Reminds me of this other real cowboy

(He "performs" in Times Square in New York, but I saw him one day in front of the Kodak Theater in downtown Hollywood.)

I am starting to get a complex here! J/K Seriously though I am always amazed when "cowboy" is used as a negative term. I grew up and live in an area where the term "cowboy" is almost iconic. Some of the less informed refer to me as a Cowboy but I am just a country boy. There are those that would get highly offended by including me in that exclusive club. I ,however do wear wranglers the boots and of course the buckle. (no my name is not on the back of it.) I mention this because when I came back to the area after being away for 6 years everyone always thought I dressed funny so I succumed to peer presure and went back to the wranglers. I guess my point was, before I got to rambling, I know the real meaning of cowboy and what they call in this area a "real cowboy" but what is it that most of the world dislikes about a "cowboy"?

Hi Rick,

Of course, being an American cowboy is not a bad thing.

Yes, the American cowboy is an icon. A true cowboy has inner strength, pride, has respect for nature, stands up for what is right, and other positive qualities.

(I enjoy wearing cowboy boots myself sometimes).

This thread is just having a little fun with GW...

I do think, however, some people around the world do associate something negative with George W and his cowboy image, perhaps a perspective that he seems to go it alone without considering others. But since this is a light-hearted humor thread, if anyone wants to continue this topic further let's talk about this in a non-humor section.

Poking fun at GW should not be taken as an insult to cowboys. I Have known many real cowboys and NONE of them grew up as spoiled rich kids in Maine.

The term Cowboy has a totally diferent meaning to what the original Cowboys were. Most people today see the term Cowboy as the frontier man who herded cattle on the praire ect. The first "Cowboys" were actually gunslingers and thugs hired by Ranchers to protect or should i say advance their interests and very few actually had anything to do with cows. They were distinguished by different coloured bandannas tied around their legs or necks....depending on which rancher they worked for.

What we all see as the original term for cowboy was better descibed as a cow hand or ranch hand.

I'll let you decided which one best describes Dubya

A real cowboy takes his hat off indoors (this usually eliminates all the posers), holds doors open for ladies, and here is the big one and not often seen nowadays--he will pull onto the shoulder to let you pass. Ten years ago Texas was full of real cowboys...now Texas is full of bushes..... OMG did I just say that!!
