I have been emailing a Ukrainian girl for three months now. We seem to be very like minded, in truth I think we are made for each other. We plan to meet in the next couple of months in Kiev.

Currently we have a good friendship going, maybe it will never be anything more but I hope so. And yes I am positive she is honest, I have encountered 3 scammers so far and easily repelled them.

One thing I am wondering in her emails as of late she has started signing Tan'a instead of Tanya. Does this mean anything?

I am glad I found this forum, now I need to read up.

Do not worry in Russia it is common practice to use "Pet" names instead of the full name sort of like Someone called "Anthony" being called "Tony" for short. Try this site for some of the "Pet Names" for the Formal Russian names.
http://www.meighan.net/alexander/Chapter13.htm

It lists most of the names and you can also hear them being said in Russian.

Tanya and Tan'a is the same - it owuld be written the same with cyrillics characters. But when russian words are written with latinic characters, then different people use different latinic letters' combinations. It seems your Таня prefers to use " 'a" for "я" lately.

For me, the first transliteration that automatically comes to mind is "Tanja".
