Tracking of IP address of emails

Hi all,

Wish you all well! A short question: how do you actually trace the IP address of emails send to you? I am talking to someone now and am still trying to make sure she's no scammer. Thanks for helping.

Thanks ConnerVT. Tried it. Tough though...not too sure if these make sense. She uses computers from a internet cafe and seems that every email address (presumably written from diff. machine) leads me to a different source location - sometime Moscow, sometime France, sometime Korea - based on the IP address tracing. I even tried tracing my OWN location and the result said I am from NJ (wrong of course!)

Well, nonetheless, thanks!

I use this page: http://www.dnsstuff.com/

On my email account I can select "show all headers." That shows the IP address where the email was sent from. Copy it into the box on the dns page that says "City from IP."

Thanks Jason,

I tried the website - very cool. But the results are the same, as in every of her emails comes with a IP that seems to originate from a different country all around the world. I have China, USA, Italy, France, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea etc.

The best explanation may be that the computers at the cafe all have dynamic IP addresses and access to the internet is done with a dialup connection through a long-distance phone line. Or, perhaps the computers all use Proxy.

So, perhaps checking IP address is not really that robust? Comments? Thanks guys!!
