Knowing they are hospitable people I don't know that this would be acceptable, but:

I am a good cook and since my diet is very limited I wondered about cooking for them! I have some recipes that came from chefs for food I can't eat they most people love. Like a pasta/rice recipe that uses olive oil, portabella mushrooms, chicken, peppers, and lots of pepper. The stuff is delicous!

I am also an excellent baker! I have sold cakes, and have donated several for charity auctions in the past. I once had a cake go for $75. (not bragging)

Well in anycase I thought this could be a way to avoid in unpleasant situations with my dietary problems.

Hi Jason,

I wouldn't worry about it. If you meet a good person, she'll be conscious of your dietary restrictions. I'm sure you can find something to eat there or, if you would like, you can prepare a meal for the girl you're meeting. I'm sure that would be very well appeciated.

I think it would be acceptable to sometimes offer to cook. However, if you are doing ALL of the cooking, it might make people feel a little awkward--like they should be reciprocating somehow. And if you then persistantly refuse to let them cook for you--yes, they could be offended (i.e. they may feel that you doubt they are as capable as you).

As I said before, just be very up front about your dietary restrictions and explain clearly what you can and can't eat. They will try to accomodate. And you could always bake something yummy to add to their meal as a desert.

Fair enough. The baking thing might not be a bad idea at all, if they see I don't eat my own food they will at least know I was not just refusing to eat something they made. If I ever go over there I will make sure people are informed ahead of time.

Time to go to work!

jpierce55, From your posts I have absolutely no idea what your "dietary problems" are.

Just be clearer to your Russian friends than you have been here! Otherwise, it's no big deal. There are vegetarians over there too (for example), so Russians know about that kind of stuff. Good luck! Удачи вам!
