How can I have MORE stuff packed into suitcases going back to visit my wife's family than we did when we moved here last year?
Finished packing yesterday. The hard side suitcase was over 38Kg when I first weighed it! Had to redistribute the wealth, and chance moving some of the bottles to a less sturdy suitcase. I just hope Rvr's hot sauce doesn't break, spilling on to all of the clothing in there.
It will be the first real vacation we have been able to take since we married (always difficult when you have a 6 y.o.). My MIL has been buying wine and vodka to drink with me, as everyone else in the house is a tea totaler. Wish my liver well.
The whole family was making pelmeni the other day. Made two batches of dough, and they lost count at 720. My guess is that would fill a small carry on suitcase.
We will celebrate our one year anniversary with a party of about 40 guests. My wife's family is large (My FIL is one of 8 children, most who live in/near the city). A few days later, we will head off to Sochi for some fun and sun (although it has been around 30C degrees here in VT every day so far in June).
Well, need to be at the airport in about 3 hours, so hope all of you boys and girls can play nice until I return...

Good luck and I wish your Liver well.
May it not pass out from all of the alchol.
I would have recomended putting all of the bottles in padded envelopes or at a minimum a sealed bag. But oh well if it leaks then you will have some spicy shirts, and some good salsa pants.
Good luck and have fun

Thanks for all the well wishes. I finally have my dial-up connection (although I can see that RMP is a BEAR with dialup! ).
We've been preparing for our anniversary celebration for Tuesday. I hope 20+ bottles of vodka and 25+ of champagne will be enough for 35 people!
Well, gotta go for now. See ya all soon...

I hope you have a fantastic trip, Fred....
Yes, it is important to weigh bags We do the same and use our home scale.
I look forward to the photos and the stories about your trip when you come back.

Enjoy your trip Connor.
I reckon it is so important to strengthen the ties with your wife's family. That is if you can remain conscious long enough!
I mean serious conversation can't begin until everyone has drunk 500ml of vodka. By the time the toasts are finished so am I.
I never remember the end of these parties. Tend to pass out around 10.00pm...
Glad I found your thread here the other place has melted down and I am outa there.

Lets see, half a bottle of vodka, and half a bottle of champagne per person. Well, looks like it might be too little if all the people are russian.
A quarter of a bottle of vodka per hour is not too much. You don't buy vodka in the US ?
But good luck on the trip. I found that the domestic russian airlines are most hysterical with a slight overweight.

There still was a little vodka left after the party (3 bottles?). As for not remembering the end of these parties, I too fell victim to this. I don't remember how I returned home. Had a bit of egg on my face for a few days (and a head large enough to hold quite a few dozen of them, too! )
I fell victim to my BIL Sergei and a friend of the family, Andrei, who were determined to get me plastered. But I do remember Andrei taking a good fall, and Sergei wasn't in too good shape, either. I, fortunately, am typically a quiet drunk, and hid my inebriation pretty well for some time.
Anyway, I am home now. Funny how you can travel for 24 hours straight, and still be too wound up to sleep...
