I just found these touchscreen language translators on Ebay and bought a couple.

Thought someone might be interested.

It appears these are a used unit with new touch screen. Let us know what you think of it..

Well, if these are used or refurbished, there's no indication of it. New-in-box with all documentation and warranty. It's a great price because the two I got still have the $149 sticker on the back.

HOWEVER, these are almost useless without the earphones, as the tiny speaker isn't going to help you remember correct pronunciation. Best use will be when you just want to remember the words or phrases you already know. 180,000 words and 20,000 phrases categorized and successive-letter searchable. Not bad. The voice is quite good and easily understood, but I can only accurately judge the English, French and Spanish speaker, so take my opinion with a bit of caution.

Haven't tried the database, world time, and calculator or currency conversion features. But then, that's not why I bought 'em.

You got a good deal I would say, even if they are refurbished. I have a little pocket translator. It is little better than a dictionary but smaller to carry around. It came in handy in Moscow and Kiev. Especially the time the taxi driver started to drive off with me and Elena was in her friends apartment building.

jpierce55 thanks for the info but what are these translators you are speaking about? where could I go and take a look at one? Would it be useful for when i am actually trying to speak russian when speaking to my friends?

Yes it could benefit a little, they can translate English to Russian or Russian to English. Sometimes Elena could not think of an English word and translated to me (although she speaks very solid English so this was rare). Don't pay full price, if you close the page after looking at one a screen pops up permitting you to place a bid. Do that, I paid $150 for mine and got software for free with it. The price on the website was $210. They have some really nice looking devices for more if you have the money to spare.

The vocals on the translator suck, but it could have moments of benefit. The phrase "where is the restroom" can come in handy also. Battery life seems lengthy. And over all I say it is worth the cost.
