting a Bsc in Geography, and minoring in Archaeology. (humans not dinosaurs... lol) Have another year to go yet. Not too sure what I am going to be when I grow up, not sure I want to. Just work I guess, where ever that takes me.

I live in northern BC, canada. I love to joke around and have lots of fun. Been alone for a good 10 years now, and getting kinda lonely.

I've written to lots of FSU women in the last 6 months, but found mostly scammers. Looking for a nice lady. Know anyone?

Hey if you're curious about western canada, or just want to shoot the bull, I'd be happy to chat.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen!

Here I want to introduce myself.
My name is Masha. Or Mary, or Mariya – full name in Russian.
I am a usual Russian girl, brunette, blue eyes. I prefer classic or often sexy(!!!) style of dress. I don't have any tattoos or pirsing.
I am a student. I am studying at Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. My department is business-informatics. My future job will be concerned with the field of management in the IT. At this moment of my life I study a lot cuz in the future want to realize my potential...Two years ago I came to Moscow to study at university from the small town (Kirovo-Chepetsk) which is located on the north of Russia. I have got into the habit to reach all my goals. I try to be true toward my family, friends cuz it's impossible for me to imagine my life without them. I love them much.
I am interested in many things. I like to make new friends and communicate with clever extraordinary persons. I like to learn something new. Art, modern music, artificial intelligence, all that concerned with IT aren't all the things which I am keen in.
I prefer many kinds of music. Shaggy, 50 Cent, Nelly, Puff Daddy. Akon, Maroon 5(!!!!), The Servant, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Lenny Kravits, Greenday, Plazma etc etc etc are my favourites bands. My favorite movies are "Pretty Woman", "A Lot Like Love", "Walk To Remember", "Troy", “The Notebook”.
My quote is “Impossible is not a fact. It's only an opinion”. I follow to these simply words during all my life.
I would like meet new friends from other countries....such things as colour of skin, weight, height aren't important for me. I will be glad to make a friendship with all people who are interested in me. And hope that one of them will teach me to fly……

Thanks in regard, Masha.

Hello. My name is Seth, but I'm often called Seryozha by my Russian friends/classmates. I'm a double major undergrad at the University of Hawaii Manoa, studying in human Communication and Russian language. I am considering a minor degree in Business Administration if time allows. I have returned back to Hawaii from a semester studying film and Hindi in Bombay, India, under the tutelage of Asha Chandra. I'm 21 years old and have a year and a half left at school. I hope to use my degrees prepare for graduate school, either Law school or a master's degree in language. With a study abroad in Vladivostok planned for next summer, my long-term goal is to work with our government in the U.S. and foster closer ties with our Russian neighbors, in order to strengthen both Russia and the United States economically and politically. Thus, I anticipate a prospective law degree to be used in the services of my country as an Ambassador or Diplomat.

In my spare time I enjoy surfing at Waikiki or Kailua beach, writing screenplays, film acting, riding my motorcycle, or kicking back with my friends. I joined RMP to meet Russian folks in order to learn more about the culture and language. Also, it has been interesting seeing the differing points of view of Americans' perception of Russian life, culture, politics, etc.

I see Russian and American cultures as differing, but not "exotic" to each other. I believe both countries have much to learn about each other. I would like to know more about Russian society in order to better understand our own environment, here in America.

hi y' all sorry couldn't resist as I'm really from England.
Why Hostile-hostage ( supposed to be Hostile-Hostages ) my all time favourite film ( also released as The Ref)

I first had the idea of getting in touch with Eastern European women after watching a documentary 6 years ago.
After a couple of failed relationships i finally started this adventure.
It wasn't easy as i was in touch with some really nice women ( some not so nice - 'scammers' ) but there was nothing to say 'let's go with this'. Then last October, just as i was about to give up i met someone who could turn out to be a major part of my future. I don't earn a lot but i have managed to scrape some money together in order to travel to Chernivtsy (Ukraine) at the end of March.
I found this site by accident and have enjoyed reading and posting threads.
Here's to 2006!!!

