And Americans dislike the French. One example look at the money France is losing on their products exported from France. In the city where I live(Conservative) most liquor stores have pulled French products from their shelfs. We use to have four French run restaurants and now it down to two.

I don't know why the link didn't work but it's in today's NY Times online.

It was meant to be a lighthearted article about why French women are thinner, dress better, etc., not about U.S. - French political relations.

Yes it was but the relations between the US and France is so strained and that the US media has promoted anti French sentiment for so long that any US/France topics will probably turn out to be a political talk. Just my two cents.

It's kind of hard to separate the topic of relations between any two nationalities without touching on the political aspect of it all ... intentionally or unintentionally.

Anyhow, I come from a country (Poland) that used to be very Francophile (politically !) before France left Poland to die in September of 1939. My dad hates the French for having screwed the Poles both in 1939 and under Napoleon as well, so you can always expect to hear tirades on how Napoleon cheated and exploited the Poles. My mom, on the other hand, is always complains about how red and liberal France is now and that it was once "the finest daughter of the Church", while my dad calls France the "red whore" (czerwona kurwa).

I find myself much more neutral. I don't love the French, but I don't hate them either. It's only the Germans that I can truly, honestly and without any sugar-coating say that I hate with a passion, and I have no remorse about it whatsoever .

But I'm not surprised that a lot of Americans hate France. This sort of sick Francophobia that we have witnessed in the United States is an Anglo-Saxon Protestant kind of thing. The Brits used to hate France with a passion too ... until the Germans built a fleet and threatened them everywhere where the Brits were hitherto the masters.

Vyesna--- that's great--- but I can't resist a wisecrack here:

Are French women shaving their underarms more frequently these days?

Any woman with more hair in her armpits than mine is a turnoff--- SORRY (((--- but THAT is something I can't handle!

lol

No, no,no you're all wrong, wrong, wrong. Everyone knows that Yugoslavian women are the best ! They have the thick, curvacious bodies that northern European women lack and in addition to that wear the most revealing clothing in Europe.

Pawel, you hate too much my friend. Please don't stay in touch with your Polish roots by hanging on to the conflicts and hatreds of the past. By all means remember the evils of Nazism and the ambitions of Napoleon but don't punish the sons for the sins of their fathers. There's nothing wrong with a modern German. My own grandfather hated Germans. He had to serve first in Aden and then in China whilst the Luftwaffe were bombing his family at home. My other grandfather used to say "never trust a froggie" because of French collaboration in WW2. Their views were born from their own experience but its not our experience and these conflicts are now many years passed. If you don't let them go then you'll have more sad places like the Middle East and Northern Ireland. Nobody wants that do they? You can forgive without forgetting.

Posted by: Pawel_PL.USA

Sorry buddy, but I do not intend to forgive. "Never Forget !!!"

Posted by: lechef

How many gears does a French tank have?

Six, one forward and five for reverse..

Posted by: alenika

<<< hates nobody lol
Pawel if you hate Germans so much then start a war
Maybe you'll punish them finally - all of them whom you hate.
Then they'll punish you

Posted by: Pawel_PL.USA

Alenika, that's what I'm saying. Why can't Bush just bomb the hell out of Germany like the US Airforce and RAF did in Dresden ? I believe the Germans have to be leveled from time to time, at equal intervals, or else they begin to resurrect themselves all over again and create a threat to European and world peace - their forte.

What be difference between aggression of Germany then and aggression of US?

Pawel maybe you could use some of the wisdom of the Dali Lama for your self being with the hatred that seems if not now then later could consume you. I agree that the Dali Lama way of politics will not work as this is a world of the strong survive.

Posted by: Pawel_PL.USA

Lechef, I'm glad you can approach the issue of Polish-German relations in such a conciliatory way. I wish I could too, but unfortunately all that the Germans, as our neighbors, have brought us was tragedy, ruin, murder, rape, plunder, genocide, conquest and all the things associated with those words. Ever since Polish and German borders touched in the 10th century those guys have been attempting to invade, conquer, enslave and exterminate us. Hitler's Generalplan Ost was not anything really new in German history, it was such its most extreme but natural outgrowth.

I understand that as an American you might not understand that experience, but history speaks for itself and I (and my countrymen) would rather have Mexico and Canada as our neighbors any day. So for now, I preffer to hate them because I believe that hatred is the only appropriate attitude towards your worst enemies that attempted not only to conquer and enslave you but also to exterminate you.

So would you hate an American who's great great grandaddy immagrated from Germany in 1849?

Pawel, can you please let me know a few days before the bombing starts? I have friends in Magdeburg who are missionaries, friends in Munich, and a daughter in Stuttgart. In fact I was in Stuttgart in February, and had a great time with so many amazing people that I would like to give them advance notice to leave the country also.

I love Germany! Maybe I can contribute a little input of some really cool places over there that our B52's should just pass over and look the other way. Berlin is an amazing city. Maybe we can just pick on Koln.

Cheb

PS: Do they get to leave before the bombing.......

OK, Ok, I know I am the freak here...but...I think French women are incredibly sexy. And I absolutely love ladies that are completely natural. American ladies hold to the doctrine of "shave it all" , "modify it all through surgery", and "throw a couple of big ol' silicon bags in there to make me feel better about myself". I luv 'em just the way God made 'em: Au Natural!!!

Cheb

PS: It's not called a "happy trail" for nothing.

Posted by: BradIL

Cheburashka: Finally those eccentricities float to the surface!

Alright... if French women won't shave their hairy armpits for me... will you shave your hairy armpits for me? You- happy trail devil- you!

Posted by: Cheburashka

Do you have a weedeater Brad? I'll need one if I am going to comply with your request. See my current pic below

That Valentine has to be from 'C-block" in some penitentiary! WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?

Posted by: Michel.S

I wonder where you get the idea that French women don't shave their legs/armpits ?

Anyway, made in France :

Laetitia doesn't count. She was trained to shave by Victoria's Secrets from the age of 15.
