I have given up on the insanely selfish and spoiled and proud american women. I want to settle down with a russian lady to be my wife and the mother of my children. Can being african american change that?

In a nutshell, yes, you will have a harder time meeting a woman from FSU. Since there is essentialy no people of african decent in Russia, the standard of beauty is very much white skin oriented.. I'm not saying it is impossible, but prepare yourself for a long and bumpy road ahead...

BTW, american women are not that bad. I suggest you look closer.

With such an attitude as that, I should think it will be hard to find a nice woman of any nationality

But that aside (and I do hope you'll think about that), inlove is right. It might be more challenging for a black man than for a white man, but certainly not impossible. Just look at our own beloved searcher--he found a great RW who is now his fiancee

OK, I'm going to go a bit off topic for a minute--but this just popped into my head. I was watching "Bolshaya stirka" the other night (it's a Russian talk show), and the topic was marrying a foreignor. One of the guests came out and starting raving about her American boyfriend from New Hampshire--he's just wonderful, caring, considerate, gives her flowers, takes her out, and of course, she is looking forward to moving into his big house in the US. The guy comes out (he is black), and he says that he has a secret that he has been afraid to tell her, but now he is finally going to reveal it as their relationship is starting to become serious. It turns out that he is not from New Hampshire at all, but from Guinea Bissau. The look on her face was priceless

Anyway, sorry about that tangent. But, yes, there are some RW who may not be interested in a black man, but there are also many who do not care about the color of a person's skin. So it is possible. Ask searcher about his experiences--he could probably give you some first hand advice.

Walking through Kiev, I thought it was nice to see mixed couples (though it was comparatively rare.) I'm predominantly Chinese and my fiancee is Ukrainian (with a bit of Georgian and Greek) so I notice these things. Last summer I saw more than a few African descent men (but not necessarily American) with Ukrainian women. Interestingly enough, I don't think I ever encountered an Asian man with a Ukrainian woman in Kiev (except when I looked in the mirror!

I want a women who love me for me. And not for a "host" for the things they want or tasks they want done. I find it hard to love a parasitic,shallow,using,self-serving,dumb,whorish american women.Can I ask an AW what membrane theory is? No. They probably think I am talking about their privates or something.Thats not the bad thing. Most people don't know what membrane theory is. Ok so thats not a crime. but these AW don't even care about stuff that doesn't involve them.sorry not for me.

No seriously, not having a job , not having an education and being broke will definitely reduce your chances with RW. If a RW is seriously considering a move to the USA she will really want to know what kind of life you can offer her irrespective of whether you are black or white. One of the questions I was often asked was " Do you live in a flat or a detached house " ? Do I live in a city or in the country ? "What is my job ?
RW are very like women in many countries - most women want security when/ if they marry - I think you know this .

Do you mean that there are Russian talk shows like Jerry Springer? Shows where they discuss useless nonsense and everyone’s dirty laundry (i.e., personal problems).

Not only are there Jerry Springer type shows but in the Russian version of Big Brother, (Za Steklom) they show the participants in varying states of undress and varying states of sexual acts.

Which brings me to another subject that is off topic for this thread but: i wonder where all the American guys get the idea that ALL Russian women are shy and timid? HMMMM

OK, in regards to being a Black male looking for a Russian woman. I think perhaps it may be a bit harder but not impossible.

There are women there who are interested. There seemed to be a few in Omsk. I remember so comments from women on womens day and some reactions from women while I was in the mall.

I mention that because there are NO Black/African people in Omsk or in many parts of Russia. Yet, people there (despite the reputation or stereotypes) were very nice and open minded.

I only met one group of teens that displayed any racist views.

Most people were astonished that I was there and i was the first Black person many of them had EVER seen.

Some old women almost fell over trying to see me and I remember one time walking with Andrei and a man was just shocked to see me. He was singing and suddenly his tone changed.

Andrei said he said something like "Oh my god! A Black person!"

I'm not claiming to be the "master"of women but there seemed to be some interest, its worth a try.

If I remember Lena wrote an article about this here it is.