Posted by: saking

My name is Steve.
I am 32, I live in Missouri, south of Kansas City by two hours. I am a semi retired Law Enforcement Officer raising my two young daughters. I had a friend of mine I worked with tell me about Russian Ladies and culture after I lost my wife and son in an accident with an 18 wheeler. So I have been browsing the web for a couple of months, and today i found this site and forum! In one day, I have had SO many questions awnsered and it has been pretty interesting. So, I went to the end of the forums list and placed my own add under western men seeking... Hopefully I will meet someone wonderful. I love the discussions here. As I said, it has been very informative, and helpful. Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you all, and enjoy reading your threads/post on here. If I meet someone, and end up married, I plan on introducing her to as many of you as I can on here or in person because I know that coming to a new country, and culture will be shocking, and I would rather see her smiling and happy, and able to be around others in the same situations.
Thanks!
Steve

Who knows, maybe someday I might be able to say hi in person! All told I have been to several places in the world when I was in the Army. And all 48 states and Canada. My daughters have been in 45 of 48. Have yet to travel with them out of the country due to their ages, (8 and 5) as well as being a single parent now. Kind of leery of undertaking that task on my own! But, hey, if your ever in Missouri, let us know!! We are about 2.5 hours from Branson and Bass Pro headquarters in springfield! (home away from home, am an avid outdoors nut! love fishing!) anyways, hope to talk to ya sometime. left you a private post earlier with my contact information.

Sincerely,
Steve

I may ramble some so please be patient..

My name is Dennis. Live in Valdosta, Georgia currently -- that's US Georgia, of course. A short 20 miles from the Florida state line.

I'm 50. Age is in fact just a number, though I've never really been attracted to younger women. Just found more in common with mature women, even when I was much younger. Until now, that I'll get to shortly...

I'm divorced, twice actually. Married once real young, lasted 22 years. Have a 30 year old daughter by that marrige. Second time was for 5 years and was a disaster.

The 2nd ex literally deserted me. We owned a small Quarter Horse ranch in Oklahoma and had sold it to move to LA --- where she lived when I met her. Long story short, she got the ranch proceeds into her business account, took that and everything in the house and disappeared while I was away. So, much for "scammer" RW -- they come in all nationalities.

So, I've been solo and to be honest, lonely for going on 2 years now. Yes, I have dated minimally and not been thrilled with it. I do have alot of online friends and aquaintances world-wide, so the distance relationship doesn't scare me off.

Anyway, I've posted to a few online dating or "bride" sites and have literally recieved well over 200 responses in the last couple of months or so. From Russia, Ukraine, Ubekistan -- but also Central and South America, the "Orient", Africa and a HUGE number of US as well.

Anyway, the one and only one of all these letters that really struck home with me was from a 29 year old (yes 29) doctor from Yaransk, Russia. I was really hesitant -- I am 20 years older afterall. I have a daughter older than her for gosh sakes!! But her honest, charming and forthright ways have won me over in no time.

I even talked to my dear old mom about her and she said, "no Dennis, you aren't being foolish", basically go for it.

Anyway, I've browsed this site for a day or so and found it interesting and informative. I'm a forum advocate and belong to serveral along different subject lines. You can learn alot.

That's what I'm here for. I want to pick up on the subtle cultural differences so as not to make a "dork" of myself unknowingly. Learn from the past experiences of others and accept any helpful comments and suggestions.

Guess that about wraps it up...
Dennis (inGeorgia)

Thanks for the welcome. This is all quite "foreign" to me.. pun intended.

Never tried the online dating/marriage thing, at least not in any organized way. I did meet a few women from AOL chat rooms several years ago - in between wives.

Interesting info and people here as well. Been browsing the site quite a bit as I had yesterday, today and tomorrow off from work.

Serveral things come to mind, be patient they may not have home Internet access to reply quickly, the COL difference (though it doesn't mean alot without hard references, like this costs X $ and there it costs X $), the assumption one must be wealthy to consider a multi-national relationship (well then I better just pack up and go home, the ex left me in a bankruptcy situation after she stole, yes stole all the money). That's OK, I been broke, but never "poor". Things reverse themselves - especially fianances.

