There is a lot of talk on this board about scammers who try to get transporattion or visa money and then scram. What about the more devasting scammers---the ones that marry you and a year and a day divorce and go for half your dough? I dont see any talk about that and outside of this board, these are the kind of scammers that I have heard are out there.

Do you mean RW or just in general? I suppose it could happen with someone of any nationality. There has been some discussion about this on the board--specifically, the issue of pre-nuptual agreements (which seem to be very full of loopholes and not too effective in these cases).

My personal opinion is that the best way to prevent this from happening to only marry someone you know VERY well. Sure, that's still not a 100% guarantee, but it's better than taking the risk of marrying a relative stranger (which happens quite frequently).

But there are all kinds of scammers--such as the the ones who divorce you after two years (the length of time needed to get a permanent green card), and (more rare, fortunately) the ones who accuse you of DV so that they can leave you right away and still be allowed to stay in the country.

In my opinion, all of these scammers are only a VERY SMALL minority of RW. But they are out there...

And then you have the scammer (an AW) who wanted a child, got married to someone that had some money.. not rich, but some.. got pregnant, got divorced, had the baby and WON child support..

She clearly stated that all she wanted was someone to pay for child support after the divorce....

and no, it was not me but someone I heard about at work

Move to Denmark. Here it takes 7 years before they can get a permanent residence permit as far as I remember.
