Naming the FSU

The FSU is a new economy and I guess has been going through a restructure for about 15 years or so. During time of growth and rebuiilding I suppose it is important to remember the roots in which it came from helping one understand the mindset of the people. The FSU will have to at some point rid itself of its moniker. We don't call ourselves the FEC (Former English Colonies) but I'm sure for some time in the late 1700s the term or something similar was out there. I'm just curious as to when you think this might happen for FSU?

People in the FSU don't use this term. "FSU" is a pure western creation.

We call former USSR the Community of Independent States (CIS). Or the Post-Soviet Area.

In Germanic languages its called SNG.

However I understand there is a difference. Sovjet consists of 15 now indenpendance states.

But Russia has a 'commenwealt' with Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakstan. The commenwealt is about science, economics and general co-operation.