Hello to all, I just recently found this site and I am happy I have. To continue this topic I am 23 and currently going through a rough time in my life (more on this in the future). I currently live in Phoenix but grew up in Chicago and like (if I remeber correctly) "INLOVE" I share the love for Chi-town. I miss the city desperatly but my job has moved me to Texas (Dallas) and now to Phoenix, AZ. I became interested in meeting someone from Russia or Eastern Europe when I learned of the women's views of life and family. I came from a poor family where all we had was eachother so I respect a good family life and a good view on life and a "never give up attitude". I have given up on finding an American girl/woman for many reasons which I will not discuss in this post. Before I could get too involved in meeting someone from Russia or the Ukraine, I learned I was probably going to become a father (after many lies from the mother). Because of who I am and my background/upbringing I decided to make it my priority to put everything in which happened in the past with the mother, forgive her, and place all of my energies into starting over from scratch and hopefully a new life together. I decided to support her in every way I could so I had her move into my home about 3-4 months into the pregnancy. Our daughter, Kirstyn, was born Aug 22nd of '05. Kirstyn quickly became not only the best that has ever happened to me but she is my pride and joy and has made all of my decisions worth it all. Unfortunaly, this is where my happiness ends (even though Kistyn has brought more happiness to my life than I could ever imagine possible). Through-out the pregnancy and even up to now mom has been everything I have never wanted. I tried harder than anything to make this work (mainly for our daughter) but all efforts became futile and the lies continued. We went through couples counceling to help but the councelor basically gave up and referred her to individual therapy. I could never bring myself to move mom from my home because this would mean I would not be able to see Kirstyn as much as I would like. I am faced with a double-edge sword. Kirstyn is my pride and joy but without another to have a stable, healthy, and secure family with, I am left with this emptiness in me that would like to fill. I hope I will find a girl/woman in Russia or the Ukraine in which I can share these feelings with and develope more feelings that last and can become the building blocks to a more secure and healthy life and family. I apologize this post has gotten entirely out of hand and really developed into a "this is me, please hear my sob-story". I actually feel better now that I have wrote this. This is my first post of this nature (of any kind on any website) and after my self feeling better now, there will probably be many more. I appreciate all help and advice I can get regarding getting aquianted with Russia and/or Ukraine. I feel I am very analytical (or as some people put it - anal) so I like to learn as much about a topic before I make decisions regarding the topic. I hope this all makes sense and I have not made myself out to seem too ridiculous or anything along those lines.

Nice to meet all

After reading your posts for the last 4 months, I finally decided to post. I just arrived home from Russia where I spent the last three weeks with the woman of my dreams. She lives in Izhevsk,we spent two weeks there and then celebrated the new year in Moscow. I was impressed with how well her family treated me, the friendly people, the good food, a good agency to work with and most of all with my new bride to be. I want to thank Kieth for his insights about Izhevsk. And I know I will have many questions about the paperwork ahead of me. This is a great site and it made a differance in my travels adding to my knowledge base about Russia before my trip. Thanks to everyone.

Hi, I’m another Jeff. 31 and in the Midwest. Divorced, no kids… I came across this site searching for info. I’ve been interested in the FSU since a child as I grew up an army brat, and then as a soldier myself. I even took a semester of Russian in college. (I can’t remember anything)… I met my gal through an instant messenger program (ICQ) about 6 months ago. I was talking with 5 or 6 people trying to get info on visiting Russia this spring. We just kept talking. I ended up hopping a plane on the first of the year and meeting up with her in Kiev (she’s from N. of Moscow). I appreciate all the information you have here, as I have a lot to think about and am seeking to gain as much knowledge of the culture and learn from your previous experiences.

Hello All,
My name is Ian, I am 41 and live in England, I found this site though Elena's Models and found THAT site after being targeted by a scammer (who I am still stringing along waiting for bank details).
I started looking at FSU women after dating a 27 y/o Czech woman in the UK, eventually she broke my heart and ran off with a chav, but it spurred me into dating again; something I havent dont for quite a few years.
(def. "chav" -- baseball cap, fake designer clothes and 9ct gold plated bling, usually drives a dodgy souped up shopping tolley, in this case a Honda Civic).
great site, I just wish it loaded faster and didnt keep timing out.

Do I tell are do I not tell? That is the question. Is it nobler to respect this cyberspace and deny the diversity that I may bring to the forums, or should I bravely step forward with all the truth and be the first of my kind to enter here?

I have never been a crusader of any social cause and have no intentions to become one now; however, I too have started to fall in love with a beautiful Russian, and have a new burning interest about them and their country.

As a new crusader for love, I am going to tell you folks the truth, all of it.

I am a 51 year young college educated man with 3 degrees living outside of Dallas. My profession has been electronics and computers related. I have had 5 successful long term relationships in my life till now. Marriage was never an option. I come from very good stock and have a very loving family and support group here.

