Russia and Prostitution

We know that prostitution is a pervasive problem in Russia and all x-soviet countries due to the economical problems, low income and poverty. There are many prost. in these countries (100,000 in Moscow, I read sometime ago) and many other work in west Europe and the Middle East. In fact most of the strip dancers and call girls here in west Europe are from these countries.
I once talked to one of these girls. She said she earned only $70 at her job as a salesperson in a store in Moscow but could make $ 400 a week by meeting a few (foreign) men. She said no beautiful girl in her sound mind would do those low-paid , hard and boring jobs while she can earn much more by working as a call girl. And mind you she had a college degree.
Is this the mentality of all Russian women? Do they consider prostitution as a possibility to earn more money while they have a job that although very low-paid , helps them to keep their dignity?
I know many young and beautiful western women who have a lot of financial problems . They have to support a family without a husband but body-selling is out of the question for them.
What is the status of moral values among RW at the moment?
How can we make sure that the women we contact are decent ones and not prosts.?

Hi,

There seems to be a difference between working girls in the West and those in Russia (and I'd guess it may be true of other Eastern European countries).

In Russia a lot of the girls are (from what I've read, and from the people I've met in Russia) doing this simply because they haven't got enough money to survive on.

In the UK at least, from all we see and hear, they work in this line either as a conscious choice (working as escorts, and earning big bucks per hour) or to feed drug dependencies.

No-one in the UK starves unless they want to; there is always some aid available from somewhere. That doesn't appear to be the case in Russia, as far as I am aware.

Of course, it's a line of work that is heavily stigmatised; does that mean they cannot, by definition, be decent people? Surely it's better than mugging the elderly, burglary, selling drugs etc.

It's too easy to judge people as being not 'right/correct/proper/moral' in some way - and I'm just as guilty as anyone. But now I try harder not to.

There are many sincere and decent women in the former Soviet Union.

I have heard about these stories and I have even read about some specific women who had no other choice but to sell their body.

There are many women, while low paid, who would not resort to prostitution.

I agree with Ade and I would not judge these women considering their circumstances.

There are also women who look for a sponsor or a boyfriend for "financial support"...... that could involve many things.....

But still, I understand. They don't have the help that we have here in Western countries and many of these women have a child/children.

They do the best they can with what they have. I respect them because they could abandon their children if they chose to but instead, despite the difficulty, they endure and take care of their child.

That is something for which they should be commended. I know in many situations the childs father is not present. These men (not all of them but enough of them) have absolutely no contact with their child, don't help financially, etc.

These women are left to do it all - ALONE.

I'd rather have a sincere woman who cares about her family and children than one that seems perfect but doesn't really care.

But let me ask you this question, if I may, what if you fell in love with a woman and her past was "tainted"?

What if she TRULY loved YOU....
Sure, there are some serious matters involved (possibly sexually transmitted diseases, etc) but do you simply abandon her because she told you the truth?

What I am trying say is that I have met many women HERE that were not honest about their past (not all women here but there are dishonest people everywhere). Their intentions were not good by any means and they DID lie about their past.

You could meet a serious woman who is honest about her self and her past may not be perfect BUT she is HONEST with you about it....

OR

You could meet someone who hides everything from you and tries to present themself as being perfect....

I appreciate honesty and I would not dump ("throw" as the Russians say) a good woman (for being honest)..... but I can understand a woman with good intentions being afraid of admitting to her past, if she truly loves a man and is afraid to lose him.

Nothing is perfect and perhaps it is not always best to judge a woman.

Perhaps if we had to live their lives we might think differently!
