Question about Yahoo Personals and scammers.

I am curious about why I keep getting contacted about every 2 weeks buy women from Russia, some with a profile and some without,I am pretty sure most of them are scammers, but they might not all be,what are your thoughts on this out there?
I have e-mailed a few of them, one is a scammer, keeps mentioning a agency, what is the story behind that,I don't think a travel agency is going to help a woman get tickets to meet someone she has never met.
Another question is how do they get on Yahoo Personals when you have to join with a credit card?
I appreicate any information you can give me,good luck! I am happy to say I have met a woman from Moscow, how is real and dosen't start talking about romance right off the bat,she is about the only one so far!

Yahoo personals are a central clearinghouse for RW scammers. I've never had a legitimate contact from there (where the woman initiated contact).

Just keep your eyes and mind open, no matter where you find her or their profiles :-) SO far, I have no luck and all I encounter are scammers. The most recent one took me more than 3 months to see through and it is through her error that this happens (she started sending me her duplicates of email, including re-sending me her so-called 'latest' pics that don't look like her at all!) Check to see if they also ask you alot of personal questions abt your life, family, friends etc. which is generally a good sign. Most scammers don't bother abt this.

Don't get me wrong, I believe there are sincere souls out there but whatever your first cyber-meeting place, never let your guard down.

Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to mention that when I was in Houston a couple of weeks ago, my cousin told me that he had met a Russian woman on Yahoo Personals, and that he was writing some emails to her.

She wanted him to either visit him in the U.S., or meet in some third country.

He asked for my advice, and of course, I told him what to write her: That he wanted to meet her in her town, and that he wanted to speak on the phone, and to send him her mailing address so that he could perhaps send her a package

After about 4 emails where "she" (or he it's hard to know for sure) didn't directly answer all of his questions, and said that she did not have a phone, and ignored his (my ) request for a mailing address.

She said that she would call him, but she never did.

However, in every email, she expressed how she could not sleep because she is thinking of him, etc., blah-blah-blah

But, we just kept asking her in emails that he wanted to see her in HER country.

I just called him a couple of days ago, and "she" hasn't written him for 3 weeks.

I guess she CAN sleep at night without thinking of him

Be careful, never send money to someone you have not met, speak on the phone, ask for a mailing address and send a package.

P.S... I would avoid Yahoo personals. I would rather deal with a reputable agency where at least some person meets these ladies and where there is some responsibility down the Marriage Agency chain of command.

I just created a listing for Yahoo Personals in the "Russian User Reviews" section here:

If you have had experiences with Russian women on Yahoo personals, then please post your reviews there.

Thanks,

Khashyar

I was nearly scammed until I joined this site, now I have a young attractive "woman " writing to me with a yahoo addy, I know in my gut she is a scammer and when I ask specific questions they aren't answered, that is why I ask, I go with the thought that all russian women who start writing to me for no reason is a scammer until they prove themselves different, keep asking questions and take it all with a pinch of salt to begin with.Yes there are genuine women out there and they are looking, but be vigilant and keep checking, afterall it's your money and self confidence that will suffer. I will not be conned again by them and hope that none of you are too.

Back in April when I was using the personal sites,on matchdoctor.com I contacted a lovely Swedish lady who claimed to be from Gothenburg,Sweden, she was living in Kazan,Russia working as a teacher at the university there.Isn't Kazan a hotbed for scammers.
This girl was good, she called me on the phone a few times,a very beautiful Swedish accent!
She started asking me to help her cousin who was working in real estate in Kazan to transfer money from his bank in America, apparently she claimed he had worked there and had money in a American bank. She asked for my bank routing number and bank account number. You would be stupid to do this!
And some people think only Russian woman use the internet to scam!

I know what you mean, I had an African girl telling me she had 9,000,000 usd, was orphaned and wanted me to go there, sort out her money, get her a passport for England, sort out her education etc.. I didn't reply. I wasn't being bias with what I said, I've now had 3 russian girls try this, one African, 1 from nigeria who wanted me to go there, and 1 from America who drove a Bently, wanted me to go on a cruise with her and told me she loved me when she hadn't seen a photo of me.Of the 3 russians only 1 has asked for money, 1 didn't bother to carry on writing and the third is writing now and I am waiting for the money aspect to start, but she will be very disappointed.

Also if you ask them what bank they do business with,of course they want to tell you! This Swedish girl still e-mails me about once every 2 weeks.
She really makes no sense. If her cousin had $20,000 stranded in a American bank,he would spend the $700 for the round trip tickets from Gothenburg, hasn't he heard of wonderful travel agencies like Atlantic Fellowship?I willl use them for my visit to Moscow to see my princess Irina.
This girls e-mail address ends in .se which is a Swedish e-mail account. But any scammer from Kazan could register with a Swedish e-mail provider.

Not all women who make first contact are scammers. I am one case in point.

If you just follow the simple rules and keep your head you will always find the truth. Sometimes it's bad but you can also strike it lucky and find the woman of your dreams.

Just go carefully and don't let emotions rule your head

Also you can trace the IP of the e-mail to see where it originates from.

How do you check the IP of the e-mail? I am just curious to see if this person is really a teacher at the Kazan university. She claims to be from Gothenburg,Sweden.
Who knows maybe she is really a teacher at this university. It ends in .se which is a Swedish address. All Russian e-mails are in .ru
Hey GreenBard do you like U2? Bono and The Edge are the man! Actually The Edge is my favorite guitar player ever! Dublin should be might proud of these guys!
I was lucky enough to see both nights of U2's stand at the Meadowlands in New Jersey! Those were the 2 best concerts I have ever seen!!!! U2 was smokin! The second night was the best though.

For checking IP address, look at our previous conversation:

http://www.russianmeetingplace.com/...=&threadid=4544

I found that checking IP address of email is not a rigorous method of checking authenticity though...simply 'cos computers from a cafe MAY be equipped with dynamic IP or cafes may subscribe to international providers.

Hello Greenbarb, I'm hot saying all are scammers, just that I will assume they are until I find out differently, I know there are a lot of genuine people out there but it's finding them after putting up with lots of scammers, they do make you think that they are the only ones trying to make contact, it's a cruel world out there if you are not protected or have a great site like this to help you.