The fact that I have always been a gay male is very normal to me. If I had a choice to choose lifestyles, I would not be one today. I have been alone and not looking for nearly 3 years now.

In May of 2003 I became very sick and learned that I was the next unlucky soul that day to find out he had AIDS. Due to the miracle of modern medicine, I am now in total remission and virus free. It is a chronic condition and no longer a death sentence. I had to tell you this to explain how I found my Russian love.

Nearly 2 months ago I posted a personal ad in a website for people HIV+. I have vowed to never give this bug to anyone even if it means never loving again. The next day my first answer came from a very young freshman (19) studying computer science in a university outside of Moscow. NIckolay wrote near perfect English and his story grabbed my heart.

He lives in a very rural area hundreds of miles from the capital. He taught himself English in less than 3 months reading technical manuals about computers and using the internet for translation. He has the most photographic memory of anyone I have ever seen. My IQ is rated in the top 5% and this kid is brilliant to me beyond description. He is going to be a code writer and already freelances for very good money by Russian standards. His clients are mostly foreign companies online. He takes the jobs and dreams how best to write the code, and wakes up and jots it down. He remembers every line.

He is HIV+ from receiving tainted blood as a child. He has never been with anyone intimately. We have spent hundreds of hours already online in IM and by voice and each day our bond grows stronger. He is applying for a visa to come to America this summer, and if that fails, I am also preparing to go to Russia, or we will meet somewhere else. He will not take a dime from me and insist on paying his own way. If our chemistry is 10% in person what it is online, I know it is a go for both of us.

Did I forget to mention the golden blond hair, and sapphire sparkling blue eyes? Those are small qualities for a true gifted genius who now whispers to me only each night in Russian and takes my breath away.

I thought my life was over when I was diagnosed. Now I believe that the best years of my life have just begun. The first time I heard Nick speak Russian to me, I could see angels smiling out the corner of my eye.

If two souls in our situation can find each other online, this technology is the true miracle that can work for anyone. However I believe that something bigger than the internet made our match happen. He is so intelligent and gifted I know I have a serious responsibility to help that young man become someone who in time may change this world.

That is who I am. I have begun to fall in love with a beautiful Russian who says this is what he wants too. I believe that qualifies me to be in this forum and to learn what I must learn to make our future happen. He will finish school there and we will decide after that what happens.

Life is so ironic and funny sometimes. It took the curse of HIV, to lead me to what may very well be the lifetime love of my life.

Thank you for reading our story.
Samurai Bob

Nickolay is 19 now and here is a picture of him last summer at 18. He is nearly 6 ft tall, and a good 5 inches over me.

Well those of us who are vertically challenged are accustomed to looking up at people!

Well Samurai_Bob,I hope all gos well for you and Nickolay, but wow what an age differance.

But then again, what dose age have to do with it.

Good luck, hope you have found what your looking for.

Posted by: Samurai_Bob

HIV/Aids changes everything. Nick's situation is not good and it is known about his condition. I will not trouble you with the horror and hatred he has learned to live with. A leper would fare better in that culture perhaps. It is very difficult for someone in rural Russia who is gay to find someone, and impossible with HIV. And, he found me; he wanted a computer scientist. Our common professions made for an interesting penpal but he moved real fast to tell me he wanted much more.

I have both eyes open and I am very aware of the age difference. Next to him I will soon age very rapidly. I expect his attitude will change after his transistion this summer. I will never try to hold him back from a better mate. I even tried to encourage him to date girls but he rejected that idea totally.

How could I turn down that little man and the job of making him happy?
I wasn't seeking a boy, but I will not reject him now, or the responsibility given to me.

For now I am all he has, until I die are he finds someone better.
If I am only a bridge for him over these troubled waters, I am still very blessed. His needs are acute and cannot be ignored by I.

This does come to me with some very interesting beliefs to deal with:
IM chat just yesterday.....

nick:
anyway military pays for you medicine

Samurai:
yes, if I live in America

Samurai:
and it cost over $100,000 each year for me to stay alive.

nick:
they must pay, they invented this virus the pentagon

Samurai:
I have heard that too. No, viruses come from nature, and at the same time AIDS happened for all mammals like dogs, cats, whales, dolphins, elephants, etc.