It seems that there are quite a few interested women. All I can say is keep looking.

And I would also heed some of Jill's advice. She has lived in the former Soviet Union and know volumes about life there - culture, men, women, etc...

Absolutely! Bolshaya stirka is actually one of the more, uh, tamer ones. There's also a very popular one called "Okna" ("Windows") which is all about scandal and could rival ANY Jerry Springer show.

Yes, and there's Survivor (called "Poslednii geroi" or "Last hero") and Fear Factor ("Faktor strakha"), and there are silly game shows and even something along the lines of American Idol ("Fabrika zvezd" or "Star Factory").

But to top it off, there are even Russian tele-evangelists now

Well, unfortunately, there are also greedy, insane, shallow, materialistic, and mean FSU women. You say that you have "researched" them--but how many do you actually know? I know very, very many as I have lived in the FSU for the past ten years or so and can tell you with complete assurance that Russian women come in just as much variety as American women and, once you get to know them, you will begin to realize that the differences are not nearly as great as you assumed. There are good ones and bad ones, proud and humble, rich and poor, intelligent and not so intelligent, materialistic and spritual. On and on. They are from a different country, not a different planet. And many of them do not like men with chips on their shoulders.

In the "off topic" that I posted, why do you think the woman was really so upset when she found out that her boyfriend was from Africa and not the US? He's still the same caring and considerate guy after all. He just no longer has the big house in New Hampshire that he had promised her.

OK, I'm going off topic again. There's another show on TV called KVN--it's a team comedy competition--the humor is somewhat along the lines of Saturday Night Live. One of the teams is called RUDN (Russian University of Frienship of the Peoples). The members of the team are a group of students studying at this mutinational and multicultural university--and several of the members are Arfican. Anyway, they were doing this one sketch where all of them were in an airport getting ready to go home to their respective countries, saying good bye to each other, etc. Suddenly a group of Russian women comes running up to them and screeches "Oh my God, guys, can we take a picture of your funny Negroes?" They answer "sure, ladies" at which point Andrew jumps out of a closed suitcase, waves his hand, and gives a big toothy grin much to the delight of the women who snap away at their cameras.

I'm sure similar things have really happened to them in Russia--it's good that they can keep a sense of humor about it.

I would like to know if these types of shows were available before Russia/USSR made its descent into capitalism. I am perplexed as to why the Russians would want to imitate some of the immoral behavior of the West.

I have never thought of all Russian women as being shy/timid. However, I’ve not been fortunate enough to date any Russian women to know anything about this.

No, for the most part these shows have just started appearing in the last few years. But they are IMMENSELY popular

If this television show was for real and not just a put-on for the audience’s amusement, I would say that this reinforces the fact that all Russian women need to have a background check done on their husband-to-be that is from another country.

searcher--- this reminds me of an anecdote from the book "Open Lands" by Mark Taplin (sic?).

Albert Lucie, a jazz musician, toured the USSR in the 30's and decided to surrender his US citizenship to become a Soviet citizen. Stalin had him arrested the day after he received his new status and shipped him to a gulag in Vorkuta. Lucie was treated generously; his own living space, his own ration of coal, lots of food.

Lucie was a HIT with the women in the camp. I infer he slept with most of them, including an NKVD officer. Once word of that indiscretion got around Berria made sure he was transferred from the camp band to mining duty, and he died about 6 months later.

The point is: Lucie was a novelty to the RW... AND THEY LOVED HIM (literally)!

about these american style talk shows/realityshows/fear fatcor types....i really can't believe they get such high ratings - ANYWHERE!!! it's just garbage, but so is crap like "Life According to Jim" and those lowest common denominator sitcoms...now that the latest american TV crap is being imitated in far, far away countries, i can only say what my friend and i always cry out when we hear and read this kind of stuff.....

Pin Boy, let's face it, this reality TV craze came from Europe. "Big Brother" existed on German TV way before it showed up in America.. You are amazed that they can find the audience everywhere around the globe? Of course they can, there are always people who are interested to watch this crap..
