Lilya 4 Ever

I highly recommend this motion picture by director Lukas Moodysson.

Moreover the movie was shot in russian, so it's nice for both russian language speakers and those interested in russian culture alike. The DVD has of course english subs.

Synopsis:Set in a dismal suburb somewhere in the former Soviet Union (possibly Estonia, where it was filmed), this is the story of a teenage girl named Lilya (Akinshina) whose mother has recently run away to live in America, abandoning her.

A few reviews:
The New York Times
The most remarkable achievement of the film is its presentation of Lilya's story as both an archetypal case study and a personal drama whose spunky central character you come to care about so deeply that you want to cry out a warning at each step toward her ruination. .

LA Weekly
Lilya is the more genuinely unsettling film because Moodysson seems to actually know something of what it is to take and stumble beneath a crushing blow. You feel that here. And you feel it for days after.

Washington Post
Lilya's struggle to make a life for herself is both heartbreaking and heart-stirring.

The movie is currently available on the bittorrent network here

It's the original soundtrack in russian with subtitles for english, german, danish, swedish, norwegian, romanian, italian, spanish, turkish, french, croatian, czech, portuguese.

The file is a 700 Mo file so unless you have DSL or cable it's an exervise of patience.

Michel,

I sent you a private message.

BTW does anyone know if this DVD is available for sale and if so does it have English subtitles????

I would be very interested in buying it.

Interestingly, it was the subject of an article in the eXile LOL.

I bought my copy at amazon.co.uk since I live in France, it has english subtitles.

Searcher, regarding the problem you mentioned playing the movie I can't help you with Quicktime, I never use it to watch movies. Probably your computer doesn't have the Xvid codec installed and can't play the avi file correctly.

Anyway I use 2 players for watching movies or TV series on my computer.

90% of the time I use BSPlayer you can download the free version here

and for the videos that are really damaged or have some sort of problem I use VLC media player which exists for almost all OSs (linux, Mac etc).get it here

let me know if it solves your problem.

VLC media player works great!

Wow.... some movie.... i'm kinda speechless

Posted by: searcher

I saw the DVD on eBay and it was the correct format, NTSC, but the regional coding may be a problem.

Posted by: Michel.S

I'm glad you were finally able to watch the movie thanks to VLC Searcher.

Posted by: Leprechaun

region coding can be changed, do a search for your dvd player and see if there are any cheats.... my portable now plays VCDs & any region =o)

I cant d/l that torrent =o/ too slow and no seeds

any other russian torrent sites that dont need log ins?

Hey Leprechaun,

The torrent is probably slow because there is never more than 4 peers at a time now from what I 've seen. But well to my great surprise it is still alive after all those weeks, which in itself is an accomplishment somehow for this kind of movie.

I'm seeding it when I can, it's still on my Azureus list. I currently have 2 peers and I uploaded 5.26 GO since I created it (with an upload speed of 130 kb).

Anyway Amazon.co.uk is selling it, that's where I bought my copy, if you need a fast solution.

If you have a Sam's Club in your town, they sell a DVD player for $49 USD that plays both Pal and NTSC. If you are an avid foreign film buff, it's well worth the price.

Just a tip from your Uncle Steve.
