Hi,

Hopefully my question(s) will not be too obscure, I am looking to know what the english equivalent of the following two words are, if a native Russian read the following:

ÏÐÎÃÐÅÑÑ ÝÍÅÐÃÈß

Could a company be named that and would it make sense to a Russian? What I mean is westerners like to put any two foreign words together and think it makes sense. Also, how do you type ÏÐÎÃÐÅÑÑ ÝÍÅÐÃÈß using english letters only?

Thank you

Sounds like the name of a power company:

PROGRESS ENERGY

PROGRESS ENERGIYA

In Russian it would probably be hyphenated.

Êîìïàíèÿ «ÏÐÎÃÐÅÑÑ-ÝÍÅÐÃÈß»

What exactly are you trying to say in English?

Does anyone know why Lev chose to call himself Leon Trotsky? Is this a straight translation from his Jewish name? Is it a name with a political statement? Was he trying to obscure his Jewish roots?

Off hand, the name appears to translate "Lion Trotting." Is this correct? Maybe a person knowledgeable in Russian history could solve this mystery.