Samurai:
The first cases were in Africa in the 70s

Samurai:
American aids was traced to an airline steward male, who traveled to Africa and lived in New York, the first American city to show infections in the late 70s

nick:
they was experimenting with apes in 70s, in their secret laboratory in africa they was creating immortal superhuman to use it in army

(later)

nick:
i can write gui windows better with linux and they would never be anymore viruses why nobody see this my programming professor is so dam stuped

(he moves from dazzling intellegence to total BS at light speed-I hope I can handle this one, so complex :-)
He is worth it, and so much more.

I'm going to take a guess then, Samurai, if you don't mind. You were the one who asked Khasyar to post the question about gay relationships between AM and RM? If so, I will add one thing. There was some talk on the thread about whether or not a gay couple could apply for a K-1 visa if they lived an area that had some form of gay marriage. As much as I would still like to see someone try this (to see what the reaction would be on the part of INS and, hey, someone's got to be the first to try), I need to make one more point. And I am very sorry for this--I realize you have both been through so much and don't want to compound that. However, part of the immigration process for a foreign citizen is taking an HIV test. In order words, there probably isn't much chance that he will be allowed to immigrate to the US. If your relationship continues to grow and you do want to be together, you will need to speak to a good immigration lawyer about how to get him here (there may be a loophole somewhere--don't know). The test is not necessary for short term visas, though--only people planning to immigrate.

In addition--and I'm not sure if this is true anymore, I haven't been to Russia in a while and they may have chaged the law--Russia requires westerners planning to stay long term in Russia to also pass an HIV test (I don't think it's necessary for short term visits, though).

Again, my apologies for being a downer, but it is something you should be aware of as you begin to think of the future. I do wish you both the best.

Posted by: Jill

BTW, thank you for having the courage to post your story here. It's nice to see different kinds of people and relationships--it defintely adds to the forum

Posted by: Samurai_Bob

I wrote PM to Khasyar, who posted the questions about gay relationships between AM and RM as I was then uncomfortable to be myself in the forum. I was so moved by the positive responses and the intellegence of the members on all the forums, I lost my fear and decided to open up.

This is a great forum as outlined for learning about FSU people and matters between them and the West. It was Khasyar's idea to post the questions and I thought it was a good idea.

I have expected hurdles on the HIV issue. In the beginning we could not travel to many countries but that has changed. I spoke briefly with a friend who is a civil attorney who mentioned the idea of adoption and plenty of money might make things happen. Personally I find that extreme at this point and feel that by the time Nickolay will start working, or want to go to grad school (and a very fine one is right here in Dallas for software engineers) the laws may be different. That is 3 years away. And i should mention despite all he has been through he loves Russia and his family there deeply, and isn't trying to leave. He is just tired of being alone.

I will state again that I am not entering this with the expectations of someone expecting a mate/partner; however, I will take it one day at a time, and help him all I can. If all I do is love him online, I may have saved a very special life.

Thanks for your very kind words, and very good advice.

A very moving story Samurai Bob,

I can imagine it took you a long time to find the courage to speak out on here, and I like Jill thought straightaway as I read your post, that it was you, that had approached Khashyar, welcome to the RMP.

I like the others that have posted here, wish you every success in your journey.

Keep us informed how it unravels.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to take an HIV test for a student visa. As far as I know this issue becomes a problem only when one is applying for an immigrant visa (K1, K3, and bunch of others), including a green card.

This is not my first rodeo and I love everybody just Nickolay quite a bit more. For a geek, he is a really sweet geek!

We are now the best of friends online and just last night spent hours quoting poetry to each other: him speaking Russian and me telling English poems. I was up till 4:30 am !

I perhaps was a bit mussy in the first entry and clear up my true intentions later on in the forum.

Hi africanchile, welcome to the RMP.You will learn alot here about Russian people, culture and many other usefull things.

We have some regular women on this site that have married men from the FSU.Off hand I can think of Jill, she knows alot.

If you have questions about anything, someone will try to help.We all started in the same place as you are, wanting to learn more.

Af,
I you want to learn about Russia I suggest the Berlitz 3-CD course. Learn the lingo then you can slingo. What you pick up on this website about Russian chiquitas will be pretty biased. This is a sort of lovey dovey forum where everyone wants to be super nice to slavishly fit in to the community. But despite my caustic comments they do have some good points and their hearts, if not their minds, are in the good place. Just take all the stuff here with a large grain of salt.
